Originally from Wesel, Germany, Tim Gawert grew up steeped in music. He started playing the drum set around the age of 5 and spent his early teen summers on tour with his stepfather Bertram Engel-a prominent German rock drummer, musician, songwriter, and producer.
After a hiatus in his late teens, Tim returned to music in his early 20s. Since then he has been playing in bands, for artists, and as a session musician across the Southeastern United States.
As a musician, Tim has performed with former lead singer of The Marvelettes, Traci Robinson, has toured with a band led by former Musical Director of Bill Pinkney's Original Drifters, and, most recently, toured with the legendary R&B/Soul group The Drifters.
Tim currently lives in Charlotte, NC and is available for Sessions, Gigs, and Tours.

The Wanton Song - Led Zeppelin (Drum Cover by Tim Gawert)

The Wanton Song…second song on the last side of Zep’s 1975 double LP “Physical Graffiti.” Such a cool song featuring what I think is one of Bonzo’s heaviest and funkiest grooves.
The bass drum pattern is much less busy than I used to think and I think I’m playing it relatively accurately here. Bonzo changed it up a bit throughout the song, so some bars it is a bit busier than others, but I think it is generally a single bass drum stroke in the latter part of the bar and not a double, as I used to think.

Am I the only one who notice that the beater misses the bass drum falam slam dot? BTW - great cover :D

@@Marjan543 if you look carefully you can see that there are actually two patches on the bass drum, one of which the beater is hitting.

I’m pretty sure this was two SM57s on the snare drum (top and bottom) and two SM57s on the bass drum (batter and reso side).
