Let's see if we can get the handlebars feeling not so rigid with replacement of the isolators. Also, has the ECU been tuned before? I have a suspicion it has not since Tupperware seems to die every time I stop.

    The fact that there was fluid pressure trapped when you weren't applying the lever, indicates to me that fluid can't easily return to the master cylinder. So if this problem re-occurs, you might check that.

    • @automotivevillainy
      @automotivevillainy 13 днів тому

      That's my guess too. I wanted to start with the slave cylinder because rebuilding that's only 20 bucks lol. Next I'm doing the master, it's about 50% better.

      Yep it worked well! I was able to maintain 60 and 65 even through the hills. Over a few steep hills we dropped to 55. The torque seemed to be in a good zone at 55 for climbing, and first gear was actually useful 😀. Make sure to get the puller if you want to change out.

    Glad you got her, I believe she's in good hands. I use ZDDP additive in all my engines, but am careful to use the specified amount. You can even have too much of zinc additive. There are some good videos on the usage of oil additives.

    • @automotivevillainy
      @automotivevillainy 2 місяці тому

      I hope so too! Luckily most of the E-H community is super great with questions. I wasn't there when Jamie did all the 5 flushes. I talked to him a lot and read his notes. I'm paraphrasing here but he would drain the oil, clean the clutch plates for the first two changes ( for the other three he used new plates). Then wipe out all the oil, re-assemble new oil and filter, than run it on the dino. it would start to slip very soon after. I was there for the last two. Also, I've know lots of people that use ZDDP mainly in Autocross and track cars. it's in a lot of performance engine "cocktails".

  • @DonkeyHotie
    @DonkeyHotie 2 місяці тому

    Leave that thing alone. Drain the oil out of both drain plugs and change it. Maybe twice. If the plates still slip, change the plates. If you take that motor out and apart and the cylinder head studs will pull. You'll be looking for a machine shop to time sert them. No, you can't helicoil them. Even in a milling machine, the timeserts can go in wrong. You'll also need the cylinder stud kit after that. Don't make this out to be something it's not. There is no hidden oil in that engine. If you absolutely believe there is, pull the primary cover and pull the transmission cassette. You can put your finger out the other side of the engine through the output shaft bearing. The tiny amount of oil that might not make it out during a standard oil change is over in the primary case and that's because the bike isn't upright. If it's on a lift and upright, all the oil comes out.

    I have saddlebags on my 2006 Sportster 1200L with brackets that look just like that. They are called Easy Brackets, the main part of the bracket attaches to the bag, just two posts remain on the bike. The slip into place, and lock and unlock with a key. I do love the fact that they are loaded with chrome. Seems like all new bikes are almost completely flat black. I have added a lot of chrome to my older Harleys, and had one of them repainted a brighter color.

    I'm 64, and followed the development of this bike and the company from the beginning, mostly through motorcycle magazines. I never considered buying one, because they were out of my price range. I was considering a new Victory V92C, but they had some issues, and I decided to wait a couple years till they got things worked out. But that never happened. They dropped the V92C, and came out with the Vegas, and I lost all interest at that point. I bought my first Harley in 2003, a 1989 FXRS Low Rider. I have seen Excelsior Hendersons come up for sale from time to time, and a couple of months ago, I had a chance to buy #1468, for $9600. I went and looked at it, it was in beautiful condition, with 3600 miles on it. In the end I decided against it. I had already researched its issues, and decided that for someone of my age, it was better to have a bike that I could just ride. I've owned 47 bikes in my life, and currently have 5, three Harleys and two Japanese bikes. I would have had to get rid of one of those to make room for another one. As far as I know, this bike is still for sale, on the Phoenix Craigslist, if anyone is interested.
