Here it is, back on track again with the Mini Challenge Clubsport.
With Donington being Emma's favourite track we were excited for this round.
But unfortunately the weekend did not go our way at all.
Hopefully we will find some luck at the next round

Wow!
Seriously tempted to give the Mini Challenge a go if I can get a suitable car for saving and preparing. Looks great fun. Well aware of how harsh motorsport can be, my eldest karts and I grew up in the motorsport world.
@@SavingMinis Would highly recommend it, it’s a great championship, really friendly paddock atmosphere too.
Did you use a pneumatic wrench once (or more times..) on the wheelbolts? It might cause a crack which can lead what you have experienced now... I'm a technical scrutineer for a schools kart challenge and we forbid the students to use pneumatic tools on wheelbolts for that reason.
@@RenselProjects I use a battery impact gun to buzz the nuts on and off. But always turn down the power. I’ll inspect the rest of the studs when I take them off and replace for new.
Was quite a warm day indeed. That was me at Coppice that offered the bottle of water. Can’t make it to Croft, but hopefully catch up next season. - Adam
@@blinnet thanks so much, was seriously appreciated!
I feel your pain, I was racing this weekend in the heat! It's no fun
If it wasn't for bad luck, you guys would have no luck! Gutted for you. I will see you at Croft as I'm down for marshaling it. Hopefully I can be a good luck charm 😂
@@MyRunningJourney thanks we need it!
Hey Steven, do you ever plan to get racing yourself again? I used to enjoy your shared drives in the 750 club.
@@markroux3074 yeah that might be what we do more of next year. Looking at options but definitely want to get back into endurance/shared drives.

great content guys thx. Im looking for a R53 thanks to your videos.
Really good to hear a ‘buyers’ review that’ll be living with the car. What breed of dog do you have?
Thanks, we’ve got a chocolate Labrador
Great, we’ve got a Collie and it looked like he’d fit fine but reassuring to know! How’ve they coped with the boot lip? I’m wondering if it’s worth getting an extra bed/large cushion so it’s not such a drop on the inside. Thanks for that.
@@richraymond5037 There’s not much of a drop inside, I didn’t spec the cargo pack so our boot floor isn’t raised up, so the dog has more room. We put a flat bed in the back for him and he’s comfy enough.
@@WolftraxRacing Perfect! Thank you.
I forgot to say I liked and subscribed for some Mini content as I traded my Mini hatch JCW for my EV.
Thanks, appreciate it. It’s mostly Mini / racing content on here, but couldn’t resist a wee car review when we got the EV
We find the charging infrastructure really good in our wee country of Scotland. There is a big EV charging station in Perth a smaller one in Dundee and numerous chargers around Aberdeen. We normally stop at Blairgowrie when we do the Snow Road over to Tarland & Banchory. When we go to Findhorn we stop in Perth or Pitlochry then Elgin. When we go to the borders we stop at Innerleithan or Moffat so maybe we are lucky in that where we go regularly we are well covered. I too am a Petrol Head but the performance of mine with AWD and 400 ps and air suspension and 325 watt surround sound with thirteen speakers, pan roof and 22" rims certainly makes up for the lack of engine & exhaust. If we can get over the drop in value of electric cars over the last eighteen months they are brilliant. We really mainly use ours for commuting and within a 200 mile round trip for home charging and not for trips home to Aberdeenshire in the snow and ice that it was bought for due to the range limitations. I think I would buy a PHEV the next time we are in the market for a car.
We mostly charge at home or work as it’s mostly used for commuting but on longer trips to Glasgow or Edinburgh I’ve used the fast chargers in Dundee and they’re great with a place for a coffee next door. Will soon be trying out Edinburgh airports park and charge facility when taking a flight soon too.
Which EV do you have with 400ps AWD and all them speaker it carnt be he born. Cheers
Listing out specs like that…be careful, there’s always better. My Hyundai 5N for example, bought as a second car for work and small commutes, it complements my 1.5 Mk 8.5 GTE quite nicely.
I was gonna say! I was sliiiiightly suspicious you did a gearbox replaced in 9 is minutes lol. Are you going for the getrag 6 speed as your next- next... box? Its pretty bullet proof as is and is pretty drop in to replace. Cheap as Chips as well! I believe it would Just fit you in with the regs for the clubsports if you did. They work like a dream with a quaife LSD. Once again, love the work, keep at it!
We already use a Getrag 6 speed, its the BKD gearbox we have. However The facelift BKE & BKL 6speed gearboxes have slightly shorter ratios. So it is a BKL we are swapping to and we will be using our Gripper LSD in it.
Oh thats fantastic! I might wanna do the same on mine then. With the Quaife diff I have in the current one, the BKL box might make it slightly quicker, but Im worried that ill loose the bite in 2nd that gets me round the tighter corners faster.
I think 1st and 2nd are very much the same, the big difference seems to be from 3rd onwards.
It looks as if Im gonna have to look at these ratios. do you know where those ratios are found? With a little comparison it might be ideal. its just stronger gears I assume? which is good news for me, the open class series for clubsport might mean this poor car is going to be hurtled either to a podium or immediate obliteration LOL
Love these type of videos, you should do ‘how to videos’ for setting up for the track, for example Geo… also, why do you use a pre fl Gearbox out of interest? My geo I have on my mini is -2.25 with 0.1 toe & -1.5 rear with 0.1 toe
Thank you. In the future if/when I get more time I'd like to do proper "how to" videos. The only reason we use a pre FL gearbox is because that is what the original engine came with. I have since picked up 2 spare engines but they also had pre FL gearboxes on them. I knew the FL had shorter ratios but it wasn't until I drove one I realised how big a difference it made. Our Geo setup changes from round to round depending on how Emma feels. But as I base line I start with this: Front -3.5 with 2mm toe out Rear -3.0 with 1mm toe in

Io pure ce l'ho nel gioco sono belle macchine queste 🚗🔥🔥🔥🔥👌
I've got a 58kwh Born V3 (not e-boost), had it for 18 months (in Red 😁) - came from a mk7 Golf GTi. I really like it, it's quite quick, but it's definitely not a GTi 😂. I agree with you EVs have their limitations - THEY ARE ABSOLUTELY NOT FOR EVERYONE 😂. The weather seriously affects range, my consumption has been ~3 m/kwh during the winter and ~4+ in summer - but with cheap overnight electricity that's still ~2p per mile. But, it did cost ~£900 to have a home charger installed.
Wow, I really am going bald. Time to shave it all off and get it over with 🤣🤣 Was great fun, hope you come back soon!
🤣🤣🤣 Steven says embrace the lack of follicles, it doesn’t hurt. Can’t wait to come back with cars again next time
The other car blocked super aggressively. Was an intimidation block. Came way off their line. Good on you
its called the racing line and he probably wasn't expecting a car thats 2 car lengths away to make a last second late lunge
I don't think either of you were fully at fault, it's just luck of the timing. You saw a gap and tried to take the inside. Other driver was already preparing to go into the apex. Then bam.
i agree but that lunge was kinda too late even with bigger brakes your not covering that less of a distance on the brakes and even if the move was successful she would've gone too deep into the corner to maintain the position, i am making this judgement based off of her skill and experience
Вы ездите на мини р53?
Mini R53, yes
I watch the Btc and i enjoy watching mini challenge it's great all the same cars just down to the set up and the driver but you must have a good job to even to afford to do that as any car racing is not cheap my family used to do the autograss raceing if you have heard of that and was down to money why we gave it up but i do wish you good luck with it mate 👍
Check the wishbone too though, small bends aren’t easy to spot with it though. Run a straight edge along a known good one, then compare.
….. and for cost/peace of mind…. New bearing, bottom BJ and track rod. They are all pretty cheap.
Cheers, the wishbone’s been changed already at the track, was banana bendy 🤣
@@TrackScotlandalso all changed already at the track 😎
To confirm, it is the carrier that’s bent. They are very easy to bend, and the tell tale is as you pointed out. The camber change/wheel tight to strut and the small marks on the inner middle edge (rust flakes in the vid) 100%
Just wanted to say that I love what you are doing with the Mini Challenge Clubsport car. Documenting all of this is a great resource for me while I modify my own mini to be season legal. Hopefully in a few seasons time I'll be seeing you on track! Keep at the good work <3
Think that was a poor decision looked like moving within a braking zone to me
Did I understand it right, did you also change the intercooler for a airtec one?. Because then comparing the intake temps before and after the TPE manifold would be like comparing apples to oranges
Yes, we swapped the Forge intercooler for the Airtec one as the Airtec one is now a mandatory part for our championship. However, we don’t have the budget to swap one part at a time then test each one individually to be 100% scientifically accurate about it. Both are aftermarket intercoolers of very similar design, therefore we wouldn’t expect to see a 30c + drop in intake temperatures between the two intercoolers.
Looked like a racing incident, so a wee bit unlucky. Well done getting the car out for race 3.
Not the results you wanted, Cannot wait until Combe. Thankyou for using my work! Can’t wait to cover you for this season!
You say I went for a Gap realy nothing but experience There ....Good luck but have a good look 👍 nooo place in that corner
That was really bad luck to get the points on your license. I personally think they were a bit harsh on you there. I’ve watched the incident over an over a few times and there wasn’t a lot you could’ve done. There’s a gap to your right, you positioned yourself in it unfortunately the two cars in front of the one you had a coming together with were a little slow, the car in front would’ve hit them if they didn’t come across the track in your direction. At that moment you became a passenger of what unfolded next. To me this is a racing incident. Well done for getting the car back up and running though for race three. Good luck for the next race, I hope the racing gods will be on your side next time out.
Great video guys. I’ve been watching it over and over again to learn the track ahead of my upcoming trackday there. I hope I have as much fun as you two did
Enjoy it, it’s an awesome track, I hope you get decent weather
Me and Alana have just watched this on the "big telly". It was great to meet you Steven and hopefully we will bump into the both of you at another round in the future. 😁 Alana is very happy that her bobble from her hat made it into your video. 😂 The car looked amazing and sounded incredible too. 👌 It was great to see all the Minis putting on a great show all day for us spectators. 😀 - Scott
Was nice to meet you both too, hopefully we will see you again at another round. Thanks again for the footage 👌🏻
So you said you were keeping bhp with the tpe inlet quiet until after race day. Please enlighten us! 👍
We’ll do a separate video on it, but it’s currently 204 at the wheels on 1320’s dyno, could be mapped to more but it is pretty much the max we’re allowed for our power to weight ratio for our class
@WolftraxRacing okay thanks. What was it before the inlet and you think you genuinely saw AIT reduce?
@@benbirch2393 Maximum we saw last year was 175 at the wheels but we were never on 1320s dyno before so can't compare too much. Definitely a reduction in IATs over last year of over 20°C in race conditions.
@WolftraxRacing I've got so many questions! Will wait til you've dropped the vid...thanks
Sorry that the first race didn't go to plan but hey that's racing. The cars looking an sounding great, can't wait for next week now for race 2 an 3. It looks like something went on in either race 2 or 3, I just hope you're all OK an the car survived.
Hi what mods have you done to engine And what exhaust you running sounds good
Hi, thanks. It’s got a 17% reduced pulley, TPE inlet manifold, TPE charge pipe, Catcam 469, 550cc injectors, scorpion exhaust manifold and a slightly modified Milltek exhaust.
The stated charging performance is 5-80% in 35 minutes on a 58(62) battery. So 75% of 58 is 43.5 so in 35 minutes it needs to average 75kwh over that range. The best I’ve ever achieved was 72 on ionity once - all this has been scheduled out to Listers and VWs solicitors in detail and none of my figures have ever been challenged at all! Not anything. Not one charge, one number: nothing. It simply doesn’t perform ever at that stated level. In contrast my BMW i4 just hits the numbers ever single time
Don't know whether it was the charger, they were supposed to be ultra fast (Shell) - but the fastest I've gotten (only 4 public charges) was 50 kw/h ☹️. Fortunately, they were quick 20min top-ups to get home.
@@louishiggins8881 Yes that’s much more what I got and I’ve photographed other Cupras in mid battery range on 350kwh chargers doing about the same. Bluntly it’s nothing like the technical specs say
@@gesp5151 That was starting from ~40% battery capacity. Definitely believe that unless you have a home charger, EVs won't work.
Ever single time? As for the one saying EVs won’t work unless you have a home charger…did you hear her say she has free charging at work? I also have charging at work, where I’m there 5 days out of 7 except holidays and even then it’s not hard find charge, even if it takes a bit longer than stated. Proper first world problem you have there, good job that starving family over there with no roof over their head isn’t reading this eh?
@@X22GJP I agree it’s a travesty if large first world corporations are taking money off people for products which don’t work properly or to specifications when if people knew the product was like that they could give the money to charity
Remove de White vinyl in the windows and put PPF, protect and its clear 👌
