I just feel that generally speaking the mawlid gatherings as practiced by the soofees today are in many ways a smokescreen. While maybe claiming to recount the seerah, they also include musical instruments, dancing and other innovations. People who call them out could even be accused of not loving the prophet s.a.w.!!!

If the person does not view mawlid as part of deen, then leave him if he does celebrate the mawlid. (He has not added to the deen). And if the other person view it as a bid'a that should not be practiced, then let him go his way as well. (He has not subtracted from the deen). We have become a narrow minded, nit picking, stagnant community who always very "humbly" correct one another.
