Why It's Not a Good Idea to Turn Around if Your Engine Fails After Takeoff
Переглядів 8264 роки тому
This video is demonstrating reasons why you need to think twice before you decide to turn back to the runway if you lose an engine after takeoff. This demonstration is simulated up at altitude and is not intended for pilots to try this type of maneuvering without an experienced CFI on board.

"so what if-" "instructor."
great video, thank you for this
Who’s screaming at 2:29
When we do simulated engine outs we go ALL the way down to the field like 300 feet above it and then recover. I've been struggling with it a lil, I end up high on the approach. I've never tried the circle method but I'm hesitant to use it on the checkride since I've never practiced it before.
Those planes are beautiful.
I was surprised to see a "stick" control on a modern A/C.
A-Airspeed(73KTS) B-Best place to land C-Emergency Checklist D-Declare an emergency and 7700 E-Execute the plan!
Make sure you actually fly at 73 knots, in other words establish glide attitude.
this is so cool!!! I fly in Spain and my school uses almost all the diamonds, 20, 40, and 42, ill be going up one by one but this is helping me so much, and ive been going through every video over and over trying to get things just right. this is in 2023 XD
I enjoyed how you used the drawing application to help further elaborate. Well done
Thank you for this very instructive video
Thank you. @ISUFlightAcademy What year is the DA20 model from? Looks muuuch more comfortable than the one I do license training. That’s from 2006 or so
You forgot to set flaps T/O - DA20 has best gliding perfomance on flaps t/o and 73 kts
Depends on weight/balance and your altitude. If engine failure occurs during take off climb, then you will most likely still have flaps set to T/O so you pitch for the appropriate speed found in the POH depending on flaps and weight. In this scenario at 5000ft, you will get more range if you pitch to the best glide speed with flaps up.
No. It's 73 Clean, 60 kts with Flaps T/O but you'll only get your best glide 1:11 with clean flaps.
@@timt1519 Gliding 1. Wing Flaps T/O 2. Airspeed at 1609 lbs (730 kg) (vIAS) 72 kts / 83 mph / 133 km/h 3. Glide Ratio 14, which means at 1000 ft/305m above ground, and with no wind the distance of glide is 2.5 NM (4.3 km) from AFM
Great video. Good student. Cool and collected.
I do my Intro Flight with this plane next week. Looking forward to it!
how did it go?
Wonder if these guys are at the airlines now?
I watched one of ur students tailstrike at nifa
Wow, I had never realized how much altitude you lose. I'll keep that in mind
It’s a significant exchange
Great explaination. Thanks
Thank you
Great Video. Thanks
nice,, rear door should never be locked ,,, how would you get out of it in a crash
Flying this next week, thanks for the video!
I'm a learning pilot and just wanted to say I love how smooth that went! Thanks for sharing and I've learned something today.
It’s on the pfd where the speed tape is. Also it’s in the poh
Where did you find Vx for the -40?
There’s no
"There is no." ?@@Saggydudeee
@@bill2392 yeah, it’s not published
Controls free and correct. He checked the free part but not the "correct" part. Should probably look outside and verify. Not possible with some aircraft...but certainly doable in the DA40.
ya he just looked straight ahead and down,, he a student so instructor should have been on his case
@@MAGApepe Yep
Damm. Bruh, that student. I sucked ass compared to that guy, when I was on first training. That's the student every instructor would like lol
how did he put the flaps down without the airspeed being in the white arc?
He put them to T/O at 108 KIAS, the end of the white arc indicates Vfe for landing flaps. So the flap extension speed was correct as takeoff flaps Vfe is 108 KIAS.
Very well explained good job 👏🏼!
Great vid. Procedure question: after landing, is it standard procedure to take first taxi-way off active, (unless instructed otherwise?)
Hi Joe. Good Question! In short answer, yes. According to the Aeronautical Information Manual (AIM) The FAA publishes the following: 4−3−20. Exiting the Runway After Landing The following procedures must be followed after landing and reaching taxi speed. a.Exit the runway without delay at the first available taxiway or on a taxiway as instructed by ATC. Pilots must not exit the landing runway onto another runway unless authorized by ATC. At airports with an operating control tower, pilots should not stop or reverse course on the runway without first obtaining ATC approval For further information on this, please reference AIM 4-3-20. Thank you!
Enjoyed this vid. Love the flow. Great instruction. Thank u! One suggestion; any way to see g1000 displays better?
Nice vid...alpha 1 alpha bravo cross 23...
How is he that good? The student, is this one of his first lessons?
Not sure you can chose a good field from 5000ft as can't see power lines, fences slope etc! - looks like there are plenty so final selection prob could wait until 2000ft
Too much lesson in the air
V speeds for da20?
Flaps 15 T/O and speed 73 for best gliding performance.
He's on the ball (pun intended) for one of the first lessons. I loved learning on the katana.
I'm doing emergency procedures tomorrow at KLEX. Thank you for the helpful video!
Thankyou for the information !!!🙏
So the DA40 doesnt perform incipient spins?
The DA40 is not spin certified! However the smaller DA20, is spin certified! :)
@@EternalDetracting Too bad it's not certified, it seems to do it quite nicely. ua-cam.com/video/FgtTf1xbq-U/v-deo.html
1 90deg turn to left, then one 90deg right only covers 1/4 of the circle correct? It doesn't equal 180deg.
what’s 90 plus 90 chief
@@carsonhinterlong9949 what’s 90 minus 90?
@@kignacio wachu talkin bout willis? a clearing turn just has to be 180 degrees total. we’re not using the infinity gauntlet and reversing time to undo the turn, we’re doing two 90 degree turns to clear the area
@@carsonhinterlong9949😂
Thank you guys. These kind of videos are being very helpful during my training. All the best.
Excellent student. Really on the ball. Where was he in his training hour wise? I like the CFI’s teaching style. Not a lot of extraneous chit chat. Keep the videos coming.
They both are CFIs
I know im asking the wrong place but does anyone know of a tool to get back into an Instagram account?? I was dumb lost the login password. I would appreciate any assistance you can give me!
@Otto Kash i really appreciate your reply. I found the site on google and Im in the hacking process atm. I see it takes a while so I will get back to you later with my results.
@Otto Kash It worked and I actually got access to my account again. I'm so happy:D Thank you so much, you saved my ass !
@Samuel Gunnar happy to help =)
Thank you for making this! I'm going to be flying in one, and this has helped me so much!
Interior can be a bit different from this great tutorial, but you´ll manage. Awesome aircraft. Good luck on your flight lessons!
I guess it's quite off topic but do anyone know of a good place to watch new movies online ?
@Jonas Johnathan I watch on flixzone. Just search on google for it :)
@Daxton Rhett definitely, I've been watching on FlixZone for years myself =)
@Daxton Rhett Thank you, I signed up and it seems like they got a lot of movies there :D I appreciate it!
