As one of the warmups I have the kids run a lap while passing the ball back and forth between a partner. It helps practice for a fast break up the field.
Love this thanks for sharing with us.
US recreational, I realized the other day 1/2 of my team is on some sort of ADHD med, Girls U11. How do you deal with such changes in personality from practice to practice?
If you could, talk about how to coach the bench as well as players on the field during games.
1Lap but with the ball, only for boys who need a bit of "trainingfocus"... :D
NL.. NoLaps.. NoLectures.. NoLines.. NL
I assume this is for U6 & U8
I think players of all ages like to play and would rather not wait around or listen to the coach speak too long.
Catch 22 - talking too much to explain drills that aren’t lines.
Absolutely, talking too much for any practice can challenge player concentration and enjoyment.
I could use some help no experience and my team lost 1-0 slot of criticism from the parents
How did the season go, coach?
How did it go
You promised to drop a Facebook channel
Thanks for the reminder. facebook.com/GlobalSoccerEducation
I just want to start gathering a team
a soccer team? are you a coach?
Fofocdps Soslsososososossososoos wow
Wowowoww
What is an invasion game? If you are waiting for the field, what could you have the kids do (besides juggling)?
Groups of 5 in 10-15 ft cone grid Rondo.
An invasion game is when an offensive team attacks the defensive team's goal, target or area while maintaining possession of the ball. Absolutely! Juggling a ball, alone or with a small group, is a fantastic activity while waiting for the field.
Love these easy tips!!! Keep the players happy by playing games.
Thank you Dieter, players love a game.
Great tips just about to start my coaching career as my amateur playing days are coming to an end . As a fellow English man can’t help but think this video should have the word football rather then soccer 😂👀
Good luck with your transition into coaching. I hope the tips can help you.
after being a player for a long time i thought it should come to an end. i really enjoy coaching and seeing others carry on with the passion of the game.
I m 70yrs and did a Grade B certification in soccer, but stopped for a while. Can I have some refresher or next class A coaching soccer courses.?.
Kelvin, I recommend reaching out to your local soccer association and ask of your B certification is still recognised as current. They can confirm it's status and any requirements for maintaining your certification.
I’ve coached in Europe and now in the US and it interesting the difference of coaching between the 2 places. Definitely more challenging in Europe for the kids, less politics, harder trainings. My players in the US are a lot softer especially at a young age. And parents in the US think they also are coaches most of the time, giving Terrible advice to their kids. Just saying.
europe is better because thats where the game comes from, you need to be pushed not babied.
Okay will try it out
Great video 👌
Very helpful video! I just started coaching soccer with high school students! I was wondering if you have any tips on how to keep them all focused or concentrated during practice because it can sometimes very hard since they tend to goof around a lot! Thanks!
I am pleased this video was helpful for you Nicolas. As for tips on keeping players engaged and focused, stay tuned to the channel as this is a common question I receive.
Jason was my soccer coach and his ways of working has inspired me to get to where i am today. I am a successful coach to a fantastic squad of players. I would not have got there without the guidance and listening to Jason. Good luck with Canada boss we are all proud of you. ***KEEP LISTENING PEOPLE AND I WISH YOU EVERY SUCCESS WITH YOUR COACHING JOURNEY***
Thank you Adam, I am glad that I inspired you to become a coach.
reducing lines is one of the best things to do. it really maximizes practice time when you have almost no one in line. setting up 2 of a certain drill or 2 or 3 different drills can make it go much faster and keep the boys engaged. I went to multiple drills or multiple setups and saw huge increases in productivity during practice and more of the guys staying engaged
Great point, use more smaller number set ups to reduce the need for players to wait around.
I'm a new coach, how do I control up to 15kids in a session. How do I put an eye on everyone of them
Hi Eyongeta, this is a common question I get asked, so stay connected to the channel as I will be creating a video on this in the future.
you use the erge of pushing and repitition so they get better
Thanks for this video, really helpful. Can we get more
Thank you for watching Eyongeta, I am glad this video was helpful for you. There will be more coming soon.
Good reminders, thanks! Just took over our U8 team yesterday-was shocked at how well our kids followed an exercise with lines of 2… the high work:wait ratio (or however you described it) makes sense
Thanks Derrick, great to hear you have the work to rest ratio a go with only two players waiting. Great effort!
Am looking for opportunities to have free online coaching course so that I can be a better coach in the feature
Hi Aiah, UA-cam is a great place to start to learn some of the basics of coaching. However, that won't replace taking a structured coaching course. Maybe check the national soccer association websites, you might find some offer free introduction to coaching courses but greater coaching development will come from the paid courses. Good luck in your coaching journey.
I want a free coaching course too.
Hi Akinlusi, if you follow the guidance above, that will be a good place to start to access some valuable free resources. Good luck.
Great video greetings from 🇲🇽 Mexico !
Glad you liked the video. Good to see we are reaching a football loving country like Mexico too.
This is nice- if the club wants to help with the licensing, it can make an offer. In that scenario, they benefit as much as any party.
I agree. In my experience, the most progressive clubs are the ones with a clear philosophy of how they support the development of their coaches.
Jason, this video was hugely helpful. I really appreciate your experience and sharing your expertise. I'm looking forward to seeing what courses you create for us beginner grassroots coaches!
Thank you Mike, I appreciate your kind words. Stay tuned for more coaching videos specifically to help beginner and grassroots soccer coaches.
great tips Jason! I would really like to start helping to coach my daughters team, but I never really played the sport, where is the best place to start?
Thank you for your kind words Mike. These videos in our channel are aimed to support beginner coaches, so you started in a good place! Additionally, United Soccer Coaches has an abundance of coaching resources and courses for beginner coaches too.
My advice- make every excercise a game, avoid "drills" Keep the girls moving. I also like rondos because the kids work on quick thinking, touch, passing, and defense all in one drill. I mix myself into the middle occasionally because the girls like it.
"Make every exercise a game", great tip. Works at all levels, professional players love this too.
THANK YOU! Wonderfully helpful
You’re most welcome Nathan. Feel free to share any topics you’d like me to record a video of in the future.
Really glad you said avoiding lines. I want each player engaged the whole time :) Thank you for the advice, great stuff
Thank you for sharing your kind thoughts Eric. I agree, limiting lines is a great way to increase player involvement.
Great video!
Thank you Michael, I am glad you liked the video. Is there any coaching topics you would like me to cover in future videos?
for 7 v 7 how should I line the team up for games when we only have 7 on the team and there are no back ups. what is the best rotation of the players to keep them fresh when the only break they get is half time? ( we are a small team who play teams of 10 to 12 and are on the field the hole game) there is not an option for more players so I have to work with what I have and I am trying to keep the kids from getting burnt out. The kids have been great and put in there all but we have a hard time keeping up with the other teams.
If you are in a position where you can't recruit any more players to allow some rest and rotation, then I would think about how you label success with your players. As a collective it might be hard to stay in games but if you give each player a single technical objective. Regardless of the score during or at the end of the game, discuss how each player performed their objective. That way the players might get more success even if they get over run in games.
I would use a 2-3-1. 2 defenders, 3 midfielders, and 1 striker. I’d put a speedster up front who can get some breakaways, dribble the defenders, get some 1v1’s with the goalie, and the midfielders support the attack. I’d put a good communicator at center mid who can feed good passes up to the striker. On the back line I’d put my more reliable defender on whichever side the opposing team’s striker’s strong foot is because statistically their attack will veer that direction. And a solid athlete who can anticipate the game in goal. Of course I have no idea what your players are like, but I’ve found that at the younger levels the scorers also make some of the best keepers. So I’d maybe load the center positions (goalie, center mid, and striker) and rotate those center three players every third of the game. Then I’d swap the left and right defenders with their corresponding midfielders as needed. I like a strong/fast counter attack. There’s nothing worse than playing an entire game in your defensive half.
I'm a new coach and I love it should have did this year's ago
That's great to hear that you love being a coach. If you love it, that helps any players you coach to love it too. Good luck in your coaching.
Always love your advice!
Thank you Sam, appreciate you taking the time to watch the videos.
Thank you sl much for the information am now able to coach well .After listening to you keenly
Thank you Timothy, I’m glad this information was helpful for you. Good luck.
I'm not a soccer but I thoroughly enjoyed this discussion. Great insight on the recruiting tips. Similar to basketball. Look forward to seeing more
Thank you IAMTALLBOY, the collegiate environment is so important, so glad you enjoyed Paul's insights.
Great guest Jason thanks to Mr. Cox. Loads of information on so many aspects of the game, coaching, life, player development and the student athlete perspective. Great ending with the "No real right or wrong part of coaching" and the Manchester United vs West Ham analogy.
Thank you for your comment Lonny, Paul is a very humble guy that is passionate to help other coaches with his successes but also with the challenges he has faced and how he over came them. So was delighted to have him on the live. There are so many grey areas in coaching, so very difficult to say this is right and that is wrong.
Great stuff, Jason. Every coach started with zero experience... so true and applicable in so many other areas as well. Keep it coming! 💪🏼
Thank you Coach Rye, the first steps into coaching can feel like the biggest for some people. Appreciate your feedback.
Love the inspiration @jason!
Appreciate it THE JOD POD.
The best coaches in the world started on day 1 with no experience. ✅
Thanks James, sometimes the gremlins remind you what you don't know. It's good to remember we all start at the same place..
So there is some hope lol
Fantastic stuff :) learnt a lot that can be applied not only to footie but life!
Thanks AJ, hopefully this advice can help you on the journey to Monaco.
“Shout out to Holly!” You’ve got this Holly. Great video, Jason. Love these three tips. #1 was my favorite. (All were excellent).
Thank you Ashly, really appreciate the feedback. Enjoyment has to be the #1 outcome for the kids.
Great work Jason. From my experience in the game, be it, coaching or talent identification, one part that frustrates me when I observe coaching is how difficult and complicated coaches seem to make sessions. I was recently asked to give feedback to a coach who was taking an under U9 session. I had to be completely honest to the coach and explain the U9's didn't have a clue about, combinations, transitioning into the final 3rd, pressing for the counter, keep it simple was the only advice I could give him, the poor kids looked lost. Certainly looking forward to further videos.
This is so true Rodney, coaches can sometimes project the adult game on children. So important to pitch the session content to the level and needs of the players.
@@GlobalSoccerEducation couldn't agree more. I now work as an Adult Mentor for my local County FA, for me the most important, statement, coach to the level of the players involved. I will certainly be sharing your content in future session.
You have swag?! I want one of those shirts!!! Love this.
I might have a few available, no plans for an e-commerce store yet though.
Well, I’d love one if things change.
Awesome! Looking forward to your videos in the future!
Thank you BeeProductive, a new video will be released every Saturday.
Great intro JB - look forward to have you on THE JOD POD. 😎
Thank you The JOD POD, really enjoyed being a guest on your show.
Love this Jason. Look forward to see where you take the channel. ✅
Appreciate that James, just heard Elon Musk is looking over his shoulder.
Really exciting to see what comes next. Fantastic first video!
Thank you AJ, future videos will be released on match days (Saturdays).
