    Garad means chielf or king in Somali, it can also mean justice, it was also role of commanders in the Malassay army, as you read the Futah if you understand Somali you'll pick up a lot.

    • @AfricanHistoryChannell
      @AfricanHistoryChannell Місяць тому

      Although the word ‘Garad’ is in the Somali language, it is also used by Oromos, Hararis and a lot more. So it’s not exclusive to Somali. The malassay were not Somali , these were ‘ Harla’ peoples. Who are the Harari’s ancestors .

      @@AfricanHistoryChannell I must disagree with you here. The Harlas that are alive today (some assimilated by Oromos and Afars while others live in Jigjiga, Diredawa and Djibouti) all claim descent from the Darood Somali clan being brothers of Harti and Kombe. Even the ones assimilated by Oromos and Afars count their ancestry all the way to Darood. So saying Harlas are not Somali is the equivalent of saying Darood is not Somali which is impossible. Furthermore, the successor of Ahmed Gurey was Emir Nur who was from the Marehan Darood clan. This further solidifies the identity of the Adal Sultans who were also called Berbers who speak the same Berber language in Mogadishu by Ibn Battuta.

    Why do you call Ethiopia, Abyssinia? Abyssinia is a portugese name given to us by portugal. No one is that land refers to themselfes as abyssinian, its not even in our language. Portugese called us Abyssinian because the name meas christian island. Just say Ethiopian empire.

    • @AfricanHistoryChannell
      @AfricanHistoryChannell 2 місяці тому

      ‘Ethiopia’ means ‘burnt face’ in Greek.. so take your pick which European names you want to go with. Alternatively no one besides Amharas and Tigrays call themselves Ethiopian. The rest of us call us by our own names. ‘Oromia’ ‘Somalia’ ‘Harrari’ and so forth. Historically these were not part of the Ethiopian empire, but their own independent kingdoms respectfully. Furthermore, I am relaying word for word the chronicler and eye witness of the time. It was referred back then in Arabic as ‘Habash’ today it’s still used but in English back then was referred as - Abyssinia and now Ethiopia

    • @tomg7124
      @tomg7124 2 місяці тому

      @AfricanHistoryChannell You're right, "Ethiopia" is a Greek name. However, our true name is pronounced "ItyoPiya," not "Ethiopia," as our language doesn't include the "th" sound. Europeans began using "Ethiopia" because they struggled to pronounce our real name, "ItyoPiya," with its distinct "P" sound. So ItyoPiya is our name, Ethiopia is what Greeks call us, Abyssinia is what the portugese called us.

      @AfricanHistoryChannell As for the Oromos, harrar, etc. These tribes were not part of the Ityopian Empire but they were part of Axum. So they did have a historical ties with habesha.
