Ok, what are you supposed to do here? Was loving this game until this stage. I have a absolutely no idea what you're supposed to do. It looks like you're supposed to jump with the lights in this stage, but I still die every time I pass thru a ring. What am I not understanding here?

How the hell did I beat this game

The way it teaches you is confusing. It removes the obstacles and assumes you are going to do the move at your discretion without any prompt. To brake through the shield you need to press forward and the action button to rise up as you do with the ground obstacles, (you need to do this as you pass over the action prompt light on the froor) hold up until you reach the next prompt light. Instead of pressing the action button slam down, this should brake the shield. Once the see that the shield is broken you can tap the action button as normal and your shots will hit.

The glitch field ID that allows for the car to be sliced during a pulse is 999, and only works in non-arcade modes. In order for it to function at all, a TunnelHorrorField must be present within the same region, which also doesn't work in non-arcade modes. Really wish it did.

This definitely was a person's psychedelic trip recreated into a game.
