Footage of Jordan's speech before the Dallas Women's Foundation, held at the LBJ School of Public Affairs on the UT-Austin campus. Jordan speaks about women's rights, philanthropy and the spirit of a democratic nation. Jordan's not-often seen sense of humor and comic timing really shines through in this speech.

She is so intelligent I doubt half the audience fully understood the content of her speech.
I love hearing her speeches.
Brilliance.
What sabotage schemes have always happened when some great legendary political speeches would become a opened ears and eyes for building a better family and world for all?
Forty eight years ago of this year. 📚🙏👣💙🌎
That is the Democrat Party I liked ,she is why I voted for Clinton over his immigration policy , because of the 1983 Amnesty Bill. If Barbara had not had MS ,she very well could have become President , but she would have switched party just like Trump.
Not that’s a Black Female President!!!!!
“We Believe …..” ⚖️
“Equality for All, and Privileges for None.”
Wow! What an OVATION! 🎉
Here from reading the daily stoic.
An exceptional person who left us all to soon.
Hernandez Ronald Johnson Linda Martinez Gary
She was so intelligent, she would have made a great President. I love to hear her speeches.
She had a wonderful voice, a special way of speaking - she must be listened too. She was wonderful!
An uncommitted delegate from Oklahoma wanted Jimmy Carter to have her as his running mate. That delegate from Oklahoma voted for her!!
She was one of my heros
She would have made a great President ! 😢
How come they didn’t make movie about her?
Her family most likely don't want the lesbian stuff in a movie lol
I remember seeing this in 1992 and being utterly amazed.
I will never forget my mom finding me and having me watch this speech when I was 10. One of the best speeches ever given!
The great Congresswoman from Texas, Barbara Jordan. A powerful speaker. She was a member of the House committee investigating Watergate.
i love Barbara Jordan, such an amazing women and orator
I Barbara Jordan am a keynote schpeeka.
This aged a little too well. I wish her speech was irrelevant now. Excellent speaker! (6 Nov 2022)
Several sections need to be spliced and used to seal the deal. Vote blue. Vote. Barbara Jordan’s words resonate. She’s a great American.
A great American. We need more people like this today in our government.
Were democrats liberal then?
Absolutely. Moreso. So were a lot of Republicans by today's standards. The whole country has shifted rightward since then.
Were democrats liberal back then?
a complicated mix, by and large more focused on getting poor working class support than they are today, which means different rhetoric that may sound more liberal at times or less liberal at times. you can see the contrast even in 1988's DNC speech by ann richards, but either way, it's definitely not quite the same democratic party of the 1890s
There were different factions Jimmy Carter was more moderate to conservative on issues as well as liberal. Much like my large extended Family who were all Democrats. The Party today is no longer that big inclusive tent.
if part 3 is not available, here is the rest of the speech What we have to do is strike a balance between the idea that government should do everything and the idea, the belief, that government ought to do nothing. Strike a balance. Let there be no illusions about the difficulty of forming this kind of a national community. It's tough, difficult, not easy. But a spirit of harmony will survive in America only if each of us remembers that we share a common destiny; if each of us remembers, when self-interest and bitterness seem to prevail, that we share a common destiny. I have confidence that we can form this kind of national community. I have confidence that the Democratic Party can lead the way. I have that confidence. We cannot improve on the system of government handed down to us by the founders of the Republic. There is no way to improve upon that. But what we can do is to find new ways to implement that system and realize our destiny. Now I began this speech by commenting to you on the uniqueness of a Barbara Jordan making a keynote address. Well I am going to close my speech by quoting a Republican President and I ask you that as you listen to these words of Abraham Lincoln, relate them to the concept of a national community in which every last one of us participates: "As I would not be a slave, so I would not be a master." This -- This -- "This expresses my idea of Democracy. Whatever differs from this, to the extent of the difference, is no Democracy." Thank you.
I remember seeing this, with tears in my eyes ! I loved this woman ! -----------MJL, 75 y/o
My dad, born in 1916, white, and a WWII veteran, called me into the room when Barbara Jordan spoke. He told me that this woman was the smartest person on the national stage and that she should be president. He believed that she would someday be just that and he wanted to see that happen. I wish that she could have lived to reach that goal that my father set for her and I am thankful for my dad who taught me to listen to every voice and to champion the exceptional ones. Barbara Jordan was truly exceptional as was my dad who made me listen to her.
great, brilliant and needs to be heard by sll.
Very honored to have attended my high school named after her” Barbara Jordan High School for Careers” in Houston, Tx. Love you my lady💙🌹💙🌹💙🌹
Thank you for sharing this.
Manners.
The Gods bestowed upon the American people a truly great and Rare individual. The Honorable Barbara Jordon was a Rare, Special Statemen given to us by the heavens above! I wish she was here today to teach us, unite us, and inspire us to take responsibility of our civic obligations to demand that our liberties need not be deferred. She would tell us in a manner which would be understood by We The People.
Greatest female Democrat ever!
Blah blah blah. Democrats were emboldened by Nixons fuck up. Got their clock cleaned in 80.
It seems so very wrong Ms. Jordan did not live to see the Obama inaugural 2009. I was not alive in '76 but it seems like a possibility for transformation felt closer back then. We've barely survived total destruction.
She ruled lol
I never even knew! I wasn't even born yet!!
The Democrats of today would censor Barbara Jordan because she stands for constitutionality, due process, and lawful immigration. I always looked up to Barbara Jordan as a real American statesman and not a politician.
She makes me proud to have been born and raised in Houston Texas. We are Texans first and American second.
Rep.Barbara Jordan (D-Texas), who electrified our country, who inspired the world with her great address at the 1976 Democratic National Convention, when then-Governor Jimmy Carter was nominated. #RIPBarbaraJordan 😢😢 #TheDemocrats 🌐🌎🌍🌏🌐
Love the way she talking

Put HER on $20 Bill.
I was 1 year old when this happened. So happy to hear this lady speak.
I hope Viola Davis plays her in a project.
