Why you “should” wear shoes in the house
There is another side to this.
Let me first say that it makes sense to remove them if you're wearing snow boots or have been walking in the mud or something. Most of the time people are on the sidewalk and floors. Whatever someone stepped in earlier is probably long gone. Good door mats remove lose dirt and dry shoes pretty well. You can also keep a towel at the door for wet weather. The little extra cleaning to keep floors clean is worth it to not inconvenience yourself and everyone else and to reap the benefits below. Teach kids to wipe their shoes and avoid muddy areas and have different shoes for these areas. Foot pain like plantar fasciitis tendonitis is more common walking barefoot in your home. Walking on hard floors causes calluses on the feet. Sturdy shoes will prevent this and keep your feet soft. While you can wear indoor only shoes most don't and it becomes a hassle playing music shoes all day. You think your kid is going to want to take their sneakers off, put on their indoor shoes just to go to the bathroom and then have to remove them and put their outdoor shoes back on? Of course not, they will probably just stay in or end up putting something easy to slip on back on. It's more convenient and it makes you more productive. How often do you just say the heck with it because you don't have your shoes on? When you are dressed and ready to go you can go in and out of the house at a moments notice. People end up wearing poor quality shoes like slides, or flip flops or shoes with out socks because they are easy to put on. I see so many kids and adults outside in these shoes. The kids will be trying to play and it just isn't working. A few months ago I saw a kid kick a ball and his shoe flew off and he wasn't wearing socks! If he wore shoes daily he would be properly dressed when his friends came a knocking and wanted to play.
Making shoes a daily routine for kids will get them used to wearing them and they will prefer shoes like sneakers with socks over being barefoot or wearing say Crocs. Kids may also be more likely to go outside and play when they are dressed.
It's safer, yes you can injure your feet inside and sometimes even break something or lose a toenail. Also if you're wearing shoes that are easy to put on and take off because there is a "strict no shoe rule", there is more opportunity to injure your feet. Socks can also be a slip hazard.
Socks and feet stay clean. While your house may be "clean". I know from experience being in these no shoe homes my socks end up having hair, lint, crumbs and dust on them. If there is water on the floor I'm stepping in that! You're then transferring this into your shoes, making the inside the shoes dirty. Also any bacteria you're picking up in getting in there. If you get exposed to someones fungus this can become an issue too. I got athlete's foot in karate class when I was a teen. I know it was there because my friend got it too!
When people come to visit you're properly dressed. If they want you to go someplace with them you are ready and they don't have to wait.
If you make getting dressed a daily thing in comfortable, practical clothes, that will be comfortable for you and even more comfortable when you undress at night.
Leaving your shoes on is actually more comfortable. The heat and sweat actually softens the socks and inside of them shoes allowing them to mold to your feet. This also reduces chafing and keeps the skin from drying out. You take your shoes off everything is going to dry out and will be stiff when you put them on. In fact if you're not wearing a new pair of shoes for several hours they will never truly break in and mold to your feet.
Your guest will be comfortable. If they want to remove their shoes they can, if they want to leave them on they can. Some people have medical issues where they need to wear shoes. It's hard for some people to take their shoes off. Some people's feet get cold. Some people wear shoes in their own home, what makes you think they want to walk around on your hard floors without shoes?
You don't need to get your thick calluses removed from being barefoot and wearing sandals because you always wear proper shoes and socks.
You can lose that nasty pile of shoes at the door and store your shoes in your bedroom. You and your guest at a party can keep their outfit complete. You can just clean the floors after everyone leave. After all there will probably be crumbs and stuff on the floor.
While I see the benefits of a shoe off home, it creates a lot of unintended consequences. In the end you don't need a spotless home. Germs are good for your immune system, this includes babies. Past generations and many today wear shoes in their home and do just fine. In the end you'll be more productive and you'll feel better being dressed during the day.

The entire hospital including AC is running on these two Caterpillar diesel generators. It is business as usual after the generator kicked on. The professional builders were without power as they do not have generators.

Listen with headphones to get how it actually sounds in person. This Caterpillar generator is powering the entire hospital after a fuse the power company installed failed. Sorry it's at an angle, didn't want to be so obvious that I was filming. There is a second smaller generator not running next to it as a backup for critical circuits should this one fail. This was filmed on February 14, 2022.
