The Deadliest Garden in the World - Alnwick Poison Garden
Within the grounds of Alnwick Castle lies the deadliest garden in the world - containing over 100 species of toxic, venomous, and narcotic plants. I've been dreaming of visiting this beautiful garden for years! Watch to the end to see me craft a sinister Halloween flower garland in its honour, so come along - if you dare…

Redwings Winter Watercolour Painting
Переглядів 87Рік тому
Last year I began with a failure, that was a helpful lesson in itself! Watch that video here: ua-cam.com/video/aCPJ7bEGPfs/v-deo.html As the hedgerows became crowded with Redwings for another cold season I knew it was time to revisit the subject and try again, with the practice and lessons from my failure supporting me. Here is my take two journey with the birds and the berries… Thanks for watc...

The biggest NEW forest in England in 1000 years!
Переглядів 1902 роки тому
A Symbol of Hope: 25 years ago, the Midlands landscape was a very different scene - scarred and blackened by coal, clay, and lead mining, and the industry that goes along with such things. With 9 million trees planted since, The National Forest zone now spans an impressive 200 square miles! It was the first forest to be created at such a scale in England for over 1000 years, and has been succes...
It's great to feel small! Giant Sequoias in the UK
Переглядів 3,6 тис.2 роки тому
I do love a BIG tree and last week I had the immense pleasure of meeting many immense trees at Blackwater Arboretum in the New Forest, UK. Mostly the area is filled with impressively sized Beech and towering Douglas Fir, but most famous are the pair of Giant Sequoia's (Sequoiadendron giganteum) planted in 1859, check out the video for their approx height and a comparison to the largest Sequoia ...
Meeting The Major Oak - Britain's largest Oak tree
Переглядів 7 тис.2 роки тому
The Major Oak is the largest oak tree in Britain and is believed to be between 800 and 1,000 years old. Join me on a walk to meet and sketch this incredible specimen deep within the famous Sherwood Forest, Nottinghamshire. It’s absolutely mind blowing to think that sometime between the reign of King Canute, and the signing of the Magna Carta, one small acorn was taking root - and is still here ...

Nightjar sounds in North Norfolk
Переглядів 4132 роки тому
A first for me! A short march to the heath as the sky changed palette. After the evening scream of a Fox faded away and the hoots of a Tawny Owl came and went, we strained ears against wind and road noise until finally the sound we waited for - the bizarre trill of a Nightjar floated in. Distant but very cool! I know it's not the best recording, I do what I can with what I have, but I still wan...

30 seconds Wetlands Sunset - Birds & Caddisflies at Lee Valley

Fairies are real! They just look a little different to the stories... I was lucky enough to catch this beautiful sunset last weekend as the Caddisflies took to the air at London Lee Valley park. Walking & Drawing the Saffron Walden Turf Maze

On my way back from visiting Kew Gardens in London, I thought I’d stop by the Saffron Walden turf maze and take a little walk... It’s not the kind of Maze you can get lost in, but a beautifully kept example of a winding labyrinth that packs 1500m of path into a design only 35 metres across. The idea of walking a labyrinth is to fall into a kind of moving meditative state, you can reflect on som...

Thank you for the simplified explanation, but the mandala is much older than we imagine, and it is a Sufi way of knowing the Divine Self, its existence, and its surrounding everything.

The mandala is mentioned in the statement sermon by Imam Ali bin Abi Talib when he described himself saying, “I am the dot. I am the line. I am the line. I am the dot. I am the honor of the circles.” I advise you to delve deeper into what Imam Ali said and interpreted by the German scholar Henrik in 1937 in his book preserved in German museums, or to search for (Khatbat al-Bayan) by Imam Ali bin Abi Talib. ‏‪3:06‬‏

As a child I actually walked inside this tree. Absolutely fascinating. Someone tried to set fire to it in time, now you can't even go near to it. I now live in East Sussex in Beckley and one thing I've noticed is that English Oak trees seem to grow like bonkers here, they seem to like the clay based soils. Just an observation.

Cheaper paint with filler has its uses. It seems to work better on thin cartridge papers than good quality watercolour, which seems to bleed through the paper in thin washes. The filler in cheap watercolour thickens it up and it doesn't make the paper bleed. At any rate, most important thing is to keep painting and have fun!

I have a giant sequoia that is a little bit taller than me. I am 68 years old. I wonder if I will live long enough to see it, or my other sequoias grow to be fifty feet tall. Fortunately we have a grove of really big ones at Coombe Abbey in Coventry.

As a kid in the late 50's and into the 60's we often visited Sherwood Forest regularly as my Gran lived nearby in Ollerton. We would usually be playing games around and in it climbing inside and up the lower branches, but there was nothing like the visitor numbers of more recent times.
