Really enjoyed this one! Great job!
that is a lovely iron i have just ordered one,i live in australia and they are a bit harder to find i have also subscribed looking forward to all your videos
thankyou for replying to my comment, i have had a dislike for arfs for some time but that does not m,ean they are bad just my opinion that corsair looks really good, i also use fabric oratex it great to see an accomplished builder enjoying his craft
I am a retired carpenter and have been in the hobby since i was a kid in school when i can find an arf that is not crap i will buy one until then i will continue to build until i cannot hold a knife any more, hopefully there are other people who feel the same way
@@AlexMacKenzie-n9r Building rc planes is the best way to get to know your plane. And is in my opinion the cheapest way to stay in the hobby. ARF can be good planes. But not right out of the box. All most all I have built, had to be modified in some way. Thanks for commenting Lots of love Brother 💕🛫

I'm so glad I somehow found a Playlist on this plane. I have committed before about Playlist. Thanks for posting
Dude it would be much better to not have any music at all than that same riff on repeat it gets so annoying that I wanna turn the video off
Yes Its hard to find music anymore, That UA-cam wont flag it. I was doing it with out and people wanted it. So I put it in. Sorry for the inconvenience I try to find some more. Thanks ❤🛩
I remember my 1st Corsair. 1st plane I ever covered. Came out great. Anyone scared of covering dont be. Watch Hurley, he knows what he's doing.
@ Thanks for the kind words Lots of love Brother 💕🛫
Please make separate Playlist for each build. I think it will help your channel. I like your builds and many other will too if they are easier to find and watch. Thanks for posting your work.
Thanks for letting me know. I got it do. I did not think of doing it. Thanks again ❤🛩
Please put each plane to it's own Playlist. You are so close to the 1000 subscribers mark.
I'd love to watch your builds. Please put the planes in their own Playlist. It's really hard to find the next part of a build when they're all over. I think doing so will help your channel grow. Best of luck. Looking forward to watching a Playlist per plane.
For anybody starting this kit, here are my two cents: The kit is old. It's from an era when the engine would just get it airborne. If you want to sport fly this thing, definitely put in some extra sticks and glue. The wing attachment method is simply awful and nearly impossible to connect on your own at the field. Absolutely add a wing tube. The instructions are good, but it's an intermediate level project with some decisions required by the builder for wing tips, windows, radio equipment, etc. Other than that, it's a really nice plane. It flies nice.
so cool seeing this cutting technology in action and wow there massive! very interesting!
Great video
#1👍 💯 awesome brother looking amazing brother.
looking good bro!
Nice technique. I would think the wood would burn when you did soldering but it just worked great.
Hey Dan, welcome back. I just recently saw that you started the videos again. I guess you have been really busy in a daily life. Good to see you again. Will be watching now.
cant get enough of this corsair! more vids please :)
I just purchased this kit unopened. It has the plans but no instruction book it says on the box it should come with one. Did yours ?
@@bigbearoutdoors1999 yes It should have one in it. I would contact them. I just bought plans for a 1/3 scale one and it has one too
Seems that foam planes are the norm now, which I accept. It’s ok for those that are into that and honestly opens the door to many more people in the RC hobby that want to fly rather than build. I personally like to build as much or more than fly so balsa will always be my preferred choice with fiberglassing and composite mixed in. 3D printing is also the future and several examples of how planes are being printed and flown now which keeps the RC community vibrant and alive. But I’m a builder and there always will be builders that keep this portion of RC alive and well, just different from before. One thing I think you missed. You mentioned having to cut your own wood from plans and getting a laser cutter if interested. I scratch built a Travel Air from my own plans I drew from 3-views. Yes, I had to learn CAD (2D only) but it was not a steep learning curve and you can buy wood from National balsa, but if you sent them a cut file of your wood they will laser cut it for you as well. It was not very expensive and more cost effective for me instead of buying a quality laser cutter able to cut ply. So there are hybrid options out there to continue to build and with some extra time involved to learn CAD you can have wood cut from plans and you can build any plane you want and not be limited to what kits are available. That’s a bonus for me. Cheers and thanks for the video
Where do you find the aircraft plans for Lightburn
I hear and understand. Last year, I saw a very large estate sale come up, and bought a LOT of balsa, building materials, engines, tools etc. I literally packed the car TWICE to get it home, and could have bought two more loads. INSTANTLY I had a chance to jump start a hobby I'd had to put aside for nearly 40 years. And I had always been a kit and scratch builder, working from plans.....boy, did this hoard have plans... Now I was astounded at the cost of balsa, and having acquired someone's hoard, I'm back building. I figure I paid maybe $0.10 on the dollar, and wish I'd also bought his C/L planes...many of which went for as little as $20...most were twin engine, so consider that too. AND NOW I nearly had a stroke looking at materials costs. EGAD!!! The other side of this is buying radio gear....I can build a pretty complete 8-channel set for less than $200, and the options for adjustments and programming....jeez. A long time since I'd seen my first R/C model in 1959, with a single TUBE channel and rubber-powered escapement setup. New servos at 3.7 grams, for less than $6 each? Wow. Buy ONE transmitter and program up to how many planes? Mind blown. Long time since I built my ACE R/C four-channel in the 70s.... Another problems is the aging of the hobby. I'm nearly 71, and seeing the youngest guys in most clubs is in their 40s and 50s. Also moribund websites and Facebook pages...if their admins don't get their algorithms in gear, visitors (IF ANY!) will just slide away. Keep 'em coming, and consider may be cutting out semi-kits, if people provide the balsa etc,?
As an aside, I have two new C/L models on the build boards (1/2A and .09), and several kits stashed in the queue. V-1 Bomb anybody? :)
Good information. I was going to go with the laser setup. But I am really comfortable with the Router. So nice having the machine handle the tedious stuff.
Been building since 1978. A lot of companies are gone. Even composite kits are gone. Its a shame. It really hurt when Royal and top flight went away.
@@Airsally I do hope they come back someday. It will be a shame if they don’t. It will probably be someone who has a lot of money and loves the hobby to begin them back. Thanks for commenting Lots of love Brother 💕🛫

@@MrMadtractor If I can do it. Just about everyone can. I just learn everything I can about it, Bye watching videos, or researching it online. On my breaks at work waiting on trucks.
I have a scroll saw . Works good . Balsa planes are more repairable than the arf's

You can do it. Yeah, F4U.
Damn fine color , a cuv of a different color 🎉
On a positive note, Old School model works is growing, he plans to get out 2 new kits a year (I believe) so maybe some hope? I find the hardest things to find are specialized building supplies like covering irons (so I bought a couple recently) and iron on covering also seems to be somewhat limited. A guy at my last club has 3d printed some planes but that and foam does not do all that much for me. I even have some lovely composite gliders, but nothing beats balsa for nostalgia and flying performance (and just fun to build). I hate working with foam and composite when things require modding or repair. Happy to say I wont be paying for AMA or a club going forward as I am fortunate to acquire access to a large piece of land (which sadly is not an option for a lot of modelers).
I have not had any model works plane. I will have to look into them. Covering is get hard to find. And i had not done a lot of composite work. Just fiberglass And molding canopies and molding windows. Thanks for commenting 💕🛫
Thank you for this video and topic. I was heavy into the hobby starting back in the mid 80's and got out of it in 1999 due to life changes. I was fortunate to learn scratch building from plans from Jack Doorman who was a close friend of Dave Platt. I learned a lot from them. It is the only way I like to build aircraft. Speed up to now, I am semi retired and trying to get back into the hobby, I can't believe all the changes and companies that are no longer around our local hobby shop of 54 years is gone. All I see at the flying field are these foam premade crap electric planes. It seems no one likes to build anymore. To me building the aircraft is most of the fun for me. I still have most of all my RC Stuff and a lot of Scale plans. I'm hoping to start back building and flying again after I get a workspace setup. Also looks like drones have created problems for the RC guys, I need to look into it more but now you have to register your model with the FAA ? and have some kinda black box on board ? I used to just go over on the old beach road to fly my planes when the field was closed but not that is no longer aloud. I see our flying field which was an old Navy practice field is now all solar panels. I'm looking for another field to go to but the closest one looks looks like about 35 miles from me. I hope we will still be able to get balsa and ply. Looking forward to seeing your progress on the Corsair.
@@jetcom1121 I think the black box is for drone only. I don’t do it. And I won’t. I mainly get my balsa & ply from National balsa. Balsa USA is in Michigan bye me. But I still get it faster from National balsa. Balsa can take over a week to ship. Thanks for commenting Lots of love to you and yours💕🛫
Large Scale RC airplane models are Dinosaurs. .. period. Long term complex builds involving surprising costs.. and which invariably leave a Debris field on their inevitable 'crashes'. Also Increasingly difficult to find flying sites 🙂 and then there are the FAA size rules . Choose to Follow them or Not. Many long time Airplane modellers end up building Free Flight type stick and tissue models. The Ultimate level in Skills... both in building and flying.

Started in 1976 and miss the way it used to be. Like everything else, it all went to China and here we are. RTF appeals to far more than building even a basic trainer or sport model but sadly most will never know how different and solid a balsa model feels to fly - especially one you built
@@JohnSmith-ue3xm Yes you are right. There’s nothing like flying a plane you built. I meet a lot of people who build a ARF and are afraid to fly them . So they rather sale them for a lost. Then take a chance to fly them. So I try to buy it and see if they want to go fly it with me. And then sale it back to them for the same price. I’ve had some take me up on the offer. And they bought it back. They are just afraid to take it up. Once they is it fly. There in. Same thing with building them. Once you start helping them build one they realize they can do it. I have moved to Norh Dakota and then to Alaska. My wife talked me into moving back to Holly Michigan . I use to live up bye Tawas Michigan. So I don’t talk or see them anymore. Sorry for rambling. I built my first balsa plane in 1968. That led to a career in aviation, but I never gave up the building and RC flying…all the way through 52% self designed planes. I have seen the quality of balsa go down, as we cleaned out the rain forests, and the lack of interest in any real hobbies go away with the younger generations. I switched to restoring a full scale Stearman, and if you think balsa is scarce, try finding aircraft grade spruce! But…in response to your question, I don’t think balsa is being grown as a renewable resource. To me it’s just as fun inventing designs with newer composites.
@@johndurant622 That’s Cool I did buy plans for a Bearhawk 4 Maybe someday I will build it. I know I can, it’s just no space for it and my job doesn’t allow me time for it. So it’s rc planes intel then. Which would be fine if it never happens, I’m okay with it. I been looking at the Balsa USA 1/3 Stearman For a future build (plans). Full scale Stearman . Been in the hobby since 1976. After they started flooding the market with flimsy foamies and the COVID the market was hit hard. Aeroworks is gone Great Planes is gone. I build and fly. I have been at this since 1966. I do mostly large ARFs now but do a lot of repair jobs for folks. I have a huge stash of balsa that I use so I havent bought any in a while. I notice the ARFs use less and less balsa. Looks like obechi. Is there an issue with balsa supply? Seems like spruce is gone. Not a good data point, but at Michaels craft store a package of 4 1/16x3x36 was over $25!!! I remember when a sheet was 35 cents and a Beginners Ringmaster kit was $1.50. I just checked balsa USA. They seem to have plenty, but the prices are eye popping. $2200 for a Stearman kit. Another issue with building is no more covering. Just Ultracoat now.

I’m building a 1/4 scale Citabria and was looking into a covering like this. Glad I found your video✈️
In the last year I finally have the time to consider building balsa planes again. I source my plans from Aerofred or Outerzone and although the plans are free you still have to print them out so there is a cost there. I use a small cnc dremel router to cut out the ribs formers etc, a laser would save a bit more wood. The problem going laser or cnc router is the learning curve to transfer the plans to Cad, then create the toolpaths for the cnc/laser, then finally cut the bits out. The software can be a major cost, it can be done for free or low cost but if you want a "Just works" solution you will pay! I live in New Zealand and getting building supplies is my biggest problem. My nearest hobby shop is 3hrs drive away and they have some balsa, no carbon and no covering material. At least online I can get decent supplies from elsewhere in the country or from overseas but it takes some research to find the best options. I thought in retirement I would have more time for ....... I have been so busy, thats a good thing. Take care, get some air under your wings
@@orphanedphotographer With a Laser you don’t need cad, just lightburn. And there is a learning curve. But I got it pretty much right off. I just load the pdf in the computer and load it in lightburn. You do have to take things out of the print . That’s the only way I can explain it. Set up your cutting paths, speed. And power. Preview it and get your starting point and start cutting. I looked at cnc, much more to it. In the USA we do have a lot more options. I can get balsa at hobby lobby, Michael’s, local hobby store. Which are limited. Or balsa USA , or national balsa online. National balsa is my go to, they have pretty much it all. And have sales all the time. Thanks for commenting Brother Lots of love 💕 🛫

So companies like Horizon tailer to the buyers basically. There are old schoolers out there. I bounced around between foam and foamboars (Flitetest) planes for a while... And last year i became super excited about balsa and balsa building. Trying to share as much of that kind of stuff that i can on my channel. And yeah i dont see Balsa USA going anywhere. One i wonder about is Sig.
@@perkyplanesrc9363 Right Sig I’m not sure what going on there. To be honest I have not been on there site in a year. I would like to see them make a comeback. And I wish they would. They have great rc planes. Thanks for commenting 💕🛫
I miss the variety of kits that we used to have
@@eric_the_av8r Me too Thanks for commenting Brother Lots of love 💕 🛫
Pilot is still around but maybe not kits they are ARFs probably like extreme flight most are sold as soon as the container is unloaded.
@@slange455 Extreme flight are probably the best 3D planes out there. I have never owned one. But I have flown one.( Old friend had one) Prepaying for it. Just to get one. Thanks for commenting 💕🛫
I love balsa built airplanes and have been flying since 1987. I build kits and also very much enjoy scratch building. The hobby has drastically changed for the builders and materials are getting harder to come by. Hobby shops closing are a sad part of this as well. I'm an old skool nitro guy that loves the smell and the mess. I like the odd airplanes but also fly helis.
@@adamdeleon3349 I got into rcplanes around 2010. I’m self taught to fly. And the hobby has changed a lot since then. I love nitro and gas, anymore I almost just have time to build because of work. I’m a paver operator and I go through the pavers in the winter. So I only get 2weeks a year off. And weekend in the winter. So summer time I work 7 days a week 14 to 16 hours a day so not much time to fly or build. I always wanted to get into Helis. Just haven’t. Thanks for commenting Brother Lots of love 💕 🛫
Looks like I'm going to be the club weirdo...I have nitro engines and love 'em. Only a couple of some 170 members use nitro....and I'm going to be the only other C/L flyer at the field. I'm also into R/C, and rubber F/F, so once I show up at the field in kilt and pith helmet the world is gonna change for other members.
@ I started in rc planes in 2010. I was in to dirt bikes before that. My wife asked me to stop dirt bikes. And I did of course. I was really good at riding. I didn’t get hurt. I turned 40 and she didn’t want me riding anymore. So I taught myself to fly rc planes. And it has really changed since then. I will be 55 this year and I will be into flying planes intel I gone. I do have plans for a Bearhawk 4 real plane. I do hope to build it someday. But I can’t whereI live now. Because I don’t have a garage. And I’m not building it in my house. I love building rc planes and flying them. I just do have a lot of time to fly in the summer. I work 14 to 16 hours a day, 7 days a week. So not much time to do anything. Thanks for commenting 💕🛫
I'm late. Life was rough. Finally got into rc planes 5 years ago. Last winter got a small 4 Chanel balsa kit. Wow what a good learning experience. On 2nd one. I self taught on foam. I plan to step up building as my old rear let's me. I think it's as fun as when I was (young) building motorcycles/cars. We'll the mini bikes started it. Everyone enjoy!
@@Craig-m4e I was in to lifted trucks and dirt bikes, Then I got into rc planes. I also self taught Thanks for commenting Lot of Love Brother 💕🛫
