Andrew Walls: What is World Christianity?
I'm trying to get my head around what "decolonising" the curriculum actually means. Does it mean stopping the teaching of the basic classical theological material such as the Apostolic Fathers, Cappadocians etc? I.e. the 'de-' prefix implies that you're removing something, right?
No, not at all. It's about recognising that there is often a discrepancy in whose voices are heard. So if 2/3 of Christians today are in the majority world, how is this reflected in our curriculum of contemporary Christianity?
@CSWCEdinburgh If I were to go back to New College today and embark on a decolonised BD, what would still overlap with what I studied in 1992-95?
3 self movement is NOT nor has it ever been Christianity. It is a Civic religion created by communists to control tge spread and influence of Evangelical Christianity.
Chinese Chrisianity is rapidly shaping communities locally in Princeton, NJ. We are glad to have Chrostian neighbors.

Many thanks Ruth!
Prof. Wall announced/confirmed the collapse of European Christendom in 1969. Also, the 1910 World Missionary Conference was realy not a "world" gathering - it was de facto a refresher gathering of European/American missionaries on furlough with absolutely no one from Africa, South America and one or two from Asia. World Christianity that emerged on the Day of Pentecost - which is far more than Euro-centric Roman Catholic and Reformed denominations - always forgets/excludes most of the ancient Christian traditions, esp. Orthodox heritage.
Very interesting and inspiring. Thank you Brian, Emma and Alex for making this a reality.
Glad you enjoyed it!
So nice to see the graduates talking about the great contribution of the centre in their lives... The building of the centre was changed when I was a student but later it became to see it coming out of non-western to a global Christianity. The most learning time was to come together for seminars and conferences to share what you are in the world as Christian. The legacy of the Church Mission of British was discussed profoundly with best critiques and appreciations. Thank you for this contribution that will stay with me with the rest of my life
The seminars and conferences are such a central part of the life of the Centre. Glad to hear it was a place of both debate and encouragement.
I was studying at the department of Christianity is in non western world when the name was changed as world Christianity. Indeed it is a most understandable name... This university changed my perspactice of thinking, church mission and its continuing struggle. Thank you for giving me understanding the new chapter of the history what share in Pakistan
It is great to hear how important the Centre has been for you, both in thought and in practice.
@@CSWCEdinburgh indeed
thank you all for this insightful and inspiring panel discussion on researching Chinese Christianity.
