How Youtube Saved My Life: After Leaving A Cult (Ex Jehovah's Witness)
Escaping the Jehovah's Witnesses was one of the hardest things I've ever done, but starting a UA-cam channel changed my life in ways I never expected. 🌱
In this video, I share my journey from leaving a high-control religion to finding healing and courage through content creation. It wasn't easy-there were moments of doubt, fear, and taking breaks to work on my inner self.
But with each video I created, I uncovered hidden passions, rebuilt my confidence, and learned to live authentically.
Whether you're an ex-cult member, going through a major life transition, or just looking for some inspiration to be true to yourself, this video is for you. 🙏
I hope my story helps you turn your fear into fuel and start living your truth.

Never leave the truth! That's a Bozo no-no...
There is a God! After I left my family for the truth (they left me is more accurate) four years later, I received my 100-fold - just like Jesus promised. Once my employer found out I was a witness, they tried to manage me out and they lost. Jehovah takes care of his people! Matthew 19:29 GNT And everyone who has left houses, or brothers, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, on account of my name, shall receive a hundred-fold, and inherit eternal life. Also, I was set free from this wicked system! Jehovah frees his people from the hand of the wicked one. Jeremiah 15:20,21 NWT For I am with you, to save you and to deliver you,” is the utterance of Jehovah. 21 “And I will deliver you out of the hand of the bad ones, Never give up on the truth!

We are the Borg....
My dad talked to JW at the house every week until they stopped coming. It must have left them deeply scarred and confused that they couldn't convert him despite trying so hard and then giving up. Poor JW.
So sad that people get caught in this cult. I’m a survivor. Life is wonderful. Don’t waste it on a 2000 year old Shepards almanac
what helped me to wake up in the middle of the pandemic was the bible, it clearly says that we should not trust men, do not follow men, Jesus is the only way, things like that, it was a very confusing time but I made it out. Unfortunately my 20 year old daughter is getting baptized right now, only the youngest got out with me, my husband, my daughter and my oldest son are still trapped in the cult.
Woke up during covid as well at age 49/50. Been struggling to really be my authentic self ...it's been hard to change all of the beliefs drilled into me since the day I was born. Thank you for speaking up about your life....we're not alone
So sad. Proud of you! 😄
I dissociated in 2018 aged 57 ,I now study Evolutionary Biology and Bible Mythology on you tube not in a university, Nicole my beautiful pimi jw wife still loves her Agnostic, Atheist, Evolutionist and Apostate you tubing husband. It,s a balancing act and proof positive that religion doesn't have to break up a marriage if you don't let it. Nicole is regarded as spiritualy weak and soft shunned ,she's scared of being fully shunned. She goes to meetings once a month and field service once a month , so I suppose she,s pomi not pimo or pimi . She's asked me not to talk about evolution and Bible Mythology which absolutely fascinates me ,she's asked me not to mention her in my videos.........Since I've left Jehovah I've been having a devil of a time with Satan and loving it ❤❤❤❤❤
Aubrey, thank you so much for your insights. When I first came across your UA-cam site I was a little busy researching other topics so I placed you on "escaping cults hold" (watch later). After awhile I got back to your amazing video. Thank you for your hard work and dedication. Now I have to catch-up with your other posts. 🐈
Thank you so much for your support. I’m glad you enjoy them 😃
I am just like you
It was never jehovah it’s the crappy people who don’t connect and love you enough ! People are just selfish Jesus and jehovah adore you and have a picture of you on there refrigerator I love you
We are there with you! We totally understand "That "inner work" "self worth and validation"" that all of us former POWs have painfully gone through. Our Heavenly Father and our brother Jesus allowed this and saw us through it all as the needed discipline which followers of Christ must develop. Even Christ learned from his sufferings, and we must drink from that same cup. Our future is AWESOME thru Christ. We look forward to meeting you one day in person. ❤
I like the way you express yourself and would love to be in touch with you, I live in Fremont, California California.
I really liked the way you explained your experience, one of the best if not the best way to explain what you go through when you belong to a cult! Well done!🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Aww thank you so much! ☺️truly glad you enjoyed it 💕
My brother was also approached by a pedophile. Our whole family of 6 bailed out over 30 years on diffrent issues. Some just faded. I still love Jesus and Jehovah or Yahweh and Yeshua. I love them so much.
Ohhhhh this is freaking astonishing & chilling!!! This is the same as every totalitarian regime. For November I keep Rememberence for Victims of Communism (I worked with 2 Ex-Soviets & dated a girls whose whole extended family left the USSR). I was just reviewing Stalin's & Lenin's crimes & watching Mr. Jones (true story of the Holodomor)
Thank you ♥️
Thank you for sharing about the Watchtower Organizations Lies and how they manipulate their members. If the members can't investigate about their own religion then it is their loss. If any organization controls your life then you are the loser!!! I may have lost friends and family members who are still in the cult but I am satisfied in my life that I am not under the control of that BS cult!!! May Our Lord and GOD forgive them for all of their lies!!!
Believing is seeing😊
### Steps to Break Free from Jehovah’s Witness Mind Control 1. **Acknowledge the Conditioning**: - Recognize that you’ve been subject to high-control teachings designed to limit independent thinking and create dependency. - Understand that questioning these teachings is not wrong but a necessary step toward personal freedom. 2. **Educate Yourself About Cult Psychology**: - Learn how high-control groups operate (e.g., thought-stopping techniques, fear of “worldly” influences). - Familiarize yourself with books and resources on cult recovery, such as *Combating Cult Mind Control* by Steven Hassan. 3. **Challenge Black-and-White Thinking**: - Jehovah’s Witness teachings often present the world as entirely good (inside the organization) or bad (outside of it). - Explore nuances and shades of gray, allowing yourself to question and reconsider old beliefs. 4. **Reconnect with Critical Thinking**: - Reassess key doctrines by comparing them to historical and scholarly perspectives. - Practice questioning authority and looking for evidence instead of accepting teachings at face value. 5. **Build a Support Network**: - Seek connections with ex-JWs or others who’ve left high-control groups for mutual support and understanding. - Avoid isolating yourself; find online forums, meetups, or local communities to ease the transition. 6. **Address Emotional Residue**: - Work through feelings of guilt, fear, or anxiety instilled by the organization. - Consider therapy with a counselor experienced in cult recovery to process lingering emotional trauma. 7. **Redefine Your Identity**: - Explore who you are outside the label of "Jehovah’s Witness." - Pursue hobbies, education, or interests you may have set aside due to the organization’s restrictions. 8. **Set Personal Goals**: - Create a vision for your life based on your values and aspirations rather than the organization’s expectations. - Take small, manageable steps toward financial stability, education, or career advancement. 9. **Embrace Healthy Boundaries**: - Recognize that you have the right to protect yourself from manipulative or intrusive behaviors, even from family or former friends. - Politely but firmly distance yourself from conversations or relationships that attempt to draw you back into the organization. 10. **Celebrate Small Wins**: - Breaking free is a gradual process. Celebrate milestones like questioning a belief, forming new friendships, or achieving personal goals. - These victories help build confidence and reinforce your independence. By taking these steps, you can rebuild your life with clarity, confidence, and a renewed sense of personal freedom.
### JW Failure Complex: Key Insights from the video. 1. **Cultivation of Humility and Rejection (46:50 - 48:39)**: - Jehovah’s Witnesses are conditioned to expect and accept rejection during their preaching work. - This repetitive rejection fosters a mindset where failure feels inevitable, creating a "comfort zone" in rejection. 2. **Suppression of Success (41:58 - 44:59)**: - Success is downplayed; achieving results (e.g., bringing many into the faith) is seen as prideful rather than celebrated. - Members are discouraged from sharing their accomplishments, reinforcing a narrative of humility over personal achievement. 3. **Blame and Externalizing Responsibility (50:33 - 53:29)**: - Witnesses often externalize failure, blaming the "system of things," Satan, or societal conditions. - This deflects personal accountability and keeps members reliant on the organization’s guidance, further suppressing self-growth. 4. **Self-Sabotage (53:29 - 55:25)**: - Success is perceived as dangerous, potentially leading to alienation or criticism within the congregation. - Members unconsciously sabotage progress to align with the organization's emphasis on simplicity and modesty. 5. **Dependency on Organization (36:40 - 40:24)**: - Long-term service roles (e.g., Bethel work) often leave members unprepared for real-world challenges. - Many exit the organization with limited skills or financial security, perpetuating a cycle of dependency and failure. 6. **Impact on Mental Health and Confidence (48:39 - 50:33)**: - The constant rejection, coupled with suppressed success, contributes to low self-esteem. - Members feel nervous and unprepared when opportunities for independence or leadership arise outside the organization. 7. **Breaking Free: Opposite Approach (53:29 - 55:25)**: - Jack suggests doing the opposite of what the organization teaches regarding personal and financial growth. - Taking responsibility, building confidence, and pursuing success outside the restrictive mindset can counteract the failure complex. 8. **Reflection on the System's Design (26:44 - 33:27)**: - The organization strategically manages resources and members to maintain control, which unintentionally reinforces a failure complex among members. - Transparency is lacking in financial and operational decisions, leaving members with a skewed understanding of success and failure. These insights reflect how organizational practices and teachings foster a sense of failure while discouraging personal and professional growth, creating a cycle that benefits the institution's structure but can harm individual well-being.
Have you ever heard of the Two Babylons book has a statement in their that when you look at man's Creations magnified up close the flaws are revealed when you look at God's creations magnified the beauty unfolds

I am 67 years old, life disappointment was wasting my life! The first part of my life with being raised as a Jehovahs Witness and believing everything was truth. The second part of my life was researching all the Jehovah's Witnesses doctrine for bible truth. The more thought and years I wasted trying to find bible truth the more doctrine lies were discovered. All Watchtower doctrines are lies and spiritual manipulation. Not one doctrine! I could have been a victim of no blood transfusion which changed my life. Parent packed up and left another state do to threats of taking me away. Then I had no more health issues. Left elementary school do to the blood isssues. Forced to drop out of school because Armageddon was near,1975. Married my pedphile before age 18 because there was no one to date. Teenagers are limit to only dating Jehovahs Witnesses. I never found True Love when it is conditioned. Most young women in 60 and 70 were encouraged to drop out, get married, and pioneer! Basically my life was ruined by this religion and JW mother. Good news, I went to college after leaving this cult!
I’m so sorry to hear that and it is very awful how much they control our lives. But I’m glad that have such a positive attitude even though what we’ve been through! And happy to hear you went to college ❤️
"I don't want to be in an organization where everyone is miserable." As an ex JW, that hit me hard.
Are you call police to rescue you when you in jw just to let you go
What does pimo mean please
Physically In Mentally Out (PIMO)
@@ownup987 thank you. i have a freind who is a jw. i visted her hall several times. and went to a assembly. i will never be a jw. i think she knows that. she says im her only non jw friend. will she be asked to drop me? what can i do?
@grettahoxie4814 it seems like you care for your friend and it’s good you are educating yourself about the religion. As you know JWs have strict rules about association outside the organization. You can ask questions to try to get them to think critically.. but that can get tricky. But the healthiest thing for you is to not have high expectations of your friendship because it’s often conditional. Sadly. But the fact you are their only non JW friend means something and they will remember you for sure. Thanks for your comment ❤️
I think the opposite of fear is acceptance and the opposite of love is judgement
Religious trauma is so so damaging. I have a very unique mindset and I have been able to break free because I have lost everything and everyone I have known more than once and when you learn that you can survive without a abusing control structure and you deserve better you will not accept anything else but what you deserve. I've always had empathy in my heart and I saw that they dont
One thing that's super important, stop using their terms and words they can control you with those terms like worldiy or the truth. Stop it immediately
I woke up 2020.but still side effects of belief is torturing me
Yes those beliefs are still in your subconscious mind. Try asking yourself critical questions and keep watching educational videos to break the indoctrination and make the fear powerless. You can do this. Reach out if you need.
Hey there you happy be Jehovah witness i was Jehovah witness bifor now i don’t go no more lot me now if Jehovah ats true thank you love ❤❤❤
Thanks 😊
You’re very welcome 😉
I understand the fear. I left just before 9/11 😱
You knew the truth. Jehovah’s Witnesses are not a cult. You can tell the world why you get out. Jehovah knew what’s the real deal. Nobody can defeat Jehovah. His faithful believers are getting stronger each day contrary to expectations of the many critics. You have nowhere to go actually, that’s the sad reality.
I'd still follow god and his commandments just because j.w have faults doesn't mean god does....I saw they just showed a man holding the pride flag....don't get it wrong GOD IS NOT ONE TO BE MOCKED...😡
Powerful
Thank you 😊
They look like happy ppl, I kinda want that. Is that wrong? I'm sick of ppl being selfish, only care about sex and money, social media. I want a group of ppl that I can identify with. Right now, I can't identify with ppl around me. And I don't even want to celebrate holidays, they are money driven so fake. Ughhhh, I want to be one of them
Dont worry sis, they will eventually figure out the earth is not flat and all that magic dod not happen. the real problem is, ehen they do, the mental anguish will destroy them.
Video is so well done! Congratulations on walking away from the cult.
Thank you 🙏🏽
Such resonance with this conversation. Thank You for speaking your hearts. You are right Lori; no time to waste moving forward into our authenticity. The physical awakening was at 46 for me. I am 55 now and live in gratitude daily. Sending you both support and LOVE thru the ethers🌬🌈🖖
When I left Jehovah’s Witnesses, my relationship with my family of origin went down the toilet.
It’s never easy - I’m so sorry to hear that 😞 I hope you are healing ❤️🩹
If you leave the organization but never got baptized, your JW parents will treat you as physically out mentally in (POMI). If that happens, file a no-contact order.
“Because we were taught not to be part of the world”, that sounds isolative. That implies that Jehovah’s Witnesses are an isolative religious organization. North Korea is like that.
Plus, calling everyone Sister or Brother! Now you just stripped them of their name!
f jw s a cult then who n what are you then????
Some good & fairly accurate observations. Unfortunate, because at heart , most JWS are decent people that have been dumbed down & gaslit over decades by this mantra: The first law is ,Thou shalt not. The second law is ,The first law does not exist & The third law is, There shall be no discussion of the second law. Acts: 17:11 shows the Beroeans were commended for checking things out & Paul in Romans 12:1 encourages the use of "YOUR" power of reason , Proverbs , 14:15 ,The shrewd one does not put faith in EVERY word.
you could add to the Group speak, New speak versus Old speak, double speak. etc. New light , extra new light , extra special new light, extra new light where the light bulb itself wants to get baptized , gas light, Pavlovian responses , carrot & stick manipulation. BUT, in latter years they have been improving , even if its two steps forward one step back. !
thats the thing, i get so mad when i think about what the organization really did to my brain growing up, but then i actually remember that i did love all the people i was surrounded by, and they did love me too. no point demonizing individuals just because theyre misled
