Alt #3 130 bpm
-i recorded this before going on vacation
-a little mess up in the middle but don't mind that
-i recorded a rep before this and I saw that my heights were not good
-heights between my inner and outters were not good and also constant heights with repeating inners were not good
-this reo i focused on trying to make my heights consistent
-i think that the inners were quite good but the outters can still raise up higher to match inners (more wrist)
-i like how relaxed my hands look now compared to before
-this was one of my focuses during this rep as well as consistent heights
(edit)
-I need to focus on keeping consistent velocities between each mallet in order to maintain even sound quality and have not one mallet (4) accent

Pizza Pie - right hand blocks look a little off - inner mallets quiet - Need to balance with outer mallets, so bring out/emphasize - outter mallets look like they "wobble" when hitting keys - make sure hit the center of the keys and not the sides where the mallet can bounce off weirdly - can be looser with hands, try not to tense up when changing between 16th and 6lets Pizza Bites - make sure f...

- I haven't posted anything that has higher tempos than like 120 💀 - stay relaxed through out the whole thing, my hands definitely look tense to my eyes - keep heights consistent - especially with the repeating inners, they tend to go down when doing more than one repeating inner hit don't mind the last note thanks jailyn for board 🙏

-heights are like weird across both hands, make every mallet go up to the same height -all heights can generally be higher imo -left hand doing the little finger thing so stop (firm up back fingers just a tad and focus on wrist motions) -it looks like I'm pushing down with thumb, but I don't really feel it so just fiddle/experiment with it more (this video is not a "final run/take" of my exerci...

eighth notes blocks, alt out in, alt coda variation, broccoli, sextuplet 123234, rocking triple laterals, Triplet blocks (this video is not a "final run/take" of my exercises and it's not meant to be perfect but more for me to look back on so that's why it's so scuffed.) -right hand block can be more even in heights, inner mallet slightly higher than outter -alternating variations, could be hig...

-inners can still be low for alternating -don't use so much arm yk, like make your hands look good. idk how to explain in words but I know in my mind -keep heights consistent and the same between both hands, especially on alternating strokes -stay loose but firm so that outers don't flop but also aren't rigid -dont use back fingers to create velocity, stay firm -keep outers level with inners fo...
alternating #3 A/B mix (again) 110 bpm, w/ 8th note breakdown
Переглядів 1777 місяців тому
-left inner could stay lower to match the right hand inner when going up -better playing zones, especially with the outer mallets (tend to bend arms/wrists (?) inwards, making mallet heads angled instead of flat) -when going down keep inner low like going up when not playing -no need to stack for the little runs -keep inner mallet height consistent when going down
pizza, normal variation 105 bpm

-sped up a lot in the beginning -subdivide and keep even 16th/dotted 8th notes -have inner mallet speak out more on lateral motions (outter mallet too strong) -keep consistent dotted 8th in block hands

12/9/23 oof. (ft. dropped sticks)
messing around with alternating at fast tempos
Переглядів 1928 місяців тому
-fast tempo is very fast -tensing up when going faster so calm down -inners could be higher I feel like, maybe being looser will help -sound quality/even-ness between each note -pulse -listen to met (although there was a lot of background noise)
Alternating #3 (110 bpm) IMPROVEMENT
Переглядів 40610 місяців тому
-improvements -isolations are better -overall looks more better -could use a little more looseness and arm in both hands, especially left -I'm cheating a Lil bit with the outers, using more finger than wrist -inners could still be lower when outers are playing overall I think I look better -thesis clinics 🫡🫡🫡🫡

-alternating exercises -pizza -I need to work on my heights when doing alternating exercise (the heights from my inners to outters and from hand to hand are not consistent) -when outters/inners are playing inners/outters should be lower to the board, especially inners -down stroking -for lateral motion outers are having a little prep before going down -instead of going straight down from the pl...

You should learn the version transcribed by Griffin8er, it has both marimba parts put togeather so its a little bit harder but you can do it because i did. I decided to learn the garden for solo ensemble with 2 months left which was a bad idea but i managed to get down the whole thing. Except for those ninelets at the end that was super hard but keep up the good work its definetly possible you posted this 4 months ago so id imagine youve progressed alot since then

Good stuff bro. I just wanna point out to be careful about how you’re playing. I notice in the video that your pointer fingers are curled in a lot. This is bad as it tells me that you are tense which is a no no when you’re playing marimba. So make sure your pointer fingers point outward (When doing it right, you are able to touch your fingertips together when you put your hands together). Another thing is your thumb, when you did that large interval at the end, you put your thumb on the side of the shaft. It’s okay to cheat once in a while if you’re SCV and you’re playing sixteenth notes in octaves, but you should aim for keeping that thumb on top of the mallet shaft the whole time. This will allow for better control when playing. I would suggest reading “Method of Movement” by Leigh Howard Stevens. It is a book about Stevens grip. I hope this helps. Keep it up!

Thanks a lot for the tips! I've gotten better since this video but this really helps 👍

    • @henwill8
      @henwill8 10 місяців тому

Well even if your playing 16th note octave runs, if you bring the butt off the inside mallet to the webbing between your fingers you should never have to "cheat" as it is just a lot more stable
