hi craig im not sure if your remember but i approached you while you were training another driver a few months ago. i tried applying with metroline and they hold me that having a license for a year is necessary, but i remember you saying it doesn't what can i do now
Hi the minimum driving experience required is a year as far as I know. It used to be 2 years at other companies.
Very interested in training to be either an instructor or assessor.
If you need any advice just ask.
Remember with any teaching it must be structured. Ambiguous training puts the emphasis on the trainee to make sense of unclear instructions leaves them doubting what they need to be doing. No " nick a bit of road" ....To me a bit could be a few inches or a few feet. Tell them how much road to occupy. And remember the three stages of learning are didactic, socratic and facilitative and know which one you need to use at any given time. Don't over instruct or under instruct although we are all human and make this mistake. So as much as you monitor the trainee, monitor yourself also to see if you are making mistakes when teaching.
Top guy ,with your very informative videos just passed my module 3 and practical test
Thank you so much for the kind comments. Where did you pass?
Point of turn - of vehicles, mostly or if not all. Is the REAR tyres/wheels/ axle. It to be like the pivot point.
Yes exactly. I was just explaining how on a Tri Axle it pivots at the first rear axle and not the second axle which steers in the opposite direction. Where do you drive ?
Hello Craig You were just at a restaurant in Barcelona and you left a cane here. Feel free to come back and collect it anytime.
Hi thanks I will collect it tomorrow 😁
Hi Craig, Was on a bus training programme for an operator. All very nice passed the initial assessment day. After waiting six weeks for a provisional license received a letter telling me one had ticked a learning disability?? This caused much hoo har but eventually got sorted out again after six weeks or so. Then told it would be another six weeks before the course intro by the hr department. Again not too much of a problem but some anxiety and tension from the mysterious medical ticked box. Anyway passed the theory and then two weeks ago took the driver check after some 10-12 hours on the road. Was told by the examiner I was being removed from the course? Now, thought my drive was nearly there, a few things to work on nothing really, hitting kerbs, jumping lights etc. Spoke to a private PCV course operator and also told them which they said was not uncommon to happen. Surely the company should allot more time to the training instead of being showed the door after six months of waiting. Just seems very cloak and dagger to me personally.
Hi it's complicated and sadly the business isn't compassionate. When the companies are really desperate they will go to four tests and 80 hours. ( I've had a fourth time pass and 80 hours on the road ) At other times when the training school is full they tend to "process" applications more strictly. My advice is work on your driving, even when you're driving your car drive it to the same test standard ( otherwise you will start to get slack again ) and perhaps do some private lessons while waiting to get the call from another bus company to finish your training and get a job with them. I'll be honest and say it's becoming more of an issue that we get people who really don't know how much effort you have to invest in your own personal discipline and training. It's not just a case that everyone passes. It's a professional qualification to drive people's family around although you wouldn't think it looking at the standard once bus drivers get a few months of experience under their belt. Never use the vehicle like a weapon. Hope you enjoyed the videos ?
Very sad that someone resigns their job and hopes to embark on a bus driving career only to be terminated and left unemployed. But honestly trainees seem to have no idea how much is involved. If they told you that in the beginning perhaps nobody would take the risk and apply ?
@DrivingPsychology Thanks for reaching out. Appreciate your feedback.
I was 18 when I started and my instructor was brilliant. I accepted that I was almost always going to be wrong but aimed for perfection. Brian Schull, former SR71 Blackbird pilot explains how your attitude in life is more important than education or qualifications.

Great video Craig. Thank you
My pleasure Maggie 🙂
This is fulwell bus training centre. The bus driving exam is taken from here last 1 hour.Give your passengers a safe comfortable ride and check your mirrors every 2 seconds from left to right and it is important to know your vehicle size 8ft wide and length 33ft,height 14ft 6inch.And if get serious or dangerous fault you fail the exam.Good luck.
Yes that was the best training bus you could ever hope for 👍 2015.
You taught this very well and it's something I am currently working on (not driving so close to the pavement). I wish you were my instructor
Thanks where are you learning?
@DrivingPsychology I practiced with NDC in Croydon. Wasn't the best experience but I managed to pass
@@josiahvalentine6326 Sorry to hear it wasn't the best. Did you get a job with Go Ahead then since they are the big company down there? Apparently their pay is the best in London. Thanks for watching my videos. I'll do some more again I'm just a bit tied up right now 👍
@DrivingPsychology I got a job with Go-Ahead fastrack in Kent. They recently took over the contract from Arriva. But yes London pays better. Don't worry, upload when you can 🙂
Really good instructor
Thanks where you learning?
Very clear and nicest explanation. Thank u.🎉❤❤❤
You are welcome 😊

You're welcome! 😀
Very useful and valid training, thank you Craig!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Hi, I have just cat B on my licence, when I pass cat D, I will receive any other category on my licence?

I've been a PCV driving instructor for 3 weeks, and just had my first 3 passes. What a buzz!!! I totally agree with everything you say, in fact, I have to admit, I've been watching your videos for hints and tips. I love driving, and having the privilege of being allowed to drive a bus is special, in my opinion. Thank you. The look on their faces when they passed will live with me for the rest of my life. It is a great job, isn't it?
Totally agree!
Where are you instructing?.
I work in Scotland. In the central belt, there are a lot of different types of roads. On one route, we're basically driving on nothing more than a farm track.
I have been driving for 20 years the buses and would love to become a driving instructor
@@zaraparadise Where do you drive ? Are my instructor videos helpful?
Why couldn’t the driver use more of the space on the left and make it more of a straight line?
If you look carefully there is a coach next to where I was filming. I tried not to get it in the shot but you can see it's black mirror. If the Acklams driver went any more forward he wouldn't make it into the corner. It really is that tight for us...
I have just become a training driving instructor after 30 years served as a bus driver,do you have any advice...
Hi yes. Always remember how hard it was when you first got behind the wheel and the bus didn't do what you wanted it to do until you learned the techniques. Treat trainees with respect. Inspire them with your professionalism and your appearance. Watch my videos about the technical aspects of the job. The Tom and Jerry syndrome, the Cruise Ship Technique and the how position is always more valuable than speed.
Who do you work for?

Great instructions 👍🏿👍🏿
Thanks 👍
Sir may I know how to judge the left and right side of the vehicle kindly make a video on that
Hi well use the mirrors to see how far to the left and right you are within your lane. Remember your head is much higher and further to the right than when you are driving a car.
But ultimately it is down to peripheral vision and knowing where the left and right of the bus is while you are looking straight ahead.
I have my bus driving test tomorrow. Passed my reverse parking yesterday. Thanks for the tip
Thanks please share the videos to help grow the channel. Where are you learning?
Thank you very much for this explanation 👍👍👍👍
Thanks for the comment. Which company are you training with?
@DrivingPsychology Arriva, something you said really helped me. I'm looking for tips on how to steer without having to constantly prevent the bus from pulling to the left.
@@Skyblue2424-b5k The camber of the road will pull the bus to the left. Also your heads position in space means that you will default to what you recognise from driving a car. Meaning your head will tell you that you need to go back to the left. Just imagine driving your car with the passenger door wide open to get the idea?
@@Skyblue2424-b5k Can you please share with all the trainees at arriva to help grow my channel? Thanks.
@DrivingPsychology Thank you for this advice. I will try this Monday. My driving test is approaching fast. I will share your channel🙂👍
Thank you for the explaination! Can be useful for me in 2 years time for me hopefully 🙏🏾
Are you planning to become a bus driver?
@@DrivingPsychology Correct!
Thanks for your videos, It gave me many tips and techniques to pass my bus driving test. As I needed to work on mirrors, my forward planning and awareness. I did it. Many thanks 😂
I'm glad it helped. Where are you driving? London?

straddle or double steer
Where are you learning to drive?
Tremendous stuff. Its a real benefit to listen to someone who knows bus driving and how to train learner drivers. Thank you Craig !
Thanks Chris please keep us informed as to how you do...
I really want to pay heartfelt thanks to Craig for his content. I wasn't put forward for a driving test at the end of my 25 hours of training with a national bus company. I experienced several of the instructor/student issues described in this video. Craig's content has helped give me the perspective and context to apply to another bus company to complete my bus driver training. So muchos gracias Craig, if karma is money you're a wealthy person.
Roundabout are sometimes a nightmare when people don’t signal or use wrong signal or people over speed.large Roundabouts should always be controlled by traffic lights.
Where are you learning? Please share the videos 🙂
Really valuable lessons. Thank you Craig !
I am a woman bus driver. On tight corner it is important to steer as slowly as possible and not to oversteer when you turn the bus from a side road into a main road, if there is no one coming from both sides you go as forward as you can possible then you steer but not too much and then you straighten, as well as this it is tricky at round abouts because when you go right you have to constantly avoid the hitting the round about just keep it steady but not too fast....generally it is easy to avoid kerbs if you also steer when your front wheels are past the turning point into the roads....tips are always welcome
Where do you drive buses? 🙂
Hello Craig I have my practical driving test tomorrow morning any hints and tips for me
Remember its only a driving test and you're driving for yourself not the examiner.
You’ve got a great way of delivering information, looking forward to watching more of your content! I’m starting my training as a PCV driver for national Express soon, my long term aim is to be a PCV instructor.
Thanks please keep in touch I'm happy to discuss 👍
Craig, just been watching your video on the driving line. You say you may need to signal if going overhead white line in the middle of the road. Do you need to indicate every time you cross the white line? Where is this written down?
No not every time. Once you have started filtering use your position and speed to make it obvious what you are doing. But if you go a long way before moving out again treat it as a new situation.
Thank you🫡
You’re welcome 😊
I have my module 3 and practical test this friday and this has helped a lot. Thanks

Hello Craig just wanted to ask where you work and do you have any trainee jobs going?
Hi Mark I work for a London bus Operator. There are always driver jobs going at TfL operators. It's a non stop revolving door-conveyor belt ! 🙂
Basically Metroline in NW London.
Hi Craig is thanks for your reply. Can I ask would there be a possibility of me meeting with you. For you to assess my driving ability?
@@markgarwood-cc5vo Hi best to email me at captainboeing777300er@googlemail.com I don't teach privately but any advice i can offer is free. If you film yourself driving i can assess it. Don't worry about the accuracy as ill be listening to the engine, gear change points, and as long as the video is clear i can see where you are looking and get into your head to see what you are thinking. Just like a singer sends in an audition tape, as long as it is clear, it can be a very tool useful.
Hi Craig thanks for this. I'll see what I can do.
Thank you, starting my new driving job tomorrow and getting some more tips. Much appreciated 🙏🏼
Hi Hannah where do you start driving? Is it a UK bus operator?
