The Middletown Historical Society was founded in 1966 to preserve and document the history of Middletown, Ohio. The Society operates two museums: the Canal Museum presents exhibits and artifacts from the Miami & Erie Canal which began in Middletown in 1825, and the Shartle House which houses several exhibits about Middletown's founders, industry, businesses and citizens.
History of Sorg's Opera House
Sorg's Opera House has been the home for entertainment and culture in Middletown, Ohio since 1891. Built for the community by industrialist Paul J. Sorg, the opera house has witnessed the evolution of American popular entertainment from live traveling shows to motion pictures.

The Armco Ambulance Corps in World War I

In 1917 the American Rolling Mill Company (later Armco), of Middletown, Ohio, made a unique contribution to the Allied war effort during the Great War (World War I) in Europe. The company agreed to send 15 employees to France to serve with the French Army as an independent ambulance corps.

MIA POW is the story of two brothers from Middletown, Ohio who served in the Army Air Corp during World War II. Dan Corson piloted the B-17 Danellen, shot down in France on December 20, 1942. Only the tail gunner survived. Six months later Bill Corson, a bombardier on the B-17 Golden Bear, was shot down in Germany. Bill was captured and served out the rest of the war in Stalag Luft III.
