Reading Camshaft and Crankshaft signals using an Oscilloscope!
In this video I walk you through the actual process of retrieving a waveform. It is obvious that you need to check the cam and crank sensor.. though it is not always so obvious WHERE you are going to pull those signals from when you are a flat rate mechanic! I try to give you the tips that help me get to the reading as quickly and efficiently as possible.
I mentioned the free wiring diagram resource, if you have any requests for particular information, leave a comment below!

A great way to test a car battery! Pico 4425A Diagnostics

In this video I demonstrate how to use an oscilloscope to generate a comprehensive starting & charging system test. The oscilloscope used is a Pico 4425A. This is the beginning of my journey with UA-cam. I will be making a lot more helpful videos.

    Hi, I'm using Launch x431 creader elite v2.0 and it has CMP no pulse and CMP noise, I saw some intermitten no pulse at value 4-5 at CMP B. Is it possible to figure out if the CMP B sensor is bad with those? Thanks!

    • @TheCarDoctoreth
      @TheCarDoctoreth 10 днів тому

      It's not possible unless you can swap the sensor with another. I don't believe what you have is an oscilloscope.

    • @TheCarDoctoreth

      You may be able to swap with another cam sensor on the engine if they're similar

      @@TheCarDoctoreth that's what I'm thinking that I can do. It updates the value every second and that's it, no think like yours. So, CMP no pulse value can be part of the design?

    Thanks for this excellent video. For those of us with right-hand drive vehicles, access is more difficult because the brake master cylinder and reservoir are located on the same side as the alternator. I had to remove the intercooler (and cover), the heat shield over the exhaust manifold and the rear intercooler bracket. I also removed both nuts holding the brake fluid reservoir to the bulkhead so that I could move that around as needed. That gave me just enough room to get the alternator past but it was very tight and a lot of wiggling / rotation was needed. Also, if you are a clumsy oaf like me and you pull the small wires out of the back of the connector while trying to remove it, the grey wire goes at the top with the blue one below. If you are lucky, the wires will push back in and still make a connection. I used a ring spanner on the tensioner with a breaker bar as a lever between the back of the engine and the spanner. I then tied a rope around the breaker bar to hold it in place.

    been a wrench and shop owner 45 yrs. No disrespect but every video I watch about scope use never gets into basic adjustments of the scope itself, how to actually do it.😢 It's always assumed we already know how to make adjustments. I have a 2 channel snap-on scope . A lot of times I can't even get a pattern to show up. Usually I end up load testing the ckt. between sensor and pcm, if wiring checks out good, then I figure it's either the sensor or pcm, since sensors are usually pretty cheap I put a new one on. Most times that fixes problem. There I said what a lot of us end up doing. Back before scopes that's how we all did it. Guy's would probably use scopes more if trained properly. I've watched a ton of videos and have yet to find one that slows the roll and explains basic scope functions and adjustments! I am trainable, the US navy taught me how to operate nuclear reactor on submarine. If any body out there can teach me I'd be a willing student😅

      No disrespect to you Brother and the 1st Reply, this is the first time I have seen this channel and I would not expect a technician channel, I have not looked around so just off the cuff here, but I would expect a DIY or low level mechanic channel to teach the basics and not a higher level Tech or Diag Channel. DAMN, I just looked closer at the channel and its dead, but I stick with my level of training based on the level of the channel, cheers. Check out the Teacher ScannerDanner for some guidance when it come to learning at different levels. I dont follow DIY and I was a trained Electronics Tech on TVs and Stereos, etc right out of High School with the use of a scope in the early 80s.
