As I explain to Isaac how to play a VHS tape of Wallace and Gromit, I hear something stirring downstairs. I venture down there to find out what it is.

Should have did the video on a sunny day instead of it being all cloudy and look like it's going to rain
I have lived here in Michigan since 1971 I have family down in Detroit I never knew that was down there and no one has ever said anything about it all the time I was growing up
Beautiful homes, but oh I can imagine all the mildew.
Fancy wasteland
Some narrative would have been nice to understand what we're seeing
Were these canals originally built for shipping? Because they are really quite wide - wide enough for cargo boats. Fascinating ... would the city be responsible for maintenance or the state of Michigan?
My dad was from the Eastside down in this area he showed us these 20 years ago. Dope to see from the water view
Looking at the yards i didn't see many gardens. Mannnnnn, The sheer amount of food I would be growing in the backyard is insane. I know that soil is good and rich, doesn't need watering often and even when it does the water source is right there....
Thanks for showing a side of Detroit that I haven't seen. Love from Chicago
I bet that whole area is infested with rats...
Vote blue and your town can look like this . Nice
Detroit is one of the best through red and blue times. It’s not the color that matters in Detroit, it’s the attitude.
that was great ............ thanks
I live off a canal in Elizabeth Park in Trenton, fun to kayak.
How fantastic it would be to buy and make it a dream home.
Amerucca israaldestroying other countrues and neglecting it's own!
Very Nice!
Great Video
"Uh oh!" "Out of gas." Definitely, not what you want to hear when you're in a large body of water.
@@chazw3x ha, I know. Turned out we were not out of gas. Just had weeds clogging the propeller. Regardless, if we had been out of gas, our experience and reliable captain had a backup tank, oars, etc. Thanks for spending the time to watch our entire journey to the end. :).
I wouldn't necessarily want to move to Detroit but I did live there the canal would be a cool place to live for easy access to the river.
Why is this so beautiful and depressing at the same time 🫤
Very peaceful and Beautiful. The Bridge had me feeling a little nervous for your well-being, nice job navigating.
I was hoping for instructions. Lol
Live in Detroit all my life never knew this was here
I know this area very well I use to fish around this area.
"Out of gas"
No trespassing
This is exactly how Columbus found us, so they say get out of there😮
@@kevindriver6295 you give too much credit to Columbus
Mosquitos and turtles and duck sh*t.
@@zipperpillow I didn’t see any of that sh*t. Maybe a couple of ducks but not their sh*t. ;)
@@aarontimlin9226 Look closer. I love that people are celebrating a ditch, like it's a hidden wilderness, when it is clearly a toilet. And the comments about kayaking it...what next, hiking a landfill? or treasure-hunting in a dumpster? Finding adventures in your own backyard is fun, but very often other people come along and ruin it. The beauty of this float is that it is already ruined and has nowhere to go but up.
@@zipperpillow This sounds personal with a sprinkle of racism. If you don't know the story or don't like the story close the book and keep your hate to yourself.
@ beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Your eyes just need bifocals. 🤓
@@aarontimlin9226 I'd almost rather be blind. If it were up to you, landfills would be opened as playgrounds. Maybe yours was. Slime-filled Algae blooms don't count as green belts.
No one in Detroit really knew about this because it is basically right on the border of Southeast Detroit and Grosse Pointe Park. Awesome video! You definitely showed me something new!
Now wasn't that a fun little adventure!! Best vid I've seen on YT in months! I kinda felt a little like Huck Finn riding along with you!!! Very cool Guys!! Subbed!
@@allenwayne2033 what a great comment! Thank you!
I'd redevelop it all with condo towers and call it a boaters paradise sure to be the next Miami .
It looks putrid.
ever heard of "no wake" zone. you got boats tied up, its no wake, common sense.
The Gardian Angels used to meet on those canals.
I almost bought a house right there and tore it down to build a new one. This made me change my mind. Im just going to keep the beautiful lake house i already live in.
Detroit is home. Use to live there. Live on West Michigan now.
How do the big boats get out of there
@@dameinmalone7480 there is a fork in the canal. We came up one way where the larger boats go to and from the Detroit River and Lake St Clair. However, on our way back (which this video covers) we took a different way which is when we ran into what we thought might be a dead end for us, but merely turned out to be another part of our adventure further; ducking beneath that low bridge and scraping the top of the motor in the process. ;).
Absolute fabulous video unfortunately you gave away my crappie spot lol
@@markgriffey5435 crappie? If it is your spot and it gives you joy, that’s all that matters. who am I or anyone else to judge. :). You are blessed to have such a spot. I would say I envy you, but that’s a sin. ;). Perhaps next time we can stop by for a visit. Thanks for the comment and for watching the video.
Some of those with the houses going right to the water are crazy. I can picture Mobsters hanging out and escaping by the water. The nostalgia in this video is off the chain. So the city isn't required to maintain their canal walls. They should be required to do so like they are a city street. This is a form of transportation
That’s where Alter Road turns into Riverside Boulevard
Probably 100s of unsolved cases and dead bodys from the 80s and 90s are in those canals guaranteed..especially in Detroit.
Yup!
Jimmy Hoffa's body may be in there and they don't know it
Hopefully you'll do a salt mine tour and really blow viewer's minds (but no boats allowed!)
@@BillMyers-gr2vh great idea! I’ll work on that. I’m sure I know someone who knows someone.
Great footage. At 19:40 I had to subscribe. Yep
@@theodoretaylor5228 LOL. 😆 thank you! Yeah, I smile every time I watch that part. A couple of old friends acting like kids again.
I'm from Detroit and I've only seen this in Saint Clair shores
I’m a city girl but only ever saw the canals from land view. This was an experience, thanks for sharing!
Are you guys by Alter Rd?
Thanks for the boat ride, and very interesting video.
Thx!
Beautiful
Shoulda moved their big butts aft to lower the engine.
