Our 12 tamariki were born in Sydney. When the eldest came home from his first day at Kura he asked me what a Maori was. I said pointing to my ears, "On this side is yes, and on this side is no. In the middle is the boot in the head." We both laughed because we know what this means from experience. I explained to him that a Maori is a 'no buts' falla. He came out of Sunday School when he was 8 and said to me, "I know who the boot in the head is dad, the Godhead." Teach tamariki why thinking in absolute terms matters. Our eldest taught his younger siblings. They understand the same things on the same basis. They can be in a crowd and have a private conversation. According to the Bible, thinking is the first act of worship.
Beautiful, i remember this feeling growing up and going to the marae i felt his explaination is exactly how it felt on the marae when it comes to whanaungatanga

Powerful. 🦋💕
So inspiring 🙏
Teach philosophy
Based upon the absolute moral categories system of the Bible.
Our tamariki were born and raised in Sydney. When the oldest started kura, people sometimes called him a Maori. He asked me, "What's a Maori dad?" I said, "Look at me kanohi to kanohi boy, on this side is yes, and on this side is no, and in the middle is the Boot in the head." He got it at 5 years of age. When he was 10, he said one Sunday after church, "God is a no buts' God aye dad." I replied, "He made everyone the same boy, that's what the sky is up for everyone. If people don't know this, life is a never ending conflict, because they start with what thinking can or has done, but not thinking itself." We think we do. The thinking component needs to be understood. Only the Bible explains this possibility. Their are two basic philosophic questions, the 'metaphysical' necessity, the question of being, or existence, and the 'Moral' necessity, the question of knowing and 'personality'. These are the questions that our 12 tamariki and their cousins in Sydney grew familiar with throughout the years. When one looks at the Poutokomanawa on the marae atea, one knows with absolute certainty, that these people were real. Either side is a choice. The middle is certainty. We live in a postmodern post-christian world today. In the middle is a vacant lot. Yes and no, equals yeah but. This is a disaster for Maori, but not the end. Our cultural expression is deeply rooted in an absolute reasoning process. We just went to school and learned to think about it in a new way and got temporarily lost. It's just a flick of the switch for Maori. For other cultures, a miracle of biblical proportions is required. God bless you fallas on your hikoi.
