Baking High Poly to Low Poly in Marmoset Toolbag 4
In my most recent video I was asked how I get the detail from the high poly mesh to the low poly so this video I show my process on how I do it in Marmoset Toolbag 4. Bear with how I try and explain things I am still new to making videos and talking in the mic xD.

Stylized Wood Retopology Time-Lapse In Maya

Hello in this time-lapse I am making a low poly from the high poly model which is known as retopology. I want to make it clear that I am not a professional I am using everything that I have learned from mentors, school, and tutorials in this process. I could spend hours trying to improve on it but I decided to just keep on going and it is good enough for what I want. Also the top part of the ro...

Great work, but for object that do not need any time of deformation, should be a more quick method to do this , I can not imagine me spend a whole day to retopology a piece of wood. Thanks for the video, apreciated

I use Marmoset toolbag to bake the detail onto the low poly so it still looks super detailed but instead of millions of polygons it’s only 700ish

You don't need to do a course but you do need a good portfolio. You need to apply everywhere. Don't worry if you are qualified. However join a mod team and get a bunch of projects under your belt. Since you have no experience, no one will hire you if you haven't worked on a team. If you have a bunch of mods under your belt, it shows that you can work in a team and deliver. Portfolio doesn't show that and only shows what you can produce at school.

(I did not ment this to be a "trauma dump". Just wanted to share my experiences. I'm glad I'm not alone and i felt like saying my story ) I just feel so dirty with this. I'm from Portugal, my skills are really low, I went to a "art" program at a University and ended up getting drawing and 2d animation classes to be the worst classes I ever had. The teachers weren't it, the all thing wasn't it. Covid hit and I passed 1 year , was hyped over the second year for the drawing and animation in 2d so I could LEARN but ended up graduating after 3 years and 10k out of my pocket without learning anything on what I wanted. Just over-worked and over-stressed. Like you mentioned in your video I also had way too many subjects and wasn't able to absorb or learn. Was just do this and do that. I feel like I didn't go nowhere and waisted money for nothing. I picked up my digital pen last week and I got so much to learn and I am so scared. It's like going to Uni all over again but alone. If I knew how it would go I wouldn't go to art school and take online classes.

Can I ask a question? Let's say I don't want to go to art school. I know it's economically not a good idea no matter how you slice it. It sounds fun but ultimately it wouldn't suit my situation very nicely. (not to mention, let's be real for a second. Most.. young art students have this.. thing where they only see their own traumas? I don't wanna turn into the sponge where they dump their aggression onto because I'm the closest that exists next to them because of it. I guess.) Where can middle aged guy with trauma go to show off their work and potentially create connections without being exploited? I think.. an art gallery wants to show me. But those are ultimately temporary. I guess I'm just trying to dig a well for my story / perspective.

Well put! There's a correlation to my experience too. I studied mechanical engineering but tried to get into a career in programming/CS in my final years. Because of this, I had to work my free time outside of class and learn how to look at myself as a business and put myself in the employers' shoes to get whatever job I needed. Even my CS minor couldn't compete with my own personal projects which is how I got into game design. Thanks for sharing your experience.

Yea just listening to your experience about the Art Institute made me really glad not to go there. I ended up choosing to go to Full Sail, as it was about 2 hrs from my family and it had much much better opinions from others than the Art Institute. I'm legit learning more than I ever thought here at FS, I do see lots of criticism from people though that the professors here at fs dont help, or dont do this, etc. and from what I've experienced here its nothing like that, and its actually them not taking advantage of the resources and opportunities provided, also their lack of ability to be able to network and communicate (an extremely high amount of people here like that, they love bringing outside drama into stuff too to create drama between students). But the teachers here are awesome and range from ex. students returning in between jobs or even industry vets that came back to teach what they know, I had one of the animators that worked on Lilo and Stich as one of my professors. One the things Full Sail is big on is networking, so they always have some panel event of alumni or other industy professionals coming in. I personally have no problems with Full Sail, while others may. Sry for my rant about FS, but I personally think the biggest thing about if you decide to go to art school is to get the most out of it as you can by networking, developing your skills, develop soft skills for a professional setting as well as hard skills. From my experiences so far networking with alumni and other students is crucial and an important skill to learn, and also fun as you meet new people with different and maybe similar experiences as you. Also if you do decide to go to art school, be dedicated and determined to learning and developing your craft, more than half of my class has already dropped out because either financial issues (cant blame them there, shit happens), but also many of them because they just didn't try and they kept producing bad work and failed numerous classes even with retakes. If you truly want to pursue this career path, then be dedicated to learning, dont try to just coast and see what happens, cause that isn't gonna work if you want to work in an industry like this. Sorry for the long rant Micheal 😅

Yeah, AI was pretty lousy. I had a few really great teachers that I enjoyed learning under, but there were a majority that were really awful. I wish I hadn't gone to that school. Would've saved me so much money and I could've just learned everything that I know now via the internet. The social creative environment was incredible though, and it's something I seek everywhere I go. Hard to replicate, unfortunately, but that was the best thing that came from AI.
