I have a collection of pedals, mostly older “vintage” ones. They’re all great in their own way, from a practical standpoint. My favorites are my Yamahas, especially the single and double versions of the FP 860. They’re very solid and smooth, and they just do anything I need. I’ve tried other, more modern and advanced ones, but I always come back to the 860s. The thing about Yamahas is that they have a consistent feel from model to model, so it’s pretty easy to adjust a newer one so it feels familiar. The newest ones like yours are really nice. ( I like the chain drive ones), but they’re priced a bit out of my league for now.

I became fanatic about hitting dead center on a 20" bass drum and initially tried a bass drum riser but didn't like that because the beater hits the head when it is beyond a 90 degree angle which felt weird. Then I discovered the Tama HP50 and the Rogers dynomatic which both allow better solutions to playing on different size bass drums instead of raising or lowering the length of the beater. I first bought the Tama about a year ago because frankly it was cheaper. One problem mine had is there was a lot of wobble where the heal plate connects to the footboard. This caused some side to side energy in addition to the normal up and down energy when using the pedal. I couldn't find anyone else that seemed to have that problem. Maybe I am just OCD. I contacted Tama and they didn't have a solution. I ended up making a plastic washer by cutting up a peanut can plastic lid and put that inside the right side of where the footboard connects to the heal plate. That eliminated a lot of the sideways motion. Of course I also realize a single chain pedal will have more play than a double chain pedal which is firmer. I decided to give the Rogeers a try and just got it a few days ago. It is definitely heavier and has more adjustment possibilities than the Tama. Maybe it is overly engineered. There is very little side to side wobble as the footboard to heel plate connection is definitely better. But two issues I am working through is you can get a firmer spring tension on the Tama and I am having trouble getting a footboard angle I like. I like it pretty elevated as I play flat footed and I am doing a lot of experimenting getting the angle right but not having the top of the footboard so close to the cam that if you just bounce the pedal the top of the footboard hits the cam. Again maybe this is OCD at play. I will keep experimenting and see what I discover.

Hi, How’s that stealth rack working out? For the idea of losing all the tripods I’m sold. I have old e-drum “1&1/2 aluminum tubing and some new and used Gibraltar fasteners and my stealth practice kit is half complete. Next to buy HiHat and bass pedals (the “Offset double bass pedals?). Of course also snare, cymbals, and drums, ha ha. I’m using practice pads now and house kits to perform. How do you like the stealth rack. Also, the “Offset double bass drum pedals” seem much more ergonomic? What is your advice? Thanks for your videos! Cheerio

Does this latest incarnation of the Rogers pedal feature The “NEEDLE” bearings in the top tube that the original AMERICAN made Rogers featured before C B S took over and removed the needle bearings?! ( TORRINGTON “B-68’s by the way)! The original “AMERICAN” made ROGERS “SWIVO-O-MATIC” Foot pedal had a smoothness and ease of speed that has not been equaled to this day in any other pedal. Which is why BUDDY RICH kept using his original Rogers pedals long after he quit the Rogers camp and started using other Makes of drums! He always had his trusty old Rogers “Swiv -O- Matic” American made (no Asian parts)!’behind that BASS DRUM ! I’ll keep my original “Grossman” era Pedal Thank you Although I may consider purchasing this latest version of the Rogers pedal because I do like the action of it, and it is smooth as well just different from the original Rogers!

I have a Tama hp50 and also waiting for the dyno-matic to arrive; does anybody had already a chance to compare both pedals side by side? In pictures the Rogers seems to have a longer footboard (I hope so) .. Tama Classic is a nice pedal but the pedalboard feels too small to me. I also ordered a strap/cam kit in order to be able to switch between strap and chain to see which one feels better to me.

I played the old school swervomatic for close to fourth years!!! Loved it! The biggest weakness was the leather strap!! I had like ten spares!

The new Rogers drums and hardware are fantastic, but I've seen one of these pedals up close, and they're not the best for practicality or gigging. Tama came out with their classic pedal before this pedal came out, and its practically the same type of pedal. This pedal was made for the die hard fans of the vintage Rogers pedals who want something a little more durable with today's technological advances..

Interesting. That hi-hat stand looks so much more complicated than a standard two-leg stand. It looks like it takes at least ten minutes just to put the hi-hat together. A standard two-leg stand would take about 15 seconds to set up. I like the idea and think you will probably make a few changes after gigging with it a few times.

Hum, streamline a kit that originally used a snare stand, hi hat stand, and two flat base cymbal stands. Not sure it gets more "streamlined" than that. Ringo's look was iconic and isn't part of the "Tribute band thing" to look as authentic as possible? Just my personal opinion.

What a conglomeration of pipes! You did a really nice job putting it all together. Some close-ups of the snare and high-hat details would have been nice but, other than that, good video. Thanks dude.

I have a 1974 Roger's Strata Blue pearl 5 piece set with vintage 21, 23, Zylgian stamped ride cymbals from the 50s and 70s. also stamped 14 inch hI hats and 10 inch splash Zylgians also 70s vintage. Snare is a chrome over brass Dyna Sonic 500. amazing sounding drums and cymbals that I bought new and have been playing almost 50 years on.

A shame they do not have one piece footboard. Made in China junk. Go vintage pre CBS.

Does Rogers make a dual pedal to run two base pedals and the extension bar between them

I got mine about a month ago. this thing is so sensitive that I can make notes by curling my big toe. It is too sensitive for an electronic kit.

Chains are used on bikes, you're good.

Rogers does make a strap that comes with a cam. It is very easy to swap out the chain with the strap that gives the pedal a very different feel.

As for the chain failing in the future, I used to use the old Camco pedal and would unhook the support arms and throw it in my bag. Doing that gave it the same sideways chain that you're worried about. I've never had an issue with the chain doing this so I wouldn't personally worry about it on the Roger's.

I have a bunch of swivomatics. I can't do the Bonham doubles and triples because of the leather strap so I am using a speed king. Does the chain have a faster response than the leather?

Just received mine yesterday. To your point about storage. You do know you can disassemble the bar as you did to put in a your hard shell case but put it in the Roger's bag with no more or less strain on the chain. So you CAN fit it into the bag with out moving the spring tension assembly.

I'm heavily considering getting this pedal. I bought basically the copycat version of this that Tama has put out in the last couple years and I am really happy with it but I feel like because Rogers makes the real deal one it might be a better fit for me to get this pedal. I've been on the journey for the best Pedal LOL. I love super simple pedals. I'm 100% in the philosophy of things always working fast when there are less moving parts. Simplicity is key

regarding your "problem".. cut out some firm foam.. so the footboard can rest in that at a height that makes sure the chain has no strain... thanks for a nice review!

Glad you covered that click sound from the foot board hitting due to factory settings. It helped me quickly readjust mine and it will be going for a drive tomorrow morning.

Does the rod of the beater have standard diameter? Could you stick it on any other bass drum pedal like a Tama Speed Cobra for instance?
