is this not the same exact thing you played as the “i’m a man” video?
I'm hoping to play this someday, it's great to hear it on slide. Another old one chicken raid by Mr. Frank Edwards. You might want to have a go at that? He mumbles the words but the lyrics are a hoot, about a preacher who visits and eats all their food
Next time show the cords and you playing it
It might be silly but i feel bad for those old cars used up and cast aside in a junkyard or field to rot after serving so hard for so long.
That stomp box adds so much. Id like to make one with a piazo and maybe some nails with beer caps on them to jingle.
Do you find humbuckers or singles better for that old slide sound? I like the brightness in general of single coils. Ive yet to see how my Jaguar does with its faraday cage singles and a slide. So far ive been after jazz and surf sounds with my jaguar.
I like the sound of both...but sometimes the single coil creates a bit too much hum for my liking when I am recording.. If I am not recording anything...then I play the single coils a lot because I do like their brightness and buzzy sounds. Cheers Gazza :)
singles. don’t use humbuckers especially when you have only 3 strings.
I enjoyed that a lot. I'm wondering if I weave an old bit of a string when I change out string next in and around the strings near the pickup if I can mess with the magnets a bit to push it into a sitar sound.
Another interesting guitar mod suggestion. Hope it works. Cheers Gazza :)
Thanks for your tips. I started with a blues box, took it apart and use a tin lunch box to get a more dubro sound. Now I have the fun of making something beyond just random noises out of it. After I've practiced you ideas I will have to post another video plugged in.
Thanks for your comments Greenjagsurf. I like your idea of modifying a blues box guitar...as they have a nice raw sound to start with. I would like to hear your modified version of it. Let me know when you load up a video playin it please. Cheers Gazza.:)
HI Gazza great song
Thanks Ross. I was watching a documentary on the life of Robert Johnson...and was inspired to write this song. Glad you like it my friend:) Cheers Gazza :)
Different,peaceful,dreamy
Thanks Chezza...I am glad that you like it my friend. I like the words that you used to describe it. I will do some more tunes in this style. I really like the dreamy peaceful style too. Cheers Gazza :)
NOW THAT WAS BEAUTIFUL!!!
Thanks Mark, I am glad that you like it my friend. Thanks for your kind comments. I am just getting into this new style for me...and I will do some more. I luv playin slide this way. Cheers Gazza :)
Sorry gaz very nice slide but my fingers don't work that good so I'm trying to play the 3 and 4 string cigarbox I love slide guitar
Keep at it Dale. I was all fingers and mostly thumbs when I started out. You will get better over time. Hard to believe...but apparently Robert Johnson was a very poor guitarist when he started out too. Perserverence will get you there my friend. Cheers Gazza :)
Wow! I just stumbled upon your page and I’m impressed, exited, and inspired. I’m trying to watch four years of your videos as fast as I can. I can’t wait to start making, modding, and learning to play!
Hi Jak Jak, thanks for your kind comments my friend. Its a wonderful world that you have stumbled upon...ie-The world of cigar box guitar. I was fortunate to stumble across it too about 15-16 years ago. I absolutely love every aspect of it. The simple music...simple but artistic guitars... and the nice peeps that are part of it. I have done several Tutorial Videos on how to get started. Check them out...and they will help. Once you get started ...just enjoy it my friend. and remember...when it comes to cigar box geetars...there are no rules! Cheers Gazza :)
Sounds awesome!
thanks Jim for the encouragement my friend. I am lovin this style of slide playin. Cheers Gazza :)
Right On! Right On!
Thanks Bobby for the encouragement my friend. I am lovin this new found discovery of Ry Cooder slide guitar playin. It has so much feelin in it. Cheers Gazza :)
Great idea to line up the camera angle as it actually appears when playing!!! Super intro,, thanks!
Thanks for your nice comments and great feedback Eric. Cheers Gazza :)
Sweet playing buddy, just ordered one of these
Gidday Joe, I am glad that you like the slide. I am gonna have to order another one too. Mine rolled off my coffee table and smashed on my tile floor :( Its worth buying another one for sure, cheers Gazza :)
@@cigarboxgeetar9417 howdy, 🇦🇺🤝🇬🇧! oh no what a shame! I’m very exited to get to playing with, I’m big fan of Billy Gibbons so I wanted this slide to see what the master uses! Subscribed! I could definitely learn a thing or two from your slide playing!
@@joe.b944 HI Joe, Billy is the Man! He is a great one to study. He makes it seem so effortless too. Cheers gazza :)
Nice setup and the music sounded really good but the video would have been a little bit better if you would've shown your setup and gave a little bit more detail about it I would have loved to have learnt more about that amp because I've never seen that particular amp before plus I would have loved for this to have been a how to video and I maybe could have learned how to play that song.. I am still somewhat new to cigar box guitar, and I am learning as I go.. I recently started building my own stomp box but then realized my amp only has one input Jack which does me no good for having a stomp box lol.. Right now I am currently using a small fender DSP amp, but I am looking at getting a positive grid spark to when they come out in October.. I am interested in that particular amp because it is rechargeable and portable plus you can download different amp models and foot pedals which would be awesome!
Hi tattoo bull...thanks for your comments my friend. I am glad to hear that you liked my little spontaneous geetar tune. Also glad to hear that you are starting up cigar box guitar yourself. Check out some of my tutorial videos on this channel. They may be of help to you. I did not intend to make a video of this particular tune when I plugged my geetar into my amp that morning. I just wanted to try out the stomp box that I bought some time back. I recorded the audio on my phone app to see what it sounded like after mucking around with that tune. I don't even know the words to that song...I just made them up as I went along. However...the recording sounded pretty good I thought...so I took some photos of my geetar, amp and stomp box to make a little video of the tune. It's a really simple tune to play...so I may do a video tutorial on it down the track. Cheers Gazza :)
I am watching this in envy it is awesome, just wondering if you think I could play a 3 string with half my little finger missing on left hand.Thinking of putting slide over it would that work ,thanks missing playing
Hi Craig. Sure you can and will! When I first started out trying to learn about 15 years ago...I was all fingers and thumbs. Absolutely hopeless at it. But being determined to learn it...I watched heaps of cbg videos and watched other players to pick up various tips. I figured that every day that I did not practice...was another day lost. I figured that you have to make a start sometime... you will never ever get there. We dont start out competentent. To get competent...you need to practice and make mistakes. Over time you will minimise those mistakes and eventually get competent.
I do not use my left hand fingers to play on the fretboard to play chords or individual notes as a conventional guitarist might. I play all of my chords and single notes with the slide. These days I usually put my slide on my pinky finger if I am playing the geetar in the conventional upright position. If I am playing the geetar on my lap...I put the slide on my second finger. Playing in the conventional upright position...a lot of guitarists put the slide on their pinky finger(little finger.) Many such as Justin Johnson and Seasick Steve put the slide on their ring finger( 3rd finger). John McNair of Red Dog Guitars sometimes plays with the slide on his second finger. Dave Hole...rock guiiarist and blues legend puts the slide on his index finger. It reall comes down to what works best for you. There are NO rules when it comes to cigar box guitar playin. :)
I am sure that if you make a start and spend the time to practicing and watching heaps of videos...you will get the hang of it and develop your own style from it. I hope to be watching one of your videos one day...and get inspired by it too ! Cheers gazza :)
we didn't actually see you play guitar ~ im suspicious
Shy.
Hi Tom...thanks for your comments. it doesn't hurt to be a bit suspicious in this world...that's for sure. However...I did play this little tune and made up the words as I went along cause I don't know the song. It's a very simple little tune to play...and if you have watched any of my other 350 plus videos on this channel...you will see that I can play a very simple tune on geetar. I don't really care whether you believe me or not. Have a really nice day mate . Cheers Gazza :)

🤔can you play that song that Ralph Macchio played in that Nursing Home in the movie "CrossRoads"?
I don't know of that song. I will try to check it out on the movie...and have a go at it. Thanks for the heads up on it. Stay tuned. Cheers Gazza :)
Hi manomyth...I did manage to find the crossroads movie soundtrack that you mentioned to me. Thank you for steering me in that direction. It has opened up a whole new world for me. I had a go at playing something similar in style to the song by Ry Cooder. It will take me a while to learn the whole song properly...but I don't think anyone will ever play it as well as him...so I am not too concerned about learning every note that he plays...I am more interested in learning from his style. I am hooked on it at the moment. Cheers Gazza :)
🤔Yea', it sounds Beautiful''' Man'''
Thank you my friend. That little geetar of mine does make a great sound for something so raw and simple. Cheers Gazza :)
🤔I used to have a Joyo, the gold one, Loved it, but had to sell it', but can never get that sound again'
Those Joyo pedals are great. I love my vintage overdrive pedal (green one). I have not tried out the gold one...but I bet its a little beauty too. Cheers Gazza :)
🎶🎶👍👍🥰
Thanks Werner. I am delighted that you like this kind of music. You might like to check out Thomas Wenzel too. He is a german cigar box guitar player and singer who I really like to listen to. Cheers Gazza :)
Stomp box is? Let me guess. Some kind of drum? May be with piezo?
Yes...you have got it my friend. Its a little wooden box with a piezo sensor in it that you plug into an amp and tap with your foot. It sounds great and helpd you keep your timing. I bought the one on my video...but I have made one too. Ptreety easy to make. Cheers Gazza.
Really cool . Inspired ......
Thankyou my friend. It has inspired me again too . Cheers Gazza :)
Thanks again my friend...I just love the fact that I can take a simple tune like that...add some stompbox to it...add a few words here and there...just keep repeating the same chords over and over...with a little variation here and there...and make a nice little soundtrack out of it. I f you care to go and have a look at a lot of my videos on this channel...you will see that I like to do the same thing on many of those videos. ITs a great formula. I am glad that it has inspired you too. Cheers Gazza:)
As I have NO, NONE, ZILCH, and NADA musical clue in my body, I greatly appreciate this. Now I can build one of these and do more than beat it like a gorilla! Thank you so, so much!
Glad to help my friend. It is good to get you started. I felt just like you when I started. Just keep at it and you will get there. Cheers Gazza :)

Cheers Ross. I am delighted that you like it my friend. Life is a series of experiments. Some work...and some dont ! But I do like this song myself. Cheers Gazza :)
The ghost train has taken the listener to a ghost town. I relish that steady rhythm that's the foundation (if I may say so) of this great song. And your choice of photographies is fine since it is, in my opinion at least, the visual side of the composition. Thank you.
Thanks for your your comments and encouragement once again Giordano. Cheers Gazza :)
Oh dear. I am not sure if those words are profound but I think they reflect most people's experience in life. On the other hand: does it really matter? The music, your song performed so wonderfully on that guitar, stays while the women fotos and lines keep refering to change. That gets me thinking. As always: thank you so much. Keep up the good work.
Thanks for your nice comments and insights Giordano.. Music makes me think too. It makes me think about what i am going to compose/play...and what I might say about that...which makes me think again ...and ponder on what it all really means. :) Thinking is good...and yet sometimes...it is also good to just bang it out and see what happens Cheers Gazza.:)
0 seconds ago No right one, always a compromise. About the man is same. :-)))) Nice piece!
Thanks brother. I guess I am not the only one that has been on this journey. Cheers Gazza :)
Jump it up an octave the second time around. That'll sound good and increases the tension. Love the tone you get. Nice.
Thank you for your comments my friend. Sounds like a good idea to me. Cheers Gazza :)
I am not sure if what I am going to tell belongs here. But I once watched a feature or feature film about an Australian investigator of damage claims involving victims of train accidents in a small town even though the line had been closed for many years then. But noises of engines and cars were still heard where the tracks had been. A ghost train on a ghost track. What a fitting music, Gazza. Thank you so much. All the best.
That's an interesting story Giordano. I don't know the story...but I will investigate it for my own interest. I love stories like this. Thanks for sharing it my friend. The music is very appropriate as you suggest. I love Cheers Gazza :)
Sounds of nature, although of a nature unknown in these cooler parts of the world, mixed with that reptilian eye which is, at least in my opinion, surprisingly familiar and on top of that the wonderfully slow music produce a remarkable picture. Thank you. All the best.
Thank you Giordano...for your nice comments. You have a lovely way with words my friend. Cheers Gazza :)
