I'm very happy with the results I managed to put up with the M96 Swedish Mauser and my hand loads, and am particularly satisfied by the expedient reloads made possible by the excellent stripper clips and M1910 gear. Maybe before next year I'll pull a @LordJohnHD and find a full M1910 kit to wear.

A bit of a personally disappointing run. Nothing catastrophic, but I just expected a better showing from myself. Oh well, no mulligans! If the scores hold up like they did last year, this should suffice for a mid-pack performance. I did miss one of my hits when counting them up, there's a replay of the target impacts. Onward and upward!

There’s not a whole lot on the care and feeding of this cool little double action revolver, hopefully this helps someone out. These are great little revolvers and were manufactured for over 50 years. There were changes along the way and they were known as the H&R 999 and the Sportsman. They got a little more complex in 1974 with the addition of a transfer bar but it should be mostly the same.

Manufactured in April of 1944, I wish I knew more about this particular pistol’s story. It’s a wonderful shooter and a very nicely made pistol though. Now to find more .30 Luger!

    I am at the same point. I did change out items for german items and that didn’t help. The bolt carrier was bent. Century sent me another one and the downside was the bolt didn’t fit in the new one. I just broke down and ordered a MAD bolt. Hopefully that will fix things. Never buying anything from Turkey again.

    I'm honestly shocked reading some of the comments. I obviously believe them, but it's definitely not my experience. I have the AP5 and the AP5-M, and they've both run extremely well. I think I had a single jam on the AP5 in the first mag, and it was a failure to feed induced by a magazine load issue. Probably put about 700 rounds through each since with no issue. I think this is your standard Century Arms crapshoot. Some people are getting flawless guns, others are getting lemons.

    • @5TAT3N
      @5TAT3N 25 днів тому

      Agreed but I will say that while a lot of people complain about having to swap out parts I think that it’s OK you’re getting a budget MP five or MP 5K and you build your internals to make it function perfect just like with any firearm so 980 bucks for mineI think it was worth every penny, even though I upgraded mine first internals wise

    Crazy good price! Enjoyed the video, including the unplanned stripping of the receiver (heard it can happen, but never actually seen it). Have you perhaps replaced the locking bolt spring by now, or just avoid placing your thumb near the locking bolt when shooting? The commercial magazine looks like a Mec-Gar, which is the go-to aftermarket magazine for Lugers (with some caveats*). You may know by now you can buy a new Mec-Gar for about $40, such that you should have a magazine of known quality (infant mortality notwithstanding). I run Mec-Gars in all of my Lugers, except for my Swiss Model 1929. *Mec-Gar magazines fall out of the Model 1929 during live fire (and can be shaken out by hand), so I only use Swiss magazines in this Luger.

    • @bayonetsandbrass
      @bayonetsandbrass Місяць тому

      I have amassed a decent collection of Mec-Gar mags, and they seem to work well in my Swiss luger and in this one. I did replace the spring for the locking bolt but it didn't help much. It seems to be fine if I just shoot it one handed, so I either do that or I'm just aware of where my support hand is.

    • @randallgranaas2789
      @randallgranaas2789 Місяць тому

      @@bayonetsandbrass Sorry to hear replacing the spring didn’t fix the problem. The locking bolt on my 1906 AE falls out of the frame when stripping the gun for cleaning (essentially no spring tension). But it has have never come loose during live fire, so I haven’t messed with it. May help that I don’t have large hands, such that I’m less likely to bump the bolt. Seems most people don’t have an issue running Mec-Gars in their Model 1929 Lugers. I did install an original Swiss magazine catch in the pistol; the catch was included in a parts kit I purchased from SARCO a few months ago. But it’s knurled, rather than flat, so presumably it’s not specific to the Model 1929. Anyway, Mec-Gar magazines can no longer be jiggled out of the gun with the “SARCO” magazine catch installed. So, if I want to use Mec-Gar magazines in the Model 1929, I could leave the knurled SARCO catch installed. That said, since the pistol is working perfectly with Swiss magazines, and I want to preserve the original look, I reinstalled the Model 1929 catch.

    You guys need to check your bolt gap and order + or - rollers to get them in spec. Out of spec on the low end causes jams. On the high end, roller marks. It's really easy to swap them and upgrade the roller retention bar while you're in there.

However, both guns hate the ammo with the thin copper plating and tends to jam a lot with that ammo. Also, too much oil and poor cleaning makes for problems as well.

FYI, Hammerli has been forgetting to put the adapters in all of the boxes they sent their rifles in to the vendors and customers. This pretty much makes these rifles five to six hundred dollar+ paperweights for their customers. Good luck getting the adapters do to long leadtime according to Kentucky Gun Company customer service representatives via email received from Hammerli.

    I had the AP5 core and it was a nightmare!! Literally couldn't get through a mag without it jamming, even after the break in period Century recommends and HK German mags. The mag well was extremely out of spec as well, measuring almost a half inch play forward and aft even with HK German mags. I RMA'd it through Century and they sent me another one. Same issues although the mag well was much tighter it still had 1/4 of an inch forward and aft play with mags. The MP5 platform needs to have rather snug fitting mag wells in order to feed correctly, if the round is pointed to far down or up due to out of spec mag well, it will miss the chamber and jam when the bolt cycles.. Ended up selling the AP5 and saving my money and buying the HK SP5 and the HK SP5k, both run flawless out of the box without a "break in" period. Shouldn't have to buy a brand new gun and replace parts to make it function correctly!

    I saw someone else note that they do the same thing in really hot climate. With that being said, these mags can be found for less than 6 dollars a piece online. At that price, I would consider them fine for range use, they're basically disposable. The average guy could buy enough of these so that he doesnt have to sit and reload mags at the range. I certainly wouldn't put them in a situation where I need to depend on them.

    I’ve got one of these that seems to be in excellent shape other than getting lots of light strikes. It’s a 1937 model so very similar to this one and it’s in overall good condition. I cleaned the chambers and the face of the cylinder so cartridges definitely go in and out easy. Got rid of any marring from dry firing. Replaced the mainspring and put a seat in because that was missing. The pin end of the hammer is sharp and well formed and protrudes .025 when depressed past the rebounding mechanism. There is zero play in the barrel latch and essentially zero end shake in the cylinder and it locks up tight on each notch. I get 3-4 light strikes per cylinder that always fire on the second go around. The hammer isn’t hitting on the sides of the frame and seems to get full velocity but I’m concerned maybe the safety which rebounds the hammer after the trigger is pulled is limiting how far the pin actually protrudes. Any ideas?
