Not all the Victory models had the "U. S. Property" legend. Early in the program some were missed. The later ones usually had the mark. The odd mark on the frame of the last Victory model is interesting. Most of the Vs were sent (loaned?) to the Commonwealth nations, but a number were maintained in the U. S. and issued to plant guards for those facilities that made war material. Obviously I cannot guarantee so, but that Ohio address does fit. The "C" in the serial number does not signify commercial. It was a variation in the serial number sequence after the serial numbers reached a certain number too big for normal stamping. It does signify (almost by accident) the revolver was made in the period between the Second World War and 1950 or so. I have two of those two inch revolvers. They were the model called the Hand Ejector/Military & Police, later - in 1957 - to become the model 10. That is a nice collection of revolvers. Makes me a bit envious.

A cheap RG .38. Taught me not to buy cheap guns. Then I bought a Ruger MK I Target. That's what did it.

Thank you Mr Dave for sharing that great old revolver. I love the old blued Smith and Wesson revolvers. A bucket list gun for me would be a Model 27 with a five inch barrel. The old gun writer Skeeter Skelton had one and talked about it in his stories. Thanks again.

Thank you for the review and your history with the gun. I have always liked the third generation of Smith and Wesson semiautomatic firearms. There are numerous variations of each model. The forty caliber round still is a viable defense option and guns chambered for it are not as expensive as other calibers. Thanks again sir.
