wow mick amazing video of Bury... you deserve more subs.
Enjoyed seeing the old Bury i grew up in, especially the short but sweet glimpse of The Coach & Horses(building with Duttons sign on corner) just the film panned out onto Princess St after the Bury Market at the start, been teying to find a photo for donkeys years, as i lived in the C&H when my grandparents ran it, thanks for sharing
I found the film of bury market very interesting , as I boy living in bury I remember going with my mum to the old market on Fridays, it was always full of people buying and selling .I also remember the fire thst destroyed the market hall sadly . And the temporary one then the new one being built ,it looked like the future of bury was saved ,and even today it's getting a new make over and will always be the best market in the country
I remember the day the old market was burnt down. Looking at the pictures afterwards, I never even noticed what a lovely building it was
Barbara Castle! Was this the kiss of death?😂
Its shocking how much just one northern town has been destroyed over such a short time..
Brilliant
A large part of Bury town centre was destroyed for a generic concrete shopping centre and Elton was literally razed to the ground for a road.
50 years on & it’s a hell of a lot different
Wonderful! Thank you so much for posting it. :-)
54 minutes in and we see the Lord Raglan Pub, family home to the Leyden Family, Father Michael and 3 sons, Terrence, John and Brendan and 2 younger sisters and of course Mum, I worked in the kitchens, cooking food with John serving customers, George took over when I was ill for a while (started with epylepsy - now stable)
49 mins in elton reservoir, my uncle Norman sailed and was steward there for some time before going on to make his own sails near Walmersley Road
31 mins in and we see webbs foundry, I lived on Milton Street facing it in the 60's, we used to watch the hammers pounding
Bury Cine voice over by Terry Ashworth.
I am sure the female voice is Mavis Holmwood.
When things were done Properly
history is repeating all,i moved from salford years ago for a nicer life, cant tell the difference now, real shame

Bury in the good old days berofe The Gypos took over.
Memories of my youth from a Bury girl who became an ex-pat in 1966.
Absolutely a gem of a film lots of old scenes and story . Very well done nostalgia at its best
Them days are truly gone😢
52:48 When the police looked like police (and not paramilitary in yellow jackets)
28:00 I remember seeing the film in Dec.1968 when I was 4 at the Classic cinema (which became Halifax building society)
Great memory. Both the anecdote and your brain!!
Remember it well, was born there in 44. Lived and worked in Radcliffe but did Bury regular Left in 70 ,but go back once a year, for the best market in the uk 👍
Love watching old footage! Thanks for uploading!
Destroyed our towns like they have destroyed our culture.
Whose destroyed your culture? And what is your culture? 🤔
@@s.m975 I think you meant 'who has'
Funny how that works. We only live side by side with you and you claim your culture to be destroyed. Whilst our countries were occupied and ruled over by the English, and our countries still have our culture intact.
The town of my birth 1944 🤗
Many memories very enjoyable 😀
My great grandad is the man in the official looking white wig during the Queen's visit to open the town hall. My granny remembered him very fondly, though he died before I was born (sudden heart attack aged 69).
Fantastic film, thank goodness for the filmmakers and archivists. Well done. 👏👏👏
fantastic, thanks for sharing..
enjoyed watching this....thank you
I would love to see my mum when she was young, Marlene Cartmell~ later Finnerty.
Brilliant! Remember the tannoy from the indoor market? 😂
"Could mrs Everet please collect her boy" ECT!
I went to. East ward. Infants junior and seniors. Between 1948 and 1959 and remember many class mates like Alan Roberts and Rod. Wallace and remember also headmaster Mr Williams l would love to hear from anyone from. That. Golden era I lived in. Willow Street and used to go the dinner centre for my cast iron and brylcream pudding. I can taste it. 😊
My mum went to school here 😍
I'm a Bury lass, worked in Princess Street at Duckworths grocer's in 1967 . Over the Pennines now in Harrogate. You can take a girl out of Bury .......
Wonderful apart from the stiff upper lip commentary. Remember the old market just. Proud Bury lass 1952♥️
Its unbelievable how much of Bury has been destroyed.
Or improved depending on your point of view
@@johncostello3174 it’s not a point of view, it’s fact. Much of Bury destroyed and not all improved.

I wasn't born until 1974 but to see this makes me want to cry. I live in bury now, that definitely makes me want to cry.
