I have a 4" repro Jaques set of about 1920 made by this firm. It is excellent, and the most faithful copy I have ever seen. Wonderful work from these people.

Bought a reproduction 1915 Jaques set from these guys a couple of years ago. The accuracy to the original and the overall quality was out of this world. Can't fault them.

4.4 was a “showpiece” size right? The Laskers and Marshalls of back in the day played with these on oversized boards?? Geez, that’s a whole lotta timber, Johnny !

Vintage looking tan squares is a must for 3.75 distressed Chavet from same vendor. I finally found it in a genuine English leather board maker - chessbaron from England. Stunning look

Forget 4.4” it’s gigantic and for collectors who like to show off. The other original Jaques size was 3.50”, 1.75” base so this 3.75, 1.5 base is in the ballpark for everyday average games. SC are geniuses I own two of their works of art. Mandeep Saggu is the mastermind

If you're going to manufacture and sell chess sets, you really should know how to set the pieces up on the board properly. FAIL.

I thought the original 1849 set was about 4.4 inch king, thus making all other pieces bigger and heavier??

I have a similar set in distressed boxwood which I bought from House of Staunton. My all-time favorite set and probably my last. I build a board for it that I modeled after an old John Jacques board. I think together they make the perfect set, no other set, IMHO, is equal to it.

Mr. Saggu’s 90’s Kasparov championship Chavet in distressed boxwood is the beloved relic in my humble dwelling. The hand signed certificate of authenticity is a charming touch.
