That Time We Couldn't Make It Up Yankee Boy and Imogene
Переглядів 16 тис.Рік тому
July 6th 2023, we loaded up our families and went for a scenic off road cruise through the San Juan Mountains. First attempting the Yankee Boy Basin trail which later came to a end with snow still covering the trail. We then made our way up the Imogene trail in hopes to make it to the top of the pass that lies 13,114 feet. We attempted Imogene a day or two early and ended our attempt less than ...

There is no lip for any puller to grab onto tho, think i would be ok just buying only the bearing and tossing the bearing and sleeve that my kit came with?
My new pilot bearing came with the metal ring that u took the bearing out of, how do I get that metal ring out?
@@ianmoberg374 This came off a 94 Jeep Wrangler 4.0. I’m not sure mine is removable. Without the bearing installed maybe a small puller could fit
It works amazing it works on s 10 as well
Thats just the bushing the bearing is still there
@@preacher031163 this is the pilot bearing on a 94 Jeep Wrangler 4.0
Usually I replace the cheap pilot.just a little heat and a prybar that will catch the hole.this is smart too tho
Trespassing on private land.
No posted signs, as far as I know we were on the forest roads/trail.
We just did that trail in an ‘08 tundra 3” lift on 35’s and had a blast. Dented up some skids, hard hit on t-case skid, got my first real pinstripes, and haven’t washed the truck yet from spending a week in Crown King. Awesome area, thanks for the footage😁.
It is a very fun trail. I’ve always done day trips to Crown King, that would be nice to spend more time up there. Glad you enjoyed.
@@IdJeepThat we just did an Airbnb of an older rustic a frame cabin. That’s all we needed😁
Are you kidding me right now? I just dropped 70 bucks on a puller set
I didn’t have a puller small enough
Nice! I'm totally a noob to offroading, so, I want to just do scenic but easy to easy/moderate roads/trails until I get better. I want to be able to slowly grow into the capabilities of my truck (2024 Colorado ZR2). This looks like a fun trail, I'll have to do it next time I'm in the Durango/Silverton area. Oh, and cool T-shirt! I rode thru there on my sportbike in 2014 on my sportbike on a long trip and meant to stop there for a haunted burger and a t-shirt, but it was miserably hot and humid, and there was zero parking, so I just rode on. Nice vid!
Thanks! This would be a good trail for your truck. The Alpine Loop from Silverton to Lake City is another good trail. Jerome is a fun town to visit. If you ever get a chance to stop by again, some shops have some cool old pictures and history about the town
@@IdJeepThat It looked pretty mellow, I'd feel ok on it. I went up to Animas forks on my (then) new 2021 KTM 890 ADV R, which I'm also a noob on. Nice ride to there and back, but as I was solo and didn't know how the trail was past there, I chickened out and turned around. I always travel completely solo, so, I need to make sure I can make it. It was a nice twist ride thru Jerome, too bad it was so hot (100deg) and humid (70%) then, It was miserable if I even slowed down. I plan to get back there, maybe in the ZR2. Thanks, and keep 'em coming!
NEVER DO THIS ON LS ENGINES!!!!!!!
Why?
LS engines have plug behind pilot bearing. This video was a Jeep 4.0
@@IdJeepThat I did not know that. I have a Chevy Avalanche and a Jeep XJ. Thanks
Thanks 👌
Your welcome
Holy crap does that work?
Yes, it worked really well.
Woooooooow I’m going to try that
Hope it works out. I used one of the bolts from bell housing to engine and found the same thread nut
@@IdJeepThat I might have to use something different my crank hole looks under half inch it’s a old Datsun motor
Ugh. Music over off road footage. Can’t watch anymore.
I have no grease so ill be trying this right now i will come back and let you knownhow it went
Use a bolt and nut, hold the nut in place on the backside of the bearing with the screwdriver. Hope the video helped
Genius!!
Thanks! Hope it helped.
Wish you would have shown a bit of Animas Forks and explained a brief history of it. It is such a cool ghost town to visit, and I feel like all I saw was the parking lot. But I really liked the drone footage interspersed with the dash cam.
Thanks, and I will keep that in mind for future videos that include historical sites.
Dude’s a damn genius! Thank you!!
Glad the video helped.
Mines can have toxic vapors..🥐
We forgot the canary, so we just checked it out from the entrance.
Great job! I love the shot at the 1:45 mark. Stunning
Thank you! That was an awesome view at the Longfellow Mine.
❤ love it!!!
Thanks!
Awesome video! Great job showing the cool spots with the additional aerial shots from the drone. It really helps show how beautiful the area is. Thanks
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed. This was our first time there, it was an awesome area and cool to see all the different trails and changes in terrain.
Just remember though an LS has a plug you can push through. That’s a sweet method on most other motors.
Done the Alpine Loop many times. So awesome!!! Live in Texas, and We will be in Lake City from Sept. 16 for 2 weeks.... just a few more days, can't wait. Your video is fantastic.
Thank you! This was our second time to that area. I bet fall colors will probably start showing when your there. That would be awesome to see.
The music is too much consider narration
Thank you for the constructive opinion. Working on getting better at narrating
Very nicely done video. I enjoyed watching that. The drone shots are just amazing. It adds so much to it. Great job.!
Thanks! The drone definitely adds a new perspective.
haha Tanner's pissed you couldnt make it to the top!
also... so much snow for july! so cool!
It was a bummer we couldn’t make it.
There was this much snow a month ago?
Yeah, pretty crazy! We had multiple trails we couldn't complete during our trip in July due to snow.
@@IdJeepThat Great vid, looks like you had a great time. i’ll be there in 2 weeks
@@TheMattfranz Thank you! It's an awesome area to visit and explore. Have fun, enjoy!
What dates dis you do this? You posted two weeks ago and there was so much snow.
We did this July 2nd.
Awesome shots!
Thanks a lot!
did none of you see the baby in that jeep? now come one....that;s just not OK.
He is safe in the back seat in a car seat that meets Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards that is secured using SFI 16.1 safety certified 2 inch lap belts.
Packed in for an awesome adventure! Nice job.
Thanks! We’ve definitely found the YJ’s max capacity.
Nicely done! I was just there and ran the same route about 2 weeks after you. I really liked the drone footage. Great job!
Thanks! Got lucky and talked the wife into driving so I could fly the drone. I seen your videos, that Picayune gulch loop looks awesome, I’ve never done that trail.
@@IdJeepThat do you want it really was a great trail. I never run it before and we kind of stumbled on it. If I ever head that way again, I’m definitely taking that route every time. It is steeper in spots than it looks but it’s nothing difficult. Just a lot of fun.
fill the hole up with grease and find a steel rod/bolt that fits snugly into the ID of the bearing. Then just give the steel rod a pop with your hammer and the pilot bearing will pop out slick as boiled okra.
Haha! I’ll have to try both some okra and that method next time.
😮 wizardry techniques
That’s pretty slick 👊
OK I love this video. I was down in the Sedona area last February and broken arrow was my favorite trail. I love devils staircase. Your footage is great and the ending was freaking hilarious. Great job on that obstacle. I called the wedge or V notch that you went up. I know it’s hard with a manual trans. My JK has a six speed manual so I know.
Thanks! The manual definitely makes things a little more challenging. If you haven’t done them yet, Schnebly Hill and Diamondback Gulch are other great trails in Sedona.
@@IdJeepThat Schnebly Hill was still closed due to snow when we were there. Someday I will make another trip to Arizona.
Awesome video Bro! and to the co-pilots to help make it... top notch son:)
They love tagging along to take the scenic route.
Very nice job on the video thank you
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it
Looks like a fun and challenging trail. Great job on the video and thank goodness for rock rails and skid plates.
It was a fun trail, tons of crawling up waterfalls and technical spots. The section of trail we did was probably 5 miles and took over 5 hours to do
But there is great back country skiing!
The next day we went to Telluride and seen some dirt bikers carrying ski’s. Asked one of the guys what’s going on, they were on their way up to Imogene to ski
amazing- love it- jeeps are great but also ram rebel(?)🤩
Thanks! It’s a Ram Power Wagon.
Great video! I just ran Yankee buoy basin and governor basin today. I didn’t run a Imogene this time, but I usually like running it from Telluride back to Ouray. It’s crazy beautiful up here right now. I love your drone shots. Great job enjoyed every second of it.
Thank you! Wishing we were still there. I thought the drone was going to blow away it got so windy near Upper Camp Bird. I’m editing a couple more videos from our trip, I got the wife to drive some on Corkscrew and the Alpine Loop, so I was able to get more drone footage. If you have time do Imogene let me know how far you make it. Have fun!
@@IdJeepThat i’m leaving tomorrow morning but will come back and do imaging again. I’ve run it about six times already. Do you have a new subscriber in me? I love you Contant keep it up.
My daughter and I were just there with 4 dogs. You probably passed us as we walked up to 1st waterfall and she had my 15 year old dog in a pack on her back.
@@KCtheSUNSHINE those dogs are living the dream!
Love that trail! Nice video.
Thanks! Wish we could of made it all the way. Second time I’ve tried Imogene, both were unsuccessful..
@IdJeepThat Bad luck for sure. I did it in July 2021 and it was super clear. Barely had a patch of snow anywhere. I've done Black Bear 3 times, July 2020, July 2021 and September 2022. First 2 times in the rain and hail and finally in the sunshine!
Awesome. I want to tun this trail. How long is the overall trail? I perused the GPS coordinates you posted, trail looks short. Kinda sorta reminds me of the Elvis trail in Florence with the shelf climbs.
It was a fun trail. I didn’t track the miles, I think it was around 4-6 miles and took about 4 hours to finish.
Where is Smasher Canyon? Was not able to locate it on my On X Off-road app. Thanks
Trail starts east of Clarkdale. We turned off Sycamore Canyon Rd. I cannot remember trail number to get to trailhead, but this pin should help: Trailhead 34°48'10.2"N 112°01'48.9"W 34.8028308, -112.0302507 Where we ended trail 34°48'51.9"N 112°00'38.3"W 34.8144094, -112.0106350
