      Typical round bale is 4’ x 5’ & weighs about 900#. 4’ wide is typical because 8’ wide is legal without being a “wide load”.

  • @mikew732
    @mikew732 10 місяців тому

    Did you try using the front loader to push the tractor backward out of the mud? Usually I can get myself out a lot of the time like that without needing to be pulled out. Looks like most of the calves were a little on the light side, I sold some 500 weights that brought 15 - 1800 per head a couple weeks ago.

    • @joineshayandcattle7629
      @joineshayandcattle7629 10 місяців тому

      Yes I did. But the hay spike would just go thru the mud. The tractor was just sitting on the axle and the tires had no bite. And that’s great. With the prices being strong and hay being in short supply I didn’t want to miss my opportunity to make good profit off of the cows.

    Why don't you run your rake & baler together anymore and what's the reason for using a shredder for cutting instead of the moco?

    • @joineshayandcattle7629
      @joineshayandcattle7629 10 місяців тому

      The reason for not running them tandem is because there is an issue with the pto shaft on the rake. I don’t know if it’s too heavy or what but it broke the shaft on my tractor. And on the 5100 it is 540 only so there’s more to replacing the shaft than a snap ring like on tractors that have a 540/1000 pto. Second reason is because the hay was on the light side. You can’t weave the baler back and forth to control bale shape. As for shredding that particular field, there was a little huisache in it. Rather have it shredded/ mulched up than leaving bigger pieces that could cause issue with raking or baling. Still have the moco and looking forward to using it again. Hopefully once I get the accessory plug put in the 4250 and the hay is thicker, I can use the flexrake/baler combo. As for the pto issue, I was told a lighter shaft is the solution. I’ve bought one so when the time comes I’ll be ready. Thanks for the comment!

    Why don’t you run the baler behind the rake if it’s set up for it?

    • @joineshayandcattle7629
      @joineshayandcattle7629 Рік тому

      There are three reasons, 1) I broke a shaft on a tractor running it like that. They claimed to have solved the problem by putting on a lighter pto on the front of the rake. Buuuuut until I get good feedback I’m not going to risk it. 2) I need to install the new wiring that goes through the rake for the baler hook up. I have the new wiring, just need to run it inside the rake frame. 3) we ran into some issues while cutting the field… so the grass had consistency issues. With what was we dealt with, running them separate was the way to go. That was I had control over the bale shape.

      @@joineshayandcattle7629 just curious, building one myself so I was wondering

    • @joineshayandcattle7629
      @joineshayandcattle7629 Рік тому

      @@rgcattleandhay2215 no problem. Appreciate the comment. The only drawback with that rake is not being able to control the shape of your windrow. When I ran it tandem, any long curves or thin grass, the bales would come out looking bad. Nothing wrong with them, just their physical shape. And most people these days judge hay like they do other people, by the outside appearance. I’ve seen people buy cheap hay that looks great with netwrap but there’s roadside trash, tires, and other stuff in them. Eventually I plan on putting the rake and baler back together. It saves tremendous time when you’re by yourself. But I want to do that when I put it behind a tractor that has a removable pto. When the the one on my 5100 broke they had to open the rear up to fix it. Had it just been a snap ring and it pulled the remaining piece out it wouldn’t have been as expensive. Good luck with the build!

    You say about 29,000 net load plus the trailer weighs 11,000 and this is on only 2 axles that are rated for 10,000 each. I wonder why things break. When we haul loads that much, we use a tractor/trailer combo. Glad DOT didn't catch you.

    The previous owner of the Moco should have swapped the turtles to the other side of the cutter bar to make them spin the other direction so they would wear more evenly. Looks like they didn't realize they are reversible to get more use out of them. Are all 946 & 956 Moco's capable of going into transport on a dolly like that or is that one made specific for it?

    • @joineshayandcattle7629
      @joineshayandcattle7629 2 роки тому

      I think they both can as long as they have the transport cylinder on top that allows the tongue of the moco to swing all the way to the right. The 946 we have doesn’t have that specific cylinder.

    Had to replay the start of the video, because I thought I heard you say that the Deere MoCO worked better than Krone......We grow Hybrid Bermuda Tifton 44, so a conditioner is not needed.......We have 3 Kmc cart mtded easy cut 320s.......

    • @joineshayandcattle7629
      @joineshayandcattle7629 2 роки тому

      Yes, our Krone EC320 does a great job cutting, but unlike yours it’s not on a dolly. So every time it’s getting hooked and unhooked it never fails that it’s not on level ground. Main reason for trying the moco is that with the rice, we needed to cut it different heights in different fields. I have the additional skids on the EC320 but other than that, it’s not really easy adjusting cut height. The MoCo has skids that are adjustable, hooking it up is so much easier and also when we ran the Krone, it was on our John Deere 5100…. The tractor handled it fine, but transporting it on a trailer wasn’t always easy. It had to go on a certain trailer to haul it hooked up and that trailer is always used between my dad and myself… I have no complaints with Krone, just the MoCo works better for what we are doing. Thanks for the comment and for watching the video.
