芗剧，原名歌仔戏，亦名子弟戏，起源于福建漳州。明末清初，郑成功率部收复台湾，把流传于漳州的“歌仔”（锦歌）、“车鼓弄”等民间艺术带到台湾，并与当地民歌小调结合，在农村、渔区广泛流行，出现坐唱形式的“歌仔馆”。清末，由于迎神赛会的需要，清唱的“歌仔馆”走上广场，出现化妆游行的表演形式，时称“歌仔阵”。此后，“歌仔阵”吸收梨园戏、四平戏和乱弹的剧目及表演艺术，在农村谷场、庙埕牵草绳圈地演出，民间俗称“落地扫”。逢年过节，也搭戏棚表演。因为是从“歌仔阵”发展起来的，故称歌仔戏。
Tho I don't understand the language, do enjoy cultures esp. music. However, the lighting is a pity. The many varied colours of the costumes have been lost.
Everything is in a shade of blue. Don't know if this is a problem with theatre lighting or the camera?

The actor playing the child looks too old, older than the mother....
The male lead looks like a real male? Whereas a female player often appears as a young male, suitable for the young spoilt son. But a real male, their facial complexion is harder, more lined. So, the male, in this case, makes the spoilt son look much older i.e. as middle aged man. So, the son looks as if he is too old! Even though it is a real male playing a male ......
P.s. Anyway, later, will try to watch the opera and see what the performance is like.
Oh....I see (without understanding the language) it seems this is a kind of comedy....
P.s. Just realized, the 'male' role is played by a biological female! Is this a case of equal opportunities for all?! Interestingly, in the West, there is a Christmas drama called 'pantomime' usually based on famous children's tales e.g. Cinderella, Jack & the Beanstalk. Often a female plays the main role i.e. a young handsome hero. And a man plays an older woman, usually a negative or funny character....but seldom as a beautiful young woman. But in this opera, the man playing a woman is taller than the female playing a man....
Am I mistaken or is this 'female' player a biological male playing a female role. I guess, if people accept females take on 'male' roles, then maybe it should be acceptable vice versa? Hmmm...🤔

Both excellent performers. But they play a lot of sad roles. Would be nice if there were some comedy etc.
Think that's why New Dragon Inn with it's aspects of fun and comedy, along with the dramatic, was such a success

此劇改編得十分差。 道具又不齊全，喪家室內還用那紅色桌椅。最妙的是用一隻馬(戲中一條馬鞭就是一隻馬) ，去打仔，怎麽一根竹，一條藤也供應不到嗎？這樣子馬虎，叫人怎樣看下去？但我是看下去了，卻又有頭無尾。
