Kin Mini Chisels - An eBay find
Found these on eBay. Bought them to see what they can do. It turns out they can do anything you would expect a teeny chisel to do.

I have been testing these small carving knives from Beaver Craft since summer 2018. I would definitely say they are a good knife set to get. For both price and quality. Watch and find out why. what knives did you use to carve?
Old video, but my glass stones have an incredible amount of stiction. Have you ever had that problem with them? If so, what did you do to stop it? Yours looks like it just glides.
Nice job Danny ,a different approach but still a good outcome ,maybe at some point make yourself a spoon making vice its all part of the hobby making things in wood ? thanks for showing us .ive liked and subd you Greetings from Wales UK . Ant .
Those NW tools are like gold dust. It's good to know yours is going strong and it's great to see someone having a go in a new hobby. Nice work.
Beautiful job! If you drill the tang like that as deep as you can and then use a single long drill bit to drill a pilot hole, it's easy to burn the tang in by heating the tip with a butane torch and gradually tapping it home, for an "invisible fit.
😊very nice work 😊
I made my own knives...
I can't believe the amount of excess wood that you decided to start out with !!!
Я теж використовую маленький струг для виготовлення руків'я
very cool...but why not carve the other way around? The flat side?
👍👍👍🔥🔥🔥
You done a lot of hard work by hand and it shows 👍👍👍 The handle turned out GREAT 👌👌 Thank you for your time and video. 🤝
Thank you so much Danny for sharing this video and your thoughts on the knives. Appreciate it so much, I am just starting to do my spoon carving project for my granddaughter. I’ll follow your channel. Blessings.
Refreshing - 'I don't really know what I'm doing'. Danny, you're doing fine.
Very nice! Have you done any and left some of the bark on the bottom? Wondered if that would turn out.
The spoon is cool. I don't know if house music and spoon carving go together, but... okay.
I have unfortunately ended up with basswood that was about like granite. Heineke Wood sells the best basswood, I highly recommend them. Your mushroom gnome is cute
👍👍
Great video thank you. Epic spoon 🙌🏼
Glad you liked it!
nice video :)
Great video
Thanks mate
What type of oil did you use?
Walnut in this case.
I love my set so far
May i ask if you dry the wood before cutting it or after? Dry wood is harder to work with but it will split if it dries out when finished?
Hi there. All woods I use for spoon carving are green and wet. To dry them I put them in plastic bags with wood ships so they dry slowly. Sometimes they split.
@@dannydrevo Thank you for the explanation! I am starting to carve and it helps a lot; Still, some will split but it's wood after all, a 'living' material and a learning process with every project.
@@CanumaamunaC One trick is to keep the woodchips and shavings from the spoon and put them in the bag with the spoon. This will help ensure they dry slowly. It will increase your success rate.
Super cool, great share. I just ordered these up from Hummul Carving Company for just around $60, shipped. Had to go to "ChippingAway.com" for a Pfeil 90 degree 6mm V tool. that was just about as much as the other three knives! I am learning to carve pilots for my RC aircraft.
what chisell do you use ? nice job !
Thanks! If you mean the gouge, it's made by MStein.
What brand are your chisels?
These ones are made by Extol.
The skew chisel looks to be the only one you could sharpen.
level Joe not sure I get what you mean
You did a great job on that handle it turned out lovely it's a wonder theres not more Smith's turning out sloyds like westermanns
Thanks Shane
Your work inspired me ❤ how should i attach the spring to the head/body part? With glue or is there some otherway?
Hey, sorry for the delayed reply. I just put a drop of superglue in the holes for the spring.
I waited to see how it fit in your hand and you never showed yourself holding it.
Yeah that's probably something I should have included. Sorry mate :( It fits well though
Don’t like to be unpleasant but WHY do people who don’t know what they are doing insist on making videos on how to do stuff? I’m with RL just don’t do this it’s silly. Let those who know stuff teach stuff.
I'm not telling anyone how to do anything. Just showing how I did it. If you want professional assembly videos, go watch a professional. Meanwhile, my twca cam still works well.
danny drevo Yes it works well. My order from NW just went thru and I have heard they are magical tools. I was not so much intent on bashing you personally as I am in bashing youtube videos showing how to’s by those who are just beginners. Seriously, why make the video if you’re just new at it as is obvious. Btw, I’ll use epoxy. Enjoy your TC...also I am baffled by the way you used it at the end but rage on and PEACE.
Bob Renda why? Because some of like to show our experience in learning a new craft. If you don’t like it, don’t watch. If you have constructive criticism like “I think you should have used epoxy” then I am more than happy to hear it or explain why I didn’t. Just saying “you’re not a pro don’t even bother” does nothing. Everyone starts at zero.
danny drevo Ok DD. Carry on. It’s just not important to drag this discussion on any further. Have fun. Do whatever videos you want and good luck. I don’t really have the option of avoiding mediocre youtube videos when I see that the vid pertains to something I’m looking for until I’m watching them but whatever. All I am saying is I hope when people post they will maybe prepare, know what they are filming is helpful and informative (check out Izzy Swan, Stumpy Nubs, Rustic Dave etc) and isn’t just a bit of fumbling around doing what just about anyone might do. I really just tuned in cuz your video mentioned Nic Westermann and I am anxious to get my six tools from him.
@@bobrenda1618 Just chiming in on this three year old comment to let you know that you sound like an idiot. The beauty/ staying power of UA-cam is small creators like this that can then grow into bigger channels. Don't like it? Shut up and move on. Don't bash the person for putting something out there. You are giving off huge dunning kruger energy, the most annoying of all online energies.
What is a good wood to use for a spoon
There are so many that work well. Most hardwoods are great. Most types of nut tree or fruit tree will give you great results. If you can't find those, any sort of maple will be good as well, but a little hard. If you are beginning, maybe something like poplar or willow is a good start. Birch and hazel are also good beginner woods.
thanks for the video but i would much rather see a longer video and be able to watch what you are doing so its not quite so fast .... maybe you could slow down the speed a little ?????
i know it would be considerably longer, but is it possible to see this in real time ???? I would make it easier for a beginner to follow along...
Hey mate, thanks for watching. I'm not really the best at tutorials. Maybe in the future I can make a slower more educational version but for now this is more of a "how I do" than "how to do"
Im confident i could take this on now

well i just finally found a use for my ryobi bench :D thanks!
How does the shaft of the Twca cam stay in ? Is it threaded?
The shaft isn't perfectly straight, so it binds in the hole keeping it in through friction.
Are these knives scandi ground? Or are they hollow ground with a standard V grind?
The are a scandi grind. Not the most accurately done, but for the price, they're fine.
That's awesome
I tried to make it out of my wood but it didn't work out
Hey Albert. This is birch which is very easy to work with. I just picked up some fallen branches.
