    Harvey and Ricardo Bare need to join Raf at Wolf Eye studios- we would get bangers like Prey and Dishonored again (albeit lower budget).

    You should look into how Star Raisers and Battlezone were done on the 2600, it IS possible to do first person stuff on the machine. Not very well, but this is 1978 what do you expect? lol

  • @Trench216
    @Trench216 2 місяці тому

    The RAM for the games was on the cartridges themselves, which is why they were so expensive. Battlezone, one of the last 2600 games, had the full 64k on it that the 6502c could handle.

    In the time of the TRS-80 Model I, before it was even called the Model I (because there was no model II yet), my father and I wrote Games Pack 1. Mostly in BASIC, with Z-80 machine language poked into strings for speed. We struggled to make games fit in 16K, which was the sweet spot for the size of market you wanted on the TRS-80. But whatever we went through optimizing our code can't compare to the 2600 beamchasers. We never had to worry about where the beam was on the monitor! See this face? (ʘ_ʘ) I would have pulled my hair out. Well done! All good wishes.

    Sorry to keep pestering here. But what you could have done to this short is to take his last line “more money than any other game” and cut it in first. That’ll keep people hanging in there through the rest. And on loop it’ll be seamless and keep people watching a couple seconds past 100%

    This is really great information. I appreciate you guys laying out the bits and bolts of making a studio. As an academic, it is interesting to hear how similar it is to starting a lab. Instead of video games we have papers and instead of venture capital, we have federal grants and program managers. This video comes just in time for me, personally. My brother and I have just started working on a Tetris like game together, and we are just finding our dynamic. We will probably put together a corporation rather than an LLC, just so we can open the possibility of VC money. Though, I don’t really expect searching for it now. It’s a small game, but I think it’ll be really fun. We put together a prototype, and everyone who plays seems to have trouble putting it down. Haven’t even made the fun parts yet. I even did the kindergartner test, and my kids knew exactly what to do when they saw the game without direction from me.

    It's kind of funny listening to Peter Molyneux here because he gets such a bad rap from other UA-camrs without being able to defend himself. At least we can hear his ideologies etc here. Edit: It's crazy to think how difficult it was back then to attract people interested in the games industry. I tried for many years to get a job as a tester (as advised by Nintendo when I was 12). I knew what I wanted to do when I was 5 (NES era) and was writing to companies at 12 but couldn't get anywhere. Funny enough back when the Nokia's first came out I was like "`what would it be like if we could all play snake together instead of crowding around each other's phones". Little did I know how movie gaming would rear it's ugly head one day. If they are 24 people: do they need a 25th? 🤣. PS: I've watched Teletubbies if that helps 🤣. To be honest after listening to this the only thing Peter got in trouble for was being a visionary. I've seen plenty of games promise features that never got delivered over the years...

    All of Bungie’s early IP are gems. Marathon, Myth, Halo. Absolutely exceptional. I play them all the time, and my kids do too. I love me some Destiny, don’t get me wrong. But early Bungie is the best.
