Sharing my journey to self-publishing through tips.
Okay, so I know that sharing my journey should be in vlogs, but honestly, my life isn’t currently conducive for that, plus I also prefer sharing how to’s and tips, but everything will be specifically based on my life and my methods.
For context, I'm an aspiring author that currently working on my debut novel, temporarily titled Aleena, after the main character. Is either a new adult or adult light academia romantic fantasy novel surrounding 2 humanoid races with wings that act as human consciousness. The story revolves around a love and survival story with a character from each race.
I’m a linear person and LOVE lists, processes, checklists, and examples. So my channel will be that entirely.

I don’t know if this is an actual plan for UA-cam, but I’m doing my best to understand the landscape as a new UA-camr. I can’t say if I’m going to stick with this, or be consistent with it, but I’m trying my best.

Thanks for making this. So far you are the only person explaining romantic fantasy.
Glad you liked it! And since I’m writing fantasy romance/romantic fantasy/ romantasy I figured I would target my videos for that specifically
I usually have the opposite problem, but great tips!
Thanks! Keep an eye out because I plan on doing a video for under writer as well!
Nice tips!
Glad you liked them!
Retaining motivation for writing can definitely be a struggle - thanks!
Publishers just threw out a category to take away from the epic fantasy and romance which are different as we know, and called the combination Romantasy, which they sum up as YA Don't shoot the messenger okay
Hm, I hadn't really thought about it but I suppose that means I could market my latest series - just working on the last book of five - as Romantic Fantasy since there is a strong romantic sub-plot which didn't have to be there. Though I suppose if it has Romance in the classification, it absolutely has to have HEA/HFN. It could go either way. (I'm a pantser, yup, pantsing a five-book epic fantasy series, but all my series have been pantsed, I'm no stranger to it.) (I clicked on your video because I always want to learn new things. And I did, so that was good.)
I'm glad you were able to learn something new. Also, I'm so impressed that you were able to pants a 5 book series, I tried pantsing my current work first, but wrote myself into a corner. So I am so unbelievably impressed when someone is able to do that. I hope the book's progress is going well.
as a new writer working on my first fantasy novel, thank you for this video!! subscribed immediately!
Thank you! I hope you enjoy my videos and make sure to update me on the books progress. I would love to hear about.
Paige Toon does love triangles very well
I can understand why people like them, they just aren't for me.
Thank you for this video I put away a book idea 3 years ago about the forbidden romance between a wolf and an elf it was set in present day England so like they were modern young people The wolf is a guy who comes from a strict and traditional tribe which he doesn't want to be a part of , the elf girl is in a similar situation her family are very powerful and she refuses to abide by old fashioned duties she wants to live an independent life. It was heavily inspired by the last of the mohicans, shannara chronicles and wolfs rain. The wolf guys family are spiritual they believe in a god who brings peace and pride to their kind it was made up by me but I did research a little bit on native American, Inuit culture
Okay, I LOVE this story idea. I don’t know if you plan on picking it up again, I would love to hear updates about it. Or even if you come up with another idea.
@@bellarivea I'm definitely going back to it because the plot sounded so awesome so I'm determined to get back to work on it 😊☺️
@@antoniamcgregor3285 That's great! Make sure you keep me updated 'cause I would love to know.
Great, on point plot points. For me, my only big deviation is that I experimented with the 'meet-cringe' instead of the 'meet-cute'. Not sure if it'll work but it's fun to work these characters toward trusting each other despite a very bad first impression. The rain ambience was atmospheric. Looking forward to more videos!
Honestly, to me, the “meet cute” is just the first moment the main couple interacts with each other on page. But I love the idea of an awkward first meeting. It sets up an adorable romance. Also, thanks for the love!
So excited to find your channel, I love watching newer/smaller authortubers! I loved hearing about your tips for kickstarting your motivation. I also tend to use vlogging authortubers to motivate me, it feels like I’m not the only one working on my WIP. 😊
Thank you for this! I'm glad you like my motivation tips and I hope my channel helps motivate you like they do for me, because that would be absolutely amazing. I hope the progress on your WIP is going well?
Let me know where in the process you’re at in your current WIP.
Wishing you an amazing 2024. Good luck getting monetised, it's not easy!x
I failed my deal to end book until the end of year and send it to the contest until 12/31. I started to write something different 3 days before. :D
I'm a little confused about the wording. If I am understanding it correctly, your goal was to finish a book for a contest that was due 12/31 but you switched to a new project 3 days before that. If this is the case, brush it off and keep moving forward. There are plenty of contests next year where you could go back to the first one and submit it. Or you could work on both the old project and the new one in the next year. But no matter what, you made progress on your work and that's the most important thing!
@@bellarivea As you can see, I'm not a native English speaker, so I'm focusing on competitions in my country. :D And here is one big competition, the prize of which is a book contract and a financial sum. Otherwise it's unfortunately d..d here. The competition has a deadline every year at the end of the year. I can't do it every year, so in 2023 I wanted to finish at least something by the date. Well, there is also a chance next year, but I disappointed myself, I was sure that I would make it.
Oh, I see. I totally understand how that’s pretty frustrating. But be proud that you were able to write something. This year you can always try again. I’m rooting for you this year!
Thank you :)@@bellarivea
Let me know everything you all were able to accomplish in 2023. Even if it wasn’t writing related, let me know because looking at the positives is the way to start off next year right.
I wrote 300,000+ words of this massive epic I've contemplated for ten years in 2023. It's almost finished. But it was an ordeal. I'm not bragging about the word count--it's all I do in my spare time, I'm obsessed. The agents and editors aren't going to be breaking down my door anytime soon, but holy shit, am I proud of it. Anyway, I like your channel a lot--subscribed a few weeks back. Happy New Year!
Hey, be proud of that massive book. That is an amazing accomplishment so brag all you like. This is a positive space where we brag (respectfully), hype others up, and help in all parts of the journey. Happy New Year to you too!
I totally agree with you. I participated in NANoWriMo for the first time this year and the word count goals really help me get motivated. But my first draft was kind of done before the 50k and I didn't make that goal for several reasons. I would like there to be an option to adjust the goal, or at least still have a chance to be able to win in some way even if you don't make it to 50k. I feel like people have all kinds of different goals, but the event is very rigid in my opinion.
Exactly! I personally would love to count potential edits towards that word count goal. But with the way NaNo is set up, it doesn’t feel like it’s an option. Anyways, congratulations on finishing that draft (or I think you did with the way you described it.)
@@bellariveayeah something like that or to be able to select that the draft is complete and you still get some sort of badge or whatever. And thank you 🙂 I did finish it. I started at the midpoint and now it’s roughly 81k words in total.
@@animature4929 Nice! Congratulations again. I personally don't really like the badges. especially when they are now the main focus of the site and the challenge. But either way, I still think there should be more to it, and it doesn't have to be as official, but definitely have more options.
I've never participated in NaNoWriMo. Mostly because the thought of it stresses me out, but I always get the urge to in November and then tell myself "next year." I'm glad that you're not stressing about it and not going into burn out. It's good to see that you're doing what's best for you. I also like that you talked about the "hustle culture" of it all and what comes after.
I totally understand not participating in NaNoWriMo because of how daunting it may seem. I personally just tried and even though I didn’t win, I still got words in, and it was actually my best month. So I can understand the worry, but even without participating in NaNo there are still excessively successful authors. So no need to worry if you never do NaNo. It’s just a fun event to get a good chunk of words written.
@@bellarivea Oh my gosh. I don't know how I didn't see your reply until just now.😅
NaNo is not for everyone. Everyone works differently, so the set-up doesn't work for everyone. I agree about the focus on word count and nothing else though. I've done NaNo twice and have two first drafts. No idea what to do with them now, LOL. I think doing a different novel month challenge is a good idea. November is very busy for many people.
Love that comment. I’m actually going to be going through the process of editing and self-publishing next year (if not 2025) so hopefully I can give you a good idea of what comes next. But I would recommend looking at Jenna Moreci. She’s a self published author and has lots of great educational videos to learn more.
My intention was to put a question in the comments for you to answer, and of course I completely forgot about it. 🤣 So here it is. How is your NaNoWriMo going? And do you like the idea of starting our own novel month challenge?

I luv Fantasy and like Romance so you got my attention. Then I make book trailers w/ original music to represent stories/characters so I like learning writers thoughts and strategies cuz that helps me understand stories when I interpret them and represent them w/ music so your style sounds intriguing. Looking forward to your following videos so big welcome!
Thank you! I love that you match characters with music like their own personal theme song.
