Making APA Documents using Multimarkdown and Latex
Переглядів 2813 роки тому
You can find the files and a brief howto here: github.com/wweatherall/markdownLatexPDF/ The goal of this project is to streamline a plaintext workflow for multimarkdown and LaTeX. Both are very powerful, but somewhat inconvenient. This allows you to set up your style, defaults, and service once and then ignore formating until the end of your project for the future ones. If you have any question...
Make your planer bed parallel with the cutting knives (General International 30-100)

Main Idea of the Video: 6:55 Sorry for the incredible length here and the low volume. I didn't know what I was doing because there was no video on it. So I attempted to make one. Objectively, this video sucks but it might be the information you need to get your planer running better and I hope you view it in that spirit. At about 6:55 is the meat of the video and the thing that you need to know...

Edit: Light Phone has since added a music player. The review is still mostly accurate though. Edit: As far as I can tell, Apple has fixed the functionality again so you can disregard the next edit. Edit [deprecated as it appears iOS 15 allows this trick to work again]: You can only do this easily on an iPhone that is iOS 12 and before unfortunately. One day I'll make a video of the absurd proce...
Harmony 650 Teardown
Переглядів 44 тис.11 років тому
How to tear down a Harmony 650 universal remote to clean it or fix it. My baby chewed on it so the power off button stopped working so I had to take it apart. There was a build up of salts on the circuit board and after I removed them, the remote worked. So, if you have a remote that stops working or has buttons that stop working a cleaning might fix it as it did for me. Good Luck : )
Just what I needed. Great work. Thank you
The sped up screws hitting the table was very satisfying lol.. Thanks for this video appreciate you my friend 👌
This is just what I was looking for-thanks for a great video! Q: Which of these do you find yourself using most often?
depends on what for. FreeCAD for anything 3D printed. Sketchup for quick mockups. Blender if I want to visualize it.
Part 2 Please
Do you possibly have the user manual for this machine? I inherited this model from my father recently, cannot find the user manual anywhere online, and General International doesn't seem to respond to calls or emails. Thank you!

How do SketchUp and FreeCAD compare in terms of handling multi-part projects? I've found this challenging when considering a switch from SketchUp to FreeCAD.
FreeCAD is fine in that regard in my opinion. What are you trying to do?
@@williamweatherall8333 I've been attempting to use FreeCAD for designing woodworking projects, where the components are primarily rectangular shapes assembled together. I began by following the WayOfWood tutorial available here: ua-cam.com/video/jfNBfdIpzDQ/v-deo.html But then I just got into an analysis paralysis about which assembly plugin I should use: Assembly2, A2plus, Assembly 3, or Assembly 4.
honestly, you can get a good distance without assembly. drive.google.com/file/d/1SMPV704X2Xoq_o-mul_03RSKXuVM2dU-/view?usp=share_link is not amazing but not once did I use assembly. They are kind of only worth the pain of them sometimes IMO@@Trooper266
@@williamweatherall8333 Prospective viewers need permission for that location.
@@Trooper266 and recently there is an integrated assembly workbench with newer freecad versions. Having tried all the assembly workbenches, except the new integrated one, i find the A2plus the most intuitive. So if you are not up for looking around quite some, i would suggest to use this to begin with. If you continue working with freecad, eventually you will try this and that at some point by yourself. They all come free to use and try and you will see what works the best for your needs. It can be really confusing having all these options, but it's just different people creating what seems to work best for them and giving the choice to everyone else to use them. Good thing.
Thanks for this. It would be interesting to also count the number of clicks or touches/button press. As a extra, context switching is also a factor. I still struggle along with an old copy of the downloaded version of SketchUp. I’m really hoping I can find a replacement. . I’m just a home diy person and can’t justify the money for a non free tool. Low fee tools might work. But “low” is not a subscription when I use it twice a year. Again, thanks for this.
Thank you so much for the explanation 🙏🏻
In my first week of the light phone. I like it accept I find the texting near impossible to use. It takes for ever to type a message and its easy to make a mistake..
yeah, texting is why I got rid of it.
@@williamweatherall8333 Its kind of interesting because part of its promo is 'just texting'.. wouldn't you make it so that texting is easy and efficient then?
@@rooshe8957 yeah, the issue is that in order to make texting good you need a nice fast processor and a responsive lcd.
The iPhone 5s it's a so well designed product that you do not understand the underliyng processes of design. It's addicting, no matter how you will use it.
+1, the Blender measurements are really good, you can add dowels, realistic screws, make pocket holes at SketchUp, Blender, Fusion or any other CAD software?
Sketchup sucks for that at the free tier. Blender has a screw addon but I haven’t played with it too much. I haven’t messed with fusion because of my experience with sketchup and other non-open-source free software. Blender is so good for mocking things up. In the next video, I’ll go into some of how flexible and powerful it is for mocking ideas up.
@@williamweatherall8333 You can create Spreadsheet at Blender or create BOM, cut-list in other way? I am not familiar with any other CAD software, except my woodworking workbench for FreeCAD. I sa some BOM at Fusion but they are not easy to create, I guess.
@github / dprojects / Woodworking you can use online calculators with your dimensions, cut optimizers they are called. I used one for the first time recently and it was pretty good.
A product for people who don't know how to turn off their notifications.
Fusion 360?
it suffers from the same thing that sketchup does in that they can reduce features any time on it.
The light phone would be perfect if it could stream music from droid, I know it's not meant to be connected but I still want music without a computer
I hate that a light phone takes 2-3 months to get.
I’ve been doing the same with an old iPhone. You can enable black and white mode as well. I went up tethering my dumbed phone iPhone to my new iPhone though. Lol
Don’t listen to the Haters. Good video.
Man, there some days since i’ve discovered about this phone, and i wanna know a couple things about it. If i buy this phone, can i talk with poeple each have any device? And where can i find this phone ?
yes on sms. you can find them either from their website or used on ebay
go up to random person and ask them to put in a passcode and then boom its locked down.
This is great idea lol. Just don't brick your phone!
Does time capsule still work?
the app works still. The process is more convoluted post ios12 unfortunately. You'll need to make yourself a child and then use the time caps app to store the 'parent's' passcode.
Thank you so much!
From what I can tell Apple has released IOS version 12.5.5 just recently on the 5s. Would that mean the "workaround" to the method described here has become available on that device as well? Would in that case a 5c become the new option?
I just did it on iOS 15.4.1 and it seems to be working again
@@williamweatherall8333 Cool I'll try it out!
I would still prefer a kaios device. Especially because of whatsapp... I need whatsapp for my job so kaios phones are perfect for me!
too bad older iPhones no longer work with 5G!
Who would compare Safari, iTunes, Whatsapp, Spotify with a Light phone ? Rather buy smartphone & live a dumb life !
Did you watch the video?
forward with light phone?
And still I am rocking with old nokia E51 without any stupid time consuming shit like your video.
NO EMOJI?!!?!?! How DARE they
This is helpful. I think part of the detox should be not really using text messaging anymore. Breaking that habit.
This is really useful, thank you! What is the name of the app you reference, called time caps? I wasn't able to locate it.
apps.apple.com/us/app/time-caps-a-future-diary/id1195852313
Kind miss the old days of the Blackberry, when it was really just a communications device. Wish Light Phone had a physical keyboard.
Will you post this process for IOS 14, please??
How the heck do I forget the password lol I memorize it too fast because of entering it 3 times
get it using a barcode or something and just know the location of the numbers on the barcode. Say other numbers while you enter it. Then throw out the barcode.
No offense but you seem like the kind of person who cares about things like design, pictures, what people think of your phone choice and whatever. You’re the opposite of the Light Phone’s target market. Why even bother to review it?
your comment is more damning of the light phone than anything I said.
your hands look pretty big, i’m glad you can still use both thumbs on the screen, even if there are typos
this is the trick I've been needing all along!
I need a phone that does not tell me to update every day "to make my user experience better", that does not send me tips or advices if not asked, that leave me alone, but: I want å phone to call friends from, a phone that makes it possible for me to comfortably have long pleasant conversations with whoever I call or are called by. It should be flat and light weighted, fitting into my pocket like the old nokia music express I had in 2008, and it should have the same quality sound. It should have inbuilt alarmclock, no requirement for giving creditcard information or having to download everything from an app-store or pay extra for basic functions. I can use a smart phone or a pad for other functions. So I serious consider a light phone 2.
Yeah, it's difficult to compare the light II to any iPhone because it isn't designed to be a smart phone.
You can buy a Nokia or Microsoft lumia phones, which have the same functionality & work better. They don't have many apps, so you can use it as a minimalist (or dumb) phone, bit it costs waaaay less (not more then 100$)
loool whatever
I think a difference is does it have Bluetooth or can it be a hotspot?
@@Nikki-ks6wi the lumias are pretty much discontinued/obsolete smartphones
Stop slamming them down on the hard surface.. Its Irritating
Any light phones for sale?
Day one on my Light Phone II and I love it coming from an iPhone 11. I think that notification asterisk is brilliant, because it basically tells you there will be no reason to unlock the phone unless you need to call/text someone!
A year later how is it? I’m considering switching at some point but I’m worried about not being able to see pics via text message, receive voicemails, or access a browser. The first two more so than the latter.
@@allforYAHUAH You can tell people through text to describe the image they sent you if you want so you can imagine it. Instead of voicemailing you could call them (it isn't exaxtly the same as voicemailing, but this way you'll battle the addiction of hearing and sendin voicemails), and for the browser you can engage in creative ways to receive information by organizing, e.g. you could note down everything you'll want to research on your notes and after that when you have access to internet via any form (e.g. laptop), you can research all of your notes then and type down the important details for whatever you need the info for.
How has no one brought up the weird screen flashes!? I have been interested in this device, and seen many reviews. No mention of the strange flash
that's just the e-ink resetting every so often. It gets rid of the ghost images. Par for the course on e-ink.
have you ever used a kindle? the screen refresh should bother you as much as the dust on the moon at the end of the day all you do is txt and make calls ...where's the rush?
Wow didn't even know I could do that, everyone knows the normal use of the screen time function is an absolute joke for the addicted mind lmao
The light phone is beatiful. But is very slow
You talk too slow buddy
Thank you for this video! I’ve been toying with getting a minimalist phone but really dislike that they don’t have navigation and some other options like Snapchat to send pictures to family far away. I’ve tried to have good self control and just delete all social media apps and other distracting apps, but I always cave and reinstall them. I’m definitely going to modify my phone like you did so I can force myself to change the relationship I have with my phone and be more present in every day life.
Hey! Reading through the comments here and wanted to let you know they added GPS to their phones now!
@@jessesayre1250 tysm for sharing this info!
Sameeee
I’m using this for my iPhone and also buying a light phone
I would definitely buy the light phone If it had whatsapp. I definitely need whatsapp for work, and that's why I won't buy one
While I understand the intent of this video, I don't think comparing the light phone to a gimped smartphone is very useful for people interested in digital minimalism. The digital minimalism community is already pretty aware of all the different launchers and apps that can help a smartphone become much less distracting but still useful. I would say a majority of people interested in digital minimalism are probably using methods such as yours or products such as the unpluq key rather than the light phone. The light phone is a feature phone. People are well aware that the light phone does not come with navigation or a music streaming service. You can't really see images well on an e-ink screen. The light phone does not advertise being able to do these things. The comparison is not really fair because the phone was never intended to do these things. This video would be much more valuable if it was advertised as a way to minimize distractions on a smartphone while still being useful. Honestly, offering the idea of buying an iPhone 5 and gimping it seems kinda silly when people can just gimp the smartphones they have right now. If you want to compare the light phone to other products, it would be much more useful to compare it to other feature phones on the market that are targeted towards a similar audience such as the Punkt. MP02.
Do you actually understand the intent though? I made it after having used both for this purpose. It at least describes my experience and could have saved me $80 in depreciation and eBay fees on the light phone if someone else had made it. I didn't see anyone using restrictions + digital time capsules to do this when I was looking for a more minimal phone experience. Edit: people were using restrictions and I tried that previously, but I didn't see anyone using digital time capsules is what I mean.
I guess I do not understand the intent, but regardless of that I still stand by my point that comparing a smartphone with manually limited features to a feature phone like the light phone is not very useful. People who have spent more than 1 minute researching the light phone know that light phones are not going to have features such as Spotify or GPS navigation. You spend a portion of your video talking about the features the light phone does not have, when it has never been advertised as having those features in the first place. Would you review the Nokia 3310, complain about the difficulty of using a telephone number pad for texting, and then compare it to iPhone 5 qwerty touchscreen keyboard? It's just a silly and unnecessary comparison. I agree that using time capsules is a neat method of blocking distracting applications. Why wasn't this the focus of the video? You could have reached more people with this topic as the focus of the video and shortened it to the three minute segment of this video discussing your method of blocking distracting apps. You spent half of the video reviewing the features of an older iPhone. If you had problems with the light phone, which it seems like you did, then create a video reviewing it. It is completely valid to give consumers concerns about the difficulty of texting on the light phone. It is completely valid to discuss the capabilities of an advertised feature such as podcasts. However, the light phone is not a smartphone and does not claim to be. Comparing these features to a smart phone is just silly.
@@AlexLopez-nj2sj They advertised music and navigation in their campaign. I knew it didn't have it and that they were supposed to be coming someday, but that was a downside when I used it. Are you familiar with Clay Christiansen's "job to be done" theory? Me and the people who got value from this video were looking for a phone with hard-locked access away from social networks and the web. That was the job to be done. It was the most important job and that was why I was willing to purchase a light phone, but when I realized I could get the "feature" of not being able to use those on a decent phone I was greatly relieved, hence the video. I guess it's somewhat unfair, but that is an asymmetry in the market. It is their problem, not mine, that one can make a better light phone with an old smartphone. Having a camera or nav does not make my phone distracting, the web does. You see what I'm driving at?
I guess that makes a lot of sense, I think when light phone advertises itself as a phone that gets rid of distractions, people take it as being a phone that gets rid of all of the distracting things about a phone rather than just selling a feature phone. Fair enough.
@@AlexLopez-nj2sj I just want to chime in with a quick point that some value i received was that the iphone 5s is ridiculously small. this is a fantastic reason to use it instead of my current smart phone!
