Marvin L. Sims Sr, 66, of 1265 Melrose Avenue in Iowa City, died Friday evening in his home from cancer surrounded by his family. Marvin was born December 11, 1943 to Marvin E. A. and Lucille Petty Sims in Sedalia, Missouri. Marvin was a sports therapist in the department of Sports Medicine at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City, Iowa. He specialized in counseling for student athletes. Marvin graduated from Hubbard High School and enlisted in the United State Air Force as an Air Traffic Control Operator from 1961-1967. He moved to Iowa City, Iowa in 1972 and received both his Bachelors and Masters Degree in Social Work (MSW) from the University of Iowa. Marvin was licensed by the Iowa Board of Substance Abuse Certification (IBSAC) and the Iowa Board of Social Work Examiners. He also had an independent practice as a psychotherapist. Marvin will always be loved and remembered by his children: Aaron Sims (Sheila) of Whitsett, NC, LeAnne Polk of Rockford Il, Marvin Sims Jr. (Cammie) of Liberty Township, OH, Twilla Hicks (David) of Mendota Heights, MN, Forteasha London of Las Vegas, NV and Mica Anders of Iowa City, IA; eight grandchildren; brothers: Eugene E.T. Sims (Willene), Matt Sims (Grace), Herman Sims and Jessie Sims; sisters: Carrie Sims-Brown, Nancy Sims-Van Buren (Don), all of Sedalia, Missouri, Dorothy Mitchell (Robert) of Kingsport, TN and Dale Regina Boggs (Dale P) of Columbia, MO; one aunt, Delores Foster of Denver, CO; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Frank Williams, Jr.

I’ve been listening to this song for a couple of years now and I can’t stop coming back to it every time. So good!!!

This doesn’t do justice to Elkie Brooks’ undoubted talents. The melody is lost in this upbeat, overproduced reading. Fontella Bass did it much better. Sorry , Elkie.

The Late Alphonse and I took classes at the old Actors Studio on Hollywood Boulevard, in the mid 1970’s. He told about his band, and I got one of his albums, with the song “Back Together Again.” He was better than any drummer that I had played with, since the mid-1960’s. His incredible,super speed drumming reminded me of Lenny White, who I got to see live. Alphonse was a cool person, who was very down to earth and a great singer too!

My first ablum purchase, as a kid! I wore groves in it!❤

I never get tired of this top shelf performance.
