Woodturning - Bleached Vase
I made a simple vase from Beech.
I tried a new process Bleaching with Caustic Soda and Hydrogen Peroxide. I did this 3 times (off camera) which didn't really work as much as I wanted.... I'm not entirely sure why.
Shown at the end with some other pieces I've made.

Woodturning - Laburnum Bowl
Переглядів 4,8 тис.4 роки тому
#Woodturning #Woodart #4k #MakersGonnaMake A simple natural edge Laburnum bowl. This was turned green and dried in the microwave; finished with danish oil. The 1st attempt I messed up and went too thin, so the piece cracked when sanding. I also let this dry naturally (in a warm shed!) so it warped into a bit of a shell shape and then cracked a bit more. I tried this again, but dried it in the m...

#ResinArt #Woodturning #EpoxyResin #MakersGonnaMake #Makerscentral A resin bowl with pinecones. Finished using mica powders. This flew off the lathe and i had to patch in the middle of the project. I also lost footage when my SD card corrupted. Not a perfect finish, certainly but getting a bit easier with each piece. As ever, never that simple. Still, i hope you enjoy, please comment either way...

Epoxy Resin Art - Rose Bowl

I made Rose Bowl with Epoxy resin and roses for my daughter to give to her friend as a birthday gift! This is my 1st video and my 1st time editing so a learning curve! We should have used gloves earlier in the video when handling the silica gel. I had issues with a crack and had to patch up with resin and CA glue. Nice view of fingers
Great looking bowl. What make / model lathe do you have? I like the rotating headstock.
@genechiaramonte1112 thank you. Its an Axminster 508 👍🏻
Hate the clicking…can’t finish. Love the technique
Stumbled on this by accident and this is exactly what I have been looking for, regarding a finish. Looks amazing!!!
@gazsto thanks. Yes it still looks decent after a few years so it's a reliable finish. 👍🏻 cheers
Stunningly beautiful.
when starting, do you have a ratio of thickness to width to determine shape and size?
I like it,nice piece.
Thank you. 👌🏻
Nice job, well done!
Cheers Kevin. It's still a style of finishing I like, although will split opinion.
hi
As a potter for over 45 years I was always a fan of wooden bowls, 1970 shop class. Appreciate the beauty.
Absolutely beautiful! Love the big knot design. ❤❤❤
Thank you. 👌🏻
That's a stunning piece nicely done something I'll have to try, Kind regards From Will 👍
Thanks Will
Great job John just found your channel subd and 👍.
Cheers. 👊🏻
It's a yes from me...
Thank you. 👍🏻
Omg! I learned more in 3 minutes in watching your video for figuring out end grain log turning than some half hour videos with taking/ cutting pieces off etc .... Thank you!!!
wow! great project, lotsa learning
What bowl gouge is that? Who makes it?
It's an Axminster 1/2 (uk measurements) , but made by Crown. M2 steel nothing special 👍🏻
We just had two giant walnut trees blow down so I have a lot of walnut on hand. Great job on the piece 👌
Cheers James, that's a lot of wood. Not a all jealous... 🤔. just watch the acidity in the wood, I've a feeling it can rust your lathe bed quickly if you turn it green.
nice work. ty subscribed
Thank you. 👌🏻
Привет Я с Беларуси, действительно КРАСИВОЕ изделие . Лайк и подписка.
Oh my god this is so beautiful!!! I am an absolute beginner! I am learning from you!! Was it a green laburnum? I am going soon to cut a fallen laburnum tree (still alive) and can't wait to try! Thank you!! 🙏
Thank you. Yes it was green laburnum. 👍🏻
@@johnsherlock1920 oh thank you!! I want to try too ❤️. Love your video. You make it easy but it's not lol 😁
Hi John, great vid! Can I just ask what video equipment you used to film your vids. Just starting out.. Many thanks.
Thank you. Canon 90d and rode mic. But if just starting most of the recent phones have excellent video / slow mo etc.
The bowl is very high fashion design, as if or like it should fit right in a French dress designer’s shop for pins and such.
😁 I hadn't seen that before, but I do now. Thanks for the comment 👍🏻
no talk
It’s a beautiful piece either way but are you sure this is walnut?? I’ve worked with lots of walnut and lots of maple. And this looks much more like maple to me.
Cheers Luke, that 's what my tree surgeon friend told me who had to cut it down! Thanks for the comment.
Walnut looks much different where I’m from. Not just the sapwood and heartwood but the bark is very rough. This looks like some other type of nut tree… to me it actually looks more like sweet gum
Fairly new to turning...may I ask what kind of spur(?) was in the tail stock? Thanks!
Hi Ken. the brand is Axminister it came with my lathe, i think it's a cone/spur drive that you can remove the cone on to use as a ring center.

Question: I’m new to using a epoxy resin. Put 2 pine cones in a dried water bottle, put in pressure pot. Tried to turn into the handle for pizza cutter. Seems very flexible and has a ton of cracks. Fill in cracks only to have more appear. How long should I leave in pressure pot? What am I doing wrong? Thank you.
Hi Leo, I'm not sure. It shouldnt be flexible at all, though so hasn't set. Could be a few things. We're the cones properly dry? Did you mix the resin thoroughly , the brand I used you have to stir for a few minutes. It normally tells you the hardening time but the stuff I used I always leave 24 hours. If closer to slow-set resim , then could be a few days curing time . Hope it works out 👍🏻
@@johnsherlock1920 I’m going to let it alone for a few days and see if that helps. Thank you.
Can you make few to sell ?
Beautiful
Thanks Georgina 👍🏻
Stunning love it
Cheers Shane 👍🏻

human head profile of nose lips forhead going in circle around the human sized head could be woodturned, then noses cut out, or nose material removed till looks like nose , how many can be one , two ,tree, four. eigth sixteen even more noses. iuy
👍💯😽🙋
nice piece and so thin!! WOW if I tried that it probably would fly apart
That has also happened when I've forgotten to stop and check the depth / width
Lovely looking bowl John, great finish and technique, thanks for sharing. Only just come across your channel and subscribed.
Cheers Barry ! Could be worse and it's lasts. Still like the effect thanks for the sub
Love you John😘
So fantastic 😻😻😻😻😻🥰🥰
Question if I may, as I started "nuking" rough bowls myself, are you getting any cracks or warpage? And how long are you microwaving them for? Thanks!
Сколько процентов воды вы испаряет из готового изделия?
Good stuff. What were the colour pigment that you used what brand? Thanks
Thanks 👍🏻 it was Hampshire Sheen, Ruby.
Dude. That music has got to go.
How did you attach the resin block to the lathe?
Hi just a big faceplate and screws
Will the wood accept polyurethane gloss after you wipe off the gilt stuff?
I would have thought so as it takes Danish oil. But I haven't used poly before.
Cu ce le dați să nu crape
I didnt give this anything for cracking. It can be ok if it's thin and dried in the microwave like this; depends in the moisture content , species of wood etc
