This channel is dedicated to all things I find fun, which includes but isn't limited to boating and campervanning. In 2016 we bought a Renault Traffic van and have been converting it ever since. In 2006 my family bought its first sailing boat, and we've just carried on from there! We have used ribs, and most recently acquired a Merry Fisher 755 cabin boat.
All of the above will feature on this channel, plus more!
Enjoy!

HOW TO CHANGE THE POLLEN FILTER | BMW X1 E84
Just a very quick and short, and pretty rubbish self isolation video of how to replace your pollen filter on a BMW X1 E84. It was going to include the air filter, but that didn't arrive, so when it does, I'll do a video for that too!

So this pretty much just sums up what was left of the summer after we took delivery. We had to teach ourselves how to skipper a boat again, as we're only really used to driving ribs, and GRP boats pose a different style of driving, more windage etc. We've just been getting to know the Merry Fisher, and enjoying ourselves taking it easy. Hi Tom What obd reader do you use ?
I was using a Carista - good bit of kit
Il Filtro abitacolo tutti gli x1 e84 lo portano esterno per cambiarlo ?
Once mines off it won’t stay on now ! Wish I’d never bothered, my advice is don’t bother! 😮
Can't figure out how you attached the wall panels. Seemed to skip that bit..
Is it correct the bed has to legally be 6ft for an approval from DVLA in UK?
Trafalger wharf whoop whoop great boat !
Common problem
Grand video until the couch cover
Don’t worry that didn’t last long, and it wasn’t deliberate. It was a cheap sofa and came with that design. Wasn’t by choice for sure. Has since been replaced with a custom memory foam red covered cushion.
Nice work!! :) I built Trafic too!ua-cam.com/video/ncpo7FuZH_Y/v-deo.html&ab_channel=Univers-Design

Max speed?
Does anyone know if it matters if your steering wheel is left or right hand side as andream seem to be under the impression their products won't fit right hand side steering comfiguration .
Great Video, now i know what needs to be done. I'm trying to do this with my Renault Master, its not moving at all :´)
Great video - Looking at a 755 or 795 . Can you road trailor that thing legally? Looks like biggest SBS trailor is 6.8m BET - Boat eye to transom.Does it come on that?
The 755 was on a trailer absolutely fine but obviously for the larger licence rating. It was a big unit. Can’t say about the trailer as I borrowed one, I work in the industry so was able to pull some favours. It was a twin axle trailer that was required. Was a big unit but possible.
@@tomhphotographic Thanks Tom. Good to know, watched a few of your other videos. Definitely a kndred spirit. Keep them coming!
Hi. I just found this video. Was the van stuttering and pumping out black smoke when it did this as?
Hi, I’m not entirely sure as I didn’t run it much until I found the broken wires, but I don’t think so, the engine has always been pretty good actually.
Glad I got a blow up awning looks a right pain don't fancy a need to get on the roof of van won't do it any good nice extra space though
It’s not that bad but does mean you are basically camping too (have to put up a tent lol) And I don’t always need to get on the van I was just being dim that day and trying something new.
The worst piece of kit all van lifers use are USB outlets. Even when you are not using them they are draining current
Makes sense, I would only worry if I used it for weeks at a time. Only a weekend user really so it’s not such a big deal
Nah, you can get them with an integral power on/off button on them.
Your mint m8 love down to earth people like you I enjoyed
Thanks :)
compressing the insulation like that compromises its insulation properties
I’m aware, but in places had no choice and didn’t want to use expanding foam or anything. It may not be 100 per cent but have had no problems in the last 4 years use!
What year model is this?
Impressive!
How much was the table and where did you get it from
Where did you get your table from?
DO NOT DO IT THIS WAY. I have a Vivaro and if you remove the lugs on the roof beams (8 if I remember) use a little silver bubble wrap between, them you can minimise the internal height loss. Use 6mm ply covered in a good quality 4 way stretch wall carpet. For the same reason, with the floor, one layer of silver and then screw down 10mm marine ply and carpet. You will end up with a "sit up straight" ceiling height and I am 6ft tall. Also dont panel over the window cut outs they provide extra internal space and a good quality carpet material and carpet on the floor, provides ample heat and sound insulation. Of course rockwool all the cavities prior to paneling, but our van has enough insulation, a lot of extra space inside and has retained a great ceiling height. As for electrics, I have no solar, no second battery, no split charge system and have never had a problem. I wire my cold box to only work when the engine is running, or use a leccy hook up and that has saved me a lot of money and complication. I only have USB charging points and a couple of LED lights which use nothing. I have actually now fitted the larger battery at the last change and do keep a lithium power/jump start pack just in case, but have only used it once to help someone else out. The downside of my system is that I lose 1/2 litre of milk per year and buy my chilled beer in a bar...and socialise.
Hello, I have seen the springs for the trunk opening, you can pass me the purchase link, thank you and congratulations for the videos from Spain.
Looks like emeralds struts
So funny at the end with the both of with your phones in your hands 😂 I hardly touch mine unless It's a must, I'm probably around your dads age though. At home I'm glue to my PC though 😂🤪🤣👍
I promise we do in fact talk to each other! There’s a fair bit of social media with the van to be honest and we like sharing our trips!
@@tomhphotographic I just thought it was funny because when I take my daughter out on a day trip she's never far from her phone 🙂 As I said, at home I'm glued to my PC. I wasn't having a go at you both if you thought that. 👍 Good vid!
BRILLIANT!!!
4:36 You're welcome.
👍
Do you have a link for the unit you put in?
Foam i a van😬 It sucks water and Will mould.
There no foam in this van at all? If you’re referring to the insulation it’s recycled plastic bottles, so is all plastic and doesn’t absorb water. Either way this video is a few years old, and the van is not damp nor mouldy!
Where did you get the gator from?
Are you a member of any of the facebook groups for tvps? I cant remember exactly but someone one of the groups like tvp addicts etc made them
Which 1 is this so i can get it mate
Hi, i have a question; how does your radio get the sound from android unit? Where is your aux connection (I see your front aux port is empty..)?
Coincidence? I’m in Portsmouth too... still got the van?
nice - thanks for thanks for taking the time to make this vid on top of doing the van! ha ha
Did you wire the camera to the reverse lights? If so could you advise me on doing this
Hi how much insulation did you need ?? Gonna be doing mine soon
good to see you got the 'itch free' stuff
Been struggling so much with the ceiling in my SWB vivaro. How and where did you attach the wooden frame? every time I try, it comes loose and falls, cheers!
So I used pallet wood and screwed that directly into the roof frame of the van. I used self tappers. I screwed the wood into an H formation along the sides of the van and I’m pretty sure it was only one section that went across the van. There seemed to be little metal platforms that are levelled out so when you put wood on them either end, they’re flat so you can screw stuff into it. If you have Instagram, check out @renaulttraficcamperconversion, I’m pretty sure if you go back far enough they’re should be pictures of me mid way through doing it that will show you what I did!
@@tomhphotographic Thats great stuff thanks for that Tom, I'll check out your instagram
If the last section of the pontoon could pivot open this would allow the operators easier access to the marina, currently they have to manually drag the boats up and down both sides of the pontoon if an owner requests there boat be put into the marina.
Cool unit, just received one shipped from China as well, I think I’ll make a video out to show you, I got the version that looks as original, I mean the unit integrated in the dash
Nice one !
Nice Tom 👌
What is the best way to route the cables from leisure battery to the starter battery so they are hidden?
Ki Talbot I just went under the passenger seat, managed to get it under the carpet padding stuff under there. In my case I’ve got the small bulkhead in place and they only had to go through that. So behind my seats and between the bulkhead is a small gap which contains my wiring etc. However I’m going to reorganise all this soon as my bulkhead needs to chopping to accommodate a swivel base for the two passenger seats, so stay tuned for some new videos soon after a winter of no videos!
@@tomhphotographic that sounds perfect. Mine has a swivel seat. I'll look out for it, cheers
Con esa bandera paso a ser la peor del mundo !
Is this registered and insured as a plain van? Or was it changed to a motorhome to insure? Thanks
This is still classed as a panel van, I haven’t changed it, because a) I couldn’t be bothered to deal with the DVLA, and b) even when the DVLA were letting people convert vans to campers, I didn’t qualify with the features in the van. There’s no permanent sink or cooking facilities etc. So I’m insured as a modified van, which is turning out to be cheaper and covers any mod except putting a larger engine in. Give greenlight insurance a ring if you need it :)
@@tomhphotographic which bits did you claim as modifications? Also, did you find the wiring and electrical bits difficult? I am new to this and am looking at doing a similar style, but hopefully a slightly longer van. Thanks again Edit - also, has much gone wrong with your van? I'm looking at ones around £2.5k, not sure which would be the best to go for.
Wow, I just checked the MOT history of your van, it has an amazing amount of miles on it! I was looking at 150k mile vans and being worried about the mileage... Yours makes me think otherwise!
George Lewis so I claimed everything that wasn’t standard. So I said I put an electrical system in the back, x2 aux batteries, folding table, carpeted sides, wooden bed frame, carpeted floor, insulated sides, literally anything I added. This includes alloys if you get them as they weren’t standard on vans these ages. I’m about to get the steel wheels painted and will let them know that too. Greenlight are awesome and helpful so you won’t have any issues. Will you be using it as a daily or just as a campervan as and when? That’s what I do so it’s cheaper anyway.
George Lewis I’ve had a lot of age related bits go, suspension mounts, diff seals, power steering pipe, tracking rod ends, brake callipers and I could go on. But I paid £1150 for it, and the engine I’ve inherited was engine number 3 for this van in its whole life. Depends how much love you want to give it. I’ve put so much in that I know mine is up to scratch now and how much I’ve spent on it.
Hello from Germany, i want to make the same bed in my Vivaro. Can you give me the dimensions please?
Hi Mica, Im really sorry I dont, as it didn't occur to me at the time to make a note of them, but it also is custom sized for my van with my fold up table, so it wouldn't necessarily be the size you needed. Im sorry I cant help more!
@@tomhphotographic thank you
0:18 god i laughed so much at that rolling thing
Got to be honest that made my dad look a bit special, but It was cold last December!
Hi tom .... do you have any dimensions for this build ?
Hi :) I also would love to get some numbers 🤗 Bought my Renault Trafic just a week ago and will start the project in the next weeks ☺️
Hi sorry to have taken ages to reply. Unfortunately I don’t as I wasn’t organised enough, however it would have been difficult as we came into a variety of problems along the way. For instance it turns out the ply on the left of the screen that the bed was going to be against, had a bump in the middle which meant we had to change the measurements so the bed would fit between that and the table. Also it’s measured to fit next to my table, so will depend if you have a table or not too. Sorry that that isn’t much help, but a lot of this stuff I very much just winged, and this required the help of my dad who is a handyman by trade!
Paula Hartlmüller good luck with your build!
is that 10cm thick insulation sir?
I do believe it is, its the standard dialls recycled plastic bottle loft insulation you can buy from B&Q, but its also super flexible and squashable so was able to pop it in the tightest of spaces.
