A fascinating story of how a smaller nation managed to not just stand its ground and defend its independence against a bigger neighbor, but also become a formidable player on the world's stage. cities named "White Castle" are so because their castle had whitewashed rubble walls, like most castle and town walls that weren't made of cut stone. So you have White Castle or Castell Gwynn in Wales, Weissenburg in Bavaria, Belgrad in Serbia and Fehérvár in Hungary, Gyulafehérvár in Transylvania - which all mean "white castle".

I a sephardi from London travelled from Lisbon with friends to be in Belmonte for the day o f the dedication of Beit Eliyahu synagogue in Belmonte.For me it was a deeply touching visit being there for such a sacred occasion.

10:50 "The original Templar structure" in Monsanto was itself built on top of the original pre-Roman _Castro,_ which the Romans built an _Opiddum_ over, only for the Suebi and Visigoth to occupy it until the Muslims took it from them, before finally D. Afonso Henriques gave it to the Templars, so, no harm done there that somebody else came along and used the stones, the original Lusitani structure was long gone by then but not the people. Great video!

Beautiful place. Just Gorgeous. That massive granite Cathedral in the Historical centre of the city,its breathtaking. PS: Spain didint "gifted" Brasil to Portugal,because the King D.Joao ll already knew that Brasil was there,when they signed the treated. In the map of the "Tratado de Tordesilhas" in 1494, you can see perfectly the Land that its called Brasil today. Thats why D.Joao ll insisted in changing the line of separation,and thus increasing the distance where the Portuguese Captains could go. To make sure the land that already was knew by Portuguese Sailors,belong to Portuguese Domain,in a short time. And in the 1st of April of 1500,Pedro Álvares Cabral, officialy "Discovers" Brasil. And the rest is history.

I m fron Bragança but l live in Madrid. Portuga🇵🇹 is beautiful and Spain 🇪🇸 too.
