Autoharps and autoharp parts. Howard Solomon, Ph.D., plays songs including some of his own and some standards on autoharps purchased from ebay and other inexpensive sellers and then rebuilt into usable instruments.
The Eggnog Song
On 6 December, 2024, I was getting ready to take over performing when Mitch, my friend on the stage, announced that "Harpin Howard is getting ready to perform a song about eggnog." I had my set picked out and didn't have any songs about eggnog in my repertoire, so I wrote this song that's ostensibly about eggnog, but is really about the high price of eggs. Beating inflation and bringing down the price of eggs is sometimes believed to be the most significant promise that USA presidential candidate Donald Trump made in his successful 2024 campaign for office. With this song I make a promise to myself to see how well he handles this high priority promise. I hope you enjoy or get a laugh or have something to think about after hearing The Eggnog Song.

This is a Rock Mostly performance of Hoyt Axton's "Never Been to Spain." Three Dog Night had a big hit with this in 1971

Another from the Rock Mostly recording on 11/23/2024. I think this performance may be a little choppy as I first heard of this song only 6 days before I decided to play it for Rock Mostly. But with encouragement, I figured out enough to get this to work out as an autoharp piece. Although it was written by Tom Cochran in 1991, it caught on when it showed up being played by the Rascal Flatts band...

I know of this song from Chicago Bluesman Freddy King. Originally played by Freddy on Guitar, I transposed it to Autoharp for the Rock Mostly Zoom gathering of 11/16/2024.

Like many people, I learned this rockin blues songs from George Thorogood and the Destroyers. After George McCoy played a song called "Hound Dog Man", I decided to play this song in the same dog theme. I was informed aat the end that the actual author was Hank Williams.

This is a straightforward copy of the Hollies' 1972 hit song, played a little bit slower. It was played for Rock Mostly on 6.22.2024. Our MC told us that the Hollies had parted with Graham Nash by this time.

I never owned a motorcycle or even wanted to. I fell off a bicycle a few times when that was my ride. Didn't feel very good about it. And riding on the street, the handlebars extended just far enough to snag the outside rearview mirror of a parked car, and concrete to fall on feels just as hard when you're sixty as it does when you're thirteen. But when the weather is good and the motorcycles c...

At Rock Mostly on Sat June 15, my MLAG friend and excellent harp player Harvey announced that he was taking the cowards way out with his first selection by playing his selection to the MLAG competition. I followed suit with my own MLAG piece, but brought back the lyrics. The MLAG competition is still a challenge to me, but I keep on trying and expect to be back again in 2025. Anyway, the song i...

A Huge Hit by Jay and the Americans. Tells the story of a man being tempted almost to his own demise. But he manages in the end to evade his pursuer. Written by Toom Boyce and Bobby Hart. And it forms a perfect transition into La Bamba.

Thinking that I was supposed to sing and play at the UU Congregation of DeKalb and that the song ought to be about generosity, I didn't find much. This song is by a band known, I think, as South 65. I' was working with the lyrics and chords for only a day when this was recorded. I hope you enjoy.

It's nearing the end of February, 2024. Vladimir Putin's Russia has been two years invading the democratic Republic of Ukraine. The destruction is horrendous. The peril to United States' security in the face of a Russian takeover is obvious to any citizen with his or her eyes open. Everyone, that is, except for the Republican members of House of Representative who believe wholeheartedly that su...
I love that song too. Thanks for sharing your rendition.
This reminds me of “Uncle Teddy” and his dog on the Nitty Gritty Dirt Bands opening to “Mr .Bojangles” many years ago. I know Doc knows their version of Jerry Jeff’s song. Honestly, your rendition is ART. Art in its purest form is innocence because it’s based upon 3 chords in this case and singing truth.
I’ve had been playing guitar 40 years in pursuit of perfection before discovering it. Perfection lies in innocence. Doc’s interpretation of “Never been to Spain” is borderline perfection because it’s honest. “3 chords and the truth ,“ Doc, I think you’ve nailed it, your rendition and choice of instrumentation was beautiful. Thank you, I needed that.
Muy mal
Wrong!
I’d like to see you do better.
You got it Doc. A lot of folks say Willie Nelson can't sing either.
Good dude, keep doing this work and you'll someday will be famous
kind of cool
Go Doc. We love it!
Ur soo god
Very very good
Thank you.
Awesome job !!! Also, always glad to hear folks keeping JB alive somewhere other than the flashdrive playing non-stop in my car - LOL !!!
Fab! I really enjoyed this :)
It's on-tap for the service tomorrow. Rewritten several times. I have a clearer mind about how I want it to sound. That's the kind of thing that happens with me when I've taken a song to near mastery and then start making more changes.
❤❤❤
A true joy! Thank you
Doc knows the autoharp and performs well
Terrible
I love it. That's all, I just love it. Thanks for sharing with the world.

These are the gems one finds on the internet... folks showing how much a song means to them. Stephen stills has reached so many people. Well done sir !!!
Thanks Doc
Such an amazing song.
Howard - I have no Idea how you got ended up in my suggestions. When I clicked the link I thought it was an old school video uploaded from 2008 - I don't know what you filmed this on, I don't know what you just sang - but I liek it - all of it hahaha I will one day do a Piano version! Have a lovely thanksgiving - love from one guy in the UK
Thank you Jonathan! By all means let me know when the piano version gets placed onto youtube.
real good Doc !
Thanks!
I enjoyed bopping along to the original performance, and I'm enjoying it again on the replay. Thanks for posting this.
Thanks Harvey, Rock Mostly brings out some fun songs to try. I always have a good time there.
Great interpretation. Thanks for sharing
Whats Up ❓ Great talent, thanks 👍
Nicely done. I liked that.
Thanks Harvey! I was happy with the way this turned out. It was even better in church, but that didn't get recorded.
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤👏👏👏👏this is amazing. Thank you, I needed this
Hard to imagine anybody NEEDING this. But it's fun, and I wonder whether the lord has raelly got the toe.
@@dochoward00001 oh no, I definitely needed this. Didn’t know till I found it. 😂❤️ it inspires me to pick up my autoharp again. And recently life has dealt me things that make me question whether he’s got the toe too . This will be fun to play and sing.
@@Phoenixhunter157 Ahah. Inspiration for picking up an autoharp again. Go for it!! If you need help or inspiration, you have my email. I don't know where you are, but I have a zoom room where I could give you advice . If you are anywhere near DeKalb, IL, I also do repair. And if you want some inspiration, the next Rock Mostly will be on the morning of 12/31. On request, I'll send you the URL that morning.
Such a lovely song. I've played it for our kids to calm down before sleep. I can't wait to play this for the kids!!!
Thank you for the compliment. You may want to tell the kids that the instrument I'm playing is an autoharp. There aren't many of them around, but they give what I think is a considerable beauty for your ears to enjoy.
please contact me at dochoward00001@gmail.com
I enjoyed that.
Good performance
Definitely needs an open stage.
Thanks Mark!
Keep it up SOLOMON

What are you trying to say?
I enjoyed your rendition. I gotta say this is probably the first time I've heard Lynnard Skynnard played on an autoharp. Bravo, and keep on keeping on.
Of course I like it. I DID it. If you like it, you're welcome to thumb it up or write a comment.
Love it!!
Love it!
Love your style of playing ✌❤
Thanks Himadri!
I like it. You did a really good job with it, and, I love the tag line.
That rocks! Harp sounds good. (I can't see enough of it to tell what kind it is. What kind is it?)
Thanks Harvey. It's an Orthey Superstar from 2007.
Great job. And Amen to that. Some day, we'll all be together again. What a jam that will be.
My dad taught me the first part of this song as a very little girl and thought it hilarious to have me recite it for his friends. I had never heard the whole thing. Thanks so much for putting this song up, great memories of my late father!
What a great song and performance!
Thanks Kevin. Glad to put it online and glad you enjoyed.
Good song. Good performance.
As I recall, you performed this one at MLAG 2019. Very nice performance then and now.
Thanks for the compliment! As required at MLAG, it was instrumental. On Zoomchurch I can add the lyrics. IMO, the song is haunting when performed without lyrics but has a better outreach when people know through the words what it's about.
A creative, unusual approach! I like this, really!
Great song! (Sounds kinda like some moments in my life).
Boy. That takes me back about 50 years (+/-). Thanks for posting this one.
