1984 Dodge Rampage - Part 5 - Rear Shocks
With the brakes all wrapped up on the Rampage, its time to start on the rear suspension. Time to get the original shocks removed, and some new shocks in place and the car back down on all four tires.
If you are looking for how to replace the rear shocks on a 1984 Dodge Rampage, check my web site out for some close up pictures of the work.

1984 Dodge Rampage - Part 4 - Front Brake Fiasco

After finishing up the rear drum brakes, I decided it was best to just go on and get all the brakes done and complete the fronts. That did not work out very well. Turned into a much larger project that I thought it would. To make things worse, most of the video I recorded got corrupted on the SD card. This is what I was able to put together from the video I did have. If you are looking for how ...

It's time to start the winter project, and that means brakes. Specifically rebuilding the rear drum brakes on my 1984 Dodge Rampage. Let's just say it doesn't quite go to plan, and 38 year old brake lines do not like to come off as easily as I had hoped they would. Oh well, its a learning opportunity right? It's finally time to start on my next project. Introducing my 1984 Dodge Rampage 2.2. I am going to take you on a tour of this unique and somewhat rare trucklet and show you what I will be up to over the winter.

    Great video. Stealth and 3000GT are identical. I work on them and own 2. History (1980s-90s): Dodge partnered with Mitsu due to Chrysler's business objective. GM partnered with Toyota and Ford partnered with Mazda. To make the long story short, Mitsu had the quality and technology so Chrysler had Mitsu design and produce everything, except for the Stealth's exterior design. Dodge did a slight modification of exterior but dimensions were same. Everything else was produced by Mitsu and stamped with Mitsu's 3 diamond logo. Dodge stamped Chrysler logo on exterior sides only. Ultimately, freed up Dodge in 1992 so that they could focus on their ultimate super car...Viper. Reduced some of the high tech items from Mitsu by simplifying and focusing on brute power and cornering...thus, the Viper came to dominate against all high performance cars...

      Good luck with your project, and be sure to check out some of my other videos on pulling the engine. Its not a simple task, and putting it back in is even more of a pain. But the sense of accomplishment you get from doing it yourself is unbelievable. If I was buying the engine stand again today, I would spend the extra $100 for the one with the built in rotisserie. Having the engine flip on you if you are a one man show is scary. Good luck to you and thanks for subscribing!

    Hey so sweet Stealth! Not that I know it all but your cv boots were already torn before you noticed. Especially the pass. side one; the joint looked very dry. Oil-based grease inherantly destroys rubber and the only fix is to replace the leaker. I bought both front cv axles for my vintage Datsun 4x4 from Rock Auto and the lasted about TWO MONTHS before they BOTH tore on the outboard boots.

    @A Geeks Garage, I know it’s been a long time since you’ve finished the Stealth. But do you remember having trouble removing the CV Axles from the transmission? Were they easy to remove or did you have to use any special techniques to get them off in one piece? I did watch your other video on getting them off but in that video they were already out of the transmission just dangling. I watched the other engine removal video to see if there was any explanation there, but there wasn’t any. If you could please help that would be greatly appreciated. I’m going to try to rebuild my transmission this spring when I get the car back from out of storage and I want to make sure I don’t fall into any pitfalls that I know I can avoid. Also, I don’t know if you remember me commenting on one of your videos from earlier this year about the Stealth being finished. But I finally did get my Stealth and I am in love with that car. It’s the most fun I’ve had with a car ever. It just needs some loose ends tied up and it’ll be in great shape! Thanks in advance for your help. (I’ve researched that there are circlips that hold the cv axles to the transmission. That’s my main concern with removing the axles. How to get those clips off so I can simply pull the axle out of the transmission.)

    • @AGeeksGarage
      @AGeeksGarage 9 місяців тому

      @kiweeltyler3586 yeah, removing the CV axels from the transmission was a pain! I ended up using a pry bar that I had in the basement (one for wood working... not the best tool but it did work). This guy here: ua-cam.com/video/nVxDgcTJOHE/v-deo.html used a similar method to what I did. I think maybe I would try using a tie-rod separator if I had to do it again (although I am not sure that this is the best tool for the job either ... ) Good luck on your project. Were there any lights that would display on your dash when this issue was occurring, or was the vehicle only able to tell you there was an issue through the obd tool?

      Mine is currently having issues of the vehicle stalling within a second or two after starting it up. It does not happen on cold start, only when the engine is already warm, and I have found out that I can relearn the idle by revving gently to 2k rpms, and slowly down to 1k rpms, and letting it go. Then it will go back down to about 5 to 600 sound like its about to stall and then idle again. I am new to the field so does that sound like it could have to do with the TPS starting to go bad, a bad fuse, or something else? I have replaced my vacuum lines so I don't think I have any air leaks right now. I would test it myself like you did in the video but I do not have the tools. Any advice is appreciated, and thanks for the great repair videos you've made, they help a lot!

      Unfortunately there was no indicator light light that said "the TPS sensor is bad" although what you are describing does sound similar to what I was seeing. If you have access to a volt-meter there is a way to "read" the diagnostic codes from the car. (if you don't have one you should be able to pick one up fairly cheap at a Home Depot/Lowes or Amazon ... depending on where you live) This page details how to do it: www.stealth316.com/2-diagcodes91-93.htm Its a little difficult to do, but it is manageable. Hope this helps in some way.

      @@AGeeksGarage awesome, I will look into that. I did some more looking and saw that it could also be the IAC, and the throttle body may need a service since Im at 63k miles

      @@connorarndt1726 yeah, I ended up replacing both the IAC as well as the TPS sensor. The TPS sensor seemed to cause issues when the engine was cold, and the IAC problems showed up once the engine was warmed up. One quick test I remember for the IAC is at idle, try turning the steering wheel from "lock to lock" (all the way left to all the way right), the IAC should respond and up the idle of the engine to compensate for the extra load on the engine. Would love to hear what you end up finding.

      @@AGeeksGarage Im not sure if that test will affect it bc the vehicle dies as soon as I start it when its warm. But I will see if it affects the rpm after I relearn it. I have noticed after relearning it, it will still run rough with a slight misfire for a few minutes and then eventually go back to normal.
