S3 E11 Practicing the Welcome Prayer (Because what if everything really is for our healing?)
Переглядів 546Рік тому
In this episode I'm sharing a prayer I pray almost daily these days. When my spiritual director first pointed me to this practice, honestly, I didn't like it at all. But I knew I needed it. With time, it's shaping, healing and deeply challenging me in all the best (but not comfortable) ways. This prayer invites us to a giant trust fall, inviting us to fall into the arms of Love working all thin...

S3 E9 Encountering the Good Samaritan (Because to love our neighbor we need to see our neighbor)
Переглядів 2052 роки тому
In this imaginative prayer experience, we engage with Jesus' story of the Good Samaritan. As you watch the story unfold, you'll consider the question, Who is your neighbor? Who, in your life today, is the outsider, the one religious leaders might pass by on the road? Jesus makes the outsider the hero of this story, the one who shows mercy. How are you being invited to show mercy, to move to the...

S3 E7 A Practice for Releasing Burdens (Because we're all feeling a little weary these days)
Переглядів 3992 роки тому
In this prayerful, peaceful space, you're invited to release your burdens. What burden or weight are you carrying? What might you gain in releasing this to God? As we meditate on these verses from The Message version of Matthew 11, we'll consider with Jesus how we might learn to live more freely and lightly, even today. “Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with...

    As Father Greg Boyle says, “ We stand in awe of what people have had to carry rather than judgement in how they have carried it”. That’s the extravagant tenderness of God. Thank you for this interview.

    I love the illustration of your hands, neither clinched nor too loose, rather carefully cupped to tenderly hold each one you are communicating with--to let the chaff fall to the ground, but to keep the treasures.

    I know this will come across like the epitome of arrogance, but I feel like it's God's fault for our broken images of Him. He doesn't seem to speak to us in ways we can easily discern, recognize or understand. Nor does He particularly seem to care about our finances, physical health, mental health, etc. Then on top of that, we have a Bible that's hard to understand because it has a million different interpretations and translations. And each person who adds their interpretation claims to be led by the same Holy Spirit everyone else claims to be led by. Why would God make this so damn confusing? Or allow it to be? A loving, earthly father would never allow so much confusion in his relationship with his children. And if one of his children didn't seem to understand his love for them, he would find a way to communicate it in a way that the child would recognize. It really seems that humans are more loving than God.

      Thanks for your honestly. You don't sound arrogant to me at all. A living relationship with God often feels murky. Certainly there's lots in the Church and the world to make us question. Doubts, questions and disappointments are real, and I believe God welcomes all of this into our relationship. I guess I just want to say you're not alone and none of this is easy. I pray you find a renewed place of connection with Jesus that roots you ever more deeply in his love for you.

      @@SusanCarson Thank you Susan and happy new year! I appreciate the reply, especially since this video is a few years old. I know I'm thinking about this in a western/Greek mindset, but this is all I know. This is who I am. I just don't understand why God doesn't speak to us in direct ways. I'm not good with the subtle, still, small, mysterious, word picture, obscure type of communication that God seems to use. Does He want us to treat our relationship with Him like a scavenger hunt? I've heard people say that part of the wonder of getting to know God is going through this treasure hunt. But surely people experience failures and mistakes along the way of trying to hear God. So I believe the cons outweigh the pros. I'd much rather have God speak to me in a clear, unmistakable voice. Just like a human speaking to me.

    • @SusanCarson
      @SusanCarson Рік тому

      I'd love that, too@@WheelEstate. In this life we have more mystery than certainty. And there's lots of room for error. I've certainly missed many times over the years. It sounds like there's a desire in your heart for me, and I'm trusting God will meet you in that desire. So many things get in the way, but God's love is always seeking after us.

    I so hurt for Wm Paul , he’s become family to me although we’ve never met and yet I feel his pain. I understand beauty for ashes now. I would have never wanted him to suffer especially to the degree he did just so I could see healing and restoration but because God has healed him it gives me so much more hope.

    I recently joined a breathwork practice that gave me surprising peace and settled my anxious and weary Mama nervous system. At the end I wanted to continue but felt it didn’t quite check all the boxes for me… I wanted to honor ans connect with the One who created me. I wasn’t quite sure until the end, but then it was clear. From the calming and inviting space to the peace-filled, slow and present voice of Ms. Carson, this is an answer to my unspoken prayer.
