I'm disabled but saving hard for a van. What it will mean to me will be freedom to go out, to go away on holidays whenever i want and not have to worry about transport or finding suitable hotels etc. I know you might call me a weekend warrior and probably not a proper van dweller but to me it will bring a fantastic change to my life. Norwich hey...? I'm near Downham Market which is near Kings Lynn.

I'm a weekend warrior. I love it. The main reason is tourism on the cheap. I tend to use service stations so I can grab a shower and campsites also. I chose a Renault traffic for my conversion so I could still use it as a car, parking in multi-storey carparks, getting under height barriers, 100% black van and less obvious for the more stealthy stopovers. A lot of people do it full time for financial reasons which I would agree with but I managed to find a way to live in a house for only £450 a month including mortgage and bills so I cant really justify moving out. It's called the rent a room scheme and its tax free income for up to £7,500 for renting a room out in your house. A lot of people say they couldn't share their house but thats the other point of my van, when I want my own space I just go off in that. I'm sure van dwellers are spending about the same amount so this was an alternative to full time van life but with full access to it also.

The biggest thing for me having a van, as a weekend warrior mainly, is the saving I make by not staying in B&Bs - it's not only the expense, but the privacy it affords me to do what I want when I want i.e. Brekkie in a B&B is usually time restricted (say 8 to 10am) - I can fart when I like 😂😂 and come and go at all times of the day, as and when ... It's just the FREEDOM ‼️

Hi Mark & Sally, Just want to say that your Channel along with BytheCurb are my faves. Loved your recent trip to Switzerland etc Something I plan to do in the next 12 months or so. Both channels have inspired me to the same lifestyle which hopefully I will start early new year. I relate to wanting no bills after a very stressful divorcé lasting 5 long years. Unfortunately, I can not be totally free from the system as I have a business & premises. 54 yrs old but I’ll get there 💪🏻 Can’t wait to travel with no Sunday blues 😂😃 Will be hard for sure at first but us guys adapt well 👍 Keep up the good content. 😃👍 Ps you both are a fantastic fun loving couple. Think there are plenty of people living in a van or car, as it was the only option they could afford and it's better than living on the streets. But will not say this as it is seen as some sort of failure on their part. Which it's not. Many don't want to be reliant on benefits and poor housing provided by local councils or charity organisations. Van life is not all beautiful views and days full of delight, it can be tough. It can also be great. I guess everyone has a different idea of what freedom is. Interesting topic Mark and Sally. Take care 😊😇🥰

Both re-creating Kev and Happy Highlander and Prpject Camper have more or less HAD TO get out of their property, through eviction or relationship split up etc ... and I'm pretty sure there are many others ...

I'm vary much wanting to explore van life and to personally get my mental health in order as at mo in a bit of a hard dark place, Also not being able to work due to medical issues, I'm 50 yrs young and living off 600 a,month.

Hi Mark and Sally, Hope life is good and you are both well. In answer to your question from a weekend warrior it’s always been about escapism. In my case it was about escaping my miserable, depressing ex. Having a bolt hole to escape to kept me sane until we separated. I love the peace and quiet and the Simplicity of spending as much time as I can down in the forest. I can’t wait to be rich in time. Like yourself I don’t want lots of money just time.

after having a caravan at Hayling island where we went to for 26 years , I love the island but we was going to the same place all the time, now we have a campervan so now we are weekend warriors loving it 🥰 seeing different places, love Deb and Jim x

Finding a descent van to build out at a reasonable price is not easy as the good vans are all 14 plus years old and full of tin worm and the newer ones are designed to break down

I have a 4x4 and love sleeping in it. Note I didn't say live. Although I don't have a house etc. Love the travel, hate the rat race. Love the open road, hate the shackles. Love spending time with my dog. hate dealing with neighbours. Happy as Larry! Didn't want a van as it would annoy me living in a small space. Even though I could do it, I rather not bump my head and get annoyed. Hence why I prefer having my 4x4 where I can go anywhere! (I'm sure you can with a van also)

Hi Mark and Sally life is about doing what you like not what others want you to do.

I work six days a week and live in a van full time. It is still pretty new to me at the moment and i do find it confitable. My plan for the furture is to work less and enjoy life more. However i need to get safety net / cash pot togeather first. I was given a council flat and i waited four years for it. I stayed in this flat for 14 months and i did not enjoy the flat and isolation. I gave the flat back to the council and moved into my van. I am lucky to have good friends and family that support my new way of life.

Your tyre fitter pals obviously know nothing about rubber. "Rubber is rubber"? What a load of tosh. There are many different grades of rubber. Harder rubber equals much longer braking distances in the wet, 'fact',. That extra metre could kill someone, your advice, still, what do i know my darlings?

I like the allterain tyres on a 4x4 the high wall ones are tough unlike the standard van sizes. The reason they are dangerous in the wet is due to the compound, fine if you potter around but not so good if you throw the vehicle about. Personally I would fit them on my van on steel wheels as alloys and potholes don't mix. We camp in lots of soggy fields so they are worth having. They are crap on gravel though as the stones get stuck in the tread and ping off for miles afterwards.

Never had an issue with BFG KO2'S Mark apart from the reduced mpg, had them on 7 different vehicles now.

I use part worn... Always have ..all terrain are for off road... You would better having road tyres and having a winch fitted.. a good set of gravel boards is also a good idea..

I do 40,000 miles a year the best tyres out there are Michelin cross climate over the last 25 years I've tried every tyre there is nothing comes close👍

There’s many out there that buy a van and first thing they get is rogue alloys + off Rd tyres spending over £1000 that’s more than you spent going to France 😅 ….Budget every time I look on market place as well I had 4 really good tyres and wheels for £100

Reasons to choose chinese, part 3 😉 You only need a puncture in the sidewall or sidewall damage and a tyre is written off. Even if only a week old. 3 cheap tyres are same cost as 1 expensive, less write off cost, 3 times the distance as 1 expensive tyre. Far better value going for budget tyres and they last virtually as long as expensive ones. I have just put a new set of particular known chinese tyres on my transporter shuttle, 8 ply, semi all season (don’t confuse with semi all road / off road), good in winter as well as summer, quiet, grip well in the wet, good on the motorway, good wet stopping distance. £50 a corner. And if you’re wondering about longevity, a local large taxi firm fits them to their fleet of minibuses, transporters and other vans and have done so for a long time. The drivers noticed no difference to the ones previously fitted at twice the price or the performance and they do 20k plus miles on a set of hard stop start driving and motorway airport runs. Rip / puncture a sidewall, £100 per axle pair to replace. They ride well too. So don’t knock the chinese tyres. Try them.

As far as I know, most vans, therefore motorhomes too, are supposed to be on 8 ply tyres. Check your own van rating, because if your not to it’s spec, you void your insurance.

A/T tyres DO work. Do your research and buy road biased ones. I had a set on my Transporter and liked them so much I put the same on my new Boxer camper. And they were only £300 a set.

I’ve got some Billy No Chinese 🇨🇳 tires all round tough as old boots. .i Did the NC 500 this September with them on … never let me down with them pot holes jagged edges loose stones gravel you name it never let me down made up with them.💪🏻
