Bluenose II - Nova Scotia's Sailing Ambassador
Canada
Приєднався 19 жов 2022
It's hard to imagine that on March 26th in 1921, those present on the shore of Lunenburg knew what would come of the day's festivities. They were there to launch the Bluenose. What they set in motion was a legacy that continues to this day.
Who could have predicted that Bluenose would become the pride of Nova Scotia - an undefeated racing champion and Canadian icon? Perhaps those who built the unmatched vessel had an inkling. In time, all would come to revere the legendary Grand Banks fishing schooner.
Today, the spirit and history live on in Bluenose II. As Nova Scotia's sailing ambassador, Bluenose II is a proud representative of our province and our maritime heritage. The story continues.

Beautiful ❤❤❤
Thank you for the very good, well spoken presentation. I know it's not easy to make a good video, so well done!
Gabe , your absolutely correct. It's long overdue that the Bluenose ll journey to Hati for the final resting place of Bluenose ( Queen of the Atlantic). Hope that it doesn't fall on deaf ears . Angus Johnson SV Violet Walters.
Showing the newbies the ropes. Kneeslapper.
Classic and outstanding Nova Scotia ❤
👍👍👍🙏😻😸😺
Another good report Captain 👍 and fine filming and editing by Ms Emily ( if I remember correctly ) and not seeing the highlighter over the captions is a bonus 👏👏 looks very professional 👍🙏 . Having a Ships Cat can only bring good fortunes to the boat clever enough to find the right one 👍😸😸😺
I did see the ship in Lunenburg in NS Canada about 1 hour drive from Halifax, a great ship, and great little town to visit and have a good time.....yes and a lot of people think the same way. TH
Nice report Captain 👍 . side note for Ms Emily - really nice work on the video overall and the captioning is really good too by itself , the yellow highlighting box that goes along with the text tho is quite distracting ( almost annoying ) and you really don't need it , and you can save yourself the time of working it in for more pleasant things - like going Sailing 😽😸😺
Nicely done Evan 👍 Best regards to the rest of the Crew , from Montreal Quebec 😸😺
Delbe Comeau...Half man, half living legend! "The power of the sails and the ship...take your hands clean off" Awesome Second Mate to sail with many, many years ago.
This a great clip ,thank you posting . Being a environmentalists and the water of the Northshore ( states ) I thank you . Angus Johnson SV Violet Walters Newburyport Ma.
I love this, it is great to know as well.
Excellent vid !! Very informative.

May your cookies be chocolate chip
Thanks for sharing, it's all very interesting. I look forward to these videos. Interesting fact on painting the anchor chain. I was having a coffee and a cookie while watching, cheers
Thanks for sharing, I look forward to these videos
Hoping that you have a great sailing season and that we get to see you in Shelburne this year !

Lose the "music".
Evidence that not just anyone should produce or host a video.
This is so hilarious! A big salute to the participants.
Happy New Year Capt. Phil and to all the crew ! Hope to see you in Shelburne this year.
Well done!
I Love you, Bruce... ❤ ... Forever 🥺😥😓 Rest in Peace 🙏
Excellent tour. What is the boat with the black bow at 8:51, in the background? Thank you for keeping the schooner sailing tradition alive for posterity.
Thank you for your kind words. The vessel in the background is Theresa E Connor, the flagship of the Fisheries Museum of the Atlantic. You can learn more about her here: fisheriesmuseum.novascotia.ca/educational-resources/newsletter/theresa-e-connor

I recently visited Lunenburg. It was great weather....if you were a duck....the Bluenose 11 was docked in her spot. I talked to one of her crew...very friendly....i told her the DECK was amazing. Such hard work in keeping her ship shape but the crew was all there everyone doing their thing. . I was very proud...to be Canadian at that moment... .thank you skipper and crew of the Bluenose 11.
Thank you for your kind words, Richard!
Was in Lunenburg last year and just missed it. Beautiful. Next time.
I saw Gatineau and instanly thought of Norm Macdonald lol.
Too many masks
The mask BS should go . It's mostly a scam from the beginning .
Masks?
Yeah, all the crew on deck, OUTDOORS, drinking the Fauci Kool-Aid that those masks are gonna keep them safe from the China Flu. What a farce.@@seanwebb605
'PromoSM' 😭
Bluenose II is magnificent, a shining example of the goodness of the people of Canada. May she sail free forever!

Sailed right along on the Hudson River, July 4th, 1986. From the George Washington Bridge down to the Battery at the base of the World Trade Center. Yep ~ Right along with the Bluenose II. Pisces, a 58 foot schooner out of Portsmouth NH. Just a bunch of friends drinking beer tacking back and forth into the 15k breeze. The Bluenose ~ right along. ~ That Statue of Liberty, all shined up and refurbished. The Bluenose, ~about~ under the bridge with all sails up into the wind, back down river, a jaw dropping sight. I"ll tell ya. The fireworks in NYC that night. All the "tall ships." ~ And the Bluenose. Wow. Golden moments for me. ✨🌸🙏🌸✨. 🇺🇸. ✨🇨🇦 ✨♥♥♥
Thank you for sharing this wonderful memory with us, Steven! 💙
What is the origin of the name Bluenose
Hi Robert, Bluenose was a common nickname for Nova Scotians that dates back to the 1700s. There are several theories on the origin of the name, but the most likely is that one of the popular crops from NS were little blue potatoes that looked like noses. You can read more about the different stories here: bluenose.novascotia.ca/namesake
Agreed but just remember the Bluenose is CANADIAN and has nothing to do with "our USA".
I toured the Bluenose when she was here in Kenosha for the Sail Challenge in 2019. One of the best weekends ever!
Sailing vessels are so key to our USA, these ships brought people, goods, trading between continents, anyone who's sailed knows that sensation, it's amazing, moving along the ocean, silently with just the wind. This is great to go along with you. Thank you.
Another Bluenose II was built from the keel up in 2012. The one sailing now is not the one launched in 1963, yet it is represented as such. Why?
I sailed on her twice, first time on a harbor cruise , second time as " crew for a day", what a great experience !!
Yeah I agree with Chhindz. You had a lot of great photographs and videos and the main subjects were hidden by those huge subtitles. It detracted a lot from the enjoyment. Not leaving you a like, although I'd like to.
Did the harbour sail in 2017, a fantastic experience and well worth the doing. Like the Captain said, there is nothing like being on a sailboat of this size.
The original boat had no motor. Does the two have one?
Yes, we have twin John Deere diesels on Bluenose II. The original Bluenose had an engine installed in 1936, but it was removed during the races.
