My big Theory about Melina is that she is the Gloam Eyed Queen who was another Empyrean that Maliketh is supposed to have killed on behalf of Marika. I think her mind was erased and reconstructed to be Melina. As a fail safe in case the Tarnished became a Lord of Frenzied Flame her memories would be restored and she would regain her Empyrean status and have the ability to give destined death to that Tarnished. So she might even have a fragment of the rune of death and could come close to killing us, or even succeed

Still my favorite cutscene out of the Light and Dark Saga, all of it was perfect especially seeing how The Witness was made in an actual cutscene instead of the ink blotch cutscene from Deep. Bungie literally put in their absolute all into this expansion!!!
