    Jennifer always talks of the new Generation. How new, how political they are. And which stories of this generation are told in GenQ? There were even more destructive, drug addicted characters. And which story was new? Are these stories representative? Is that the right way to fight for equality? Is that political? I remember the original L Word as highly political and supper well packed in entertainment. And let us be honest, there is still a lot to do in society. I was very exited for the new show and it turned out wrong especially for the representation of the young generation. I am so sorry for that.

    I met Jennifer Beals for like 20 seconds. She approached me at my work and asked for something. I barely spoke as I felt like she was just trying to do her errands and be done with her day. So she wouldn't have known that I knew who she was. And she was exactly like this even in a small dose. Polite, kind of soft spoken, and hesitant. I think a lot of celebrities know how to behave when people are paying attention. But when they think they aren't, their true selves come out.

    Ilene Chaiken…I’ll watch you for the next ten years if you continue to tell stories like you have been….reach out to Leisha, Kate and Jennifer…they are such icons to the gay community…aside being amazing actors…they are intelligent and understand the world and how gay exits in this world…

  • @MGS17
    @MGS17 Рік тому

    Unfortunately the absence of Ilene is palpable….the new version is superficial, lacks the humor of the original, and just jumps around without any compelling storyline…the fact that the three OG actors are not given enough screen time together is one of the missed opportunities that is so very obvious; perhaps it is time for this to sunset…if it can’t be good…better for it to be over rather than destroy the essence of this ground-breaking show.

    My dear Jennifer - tremendous actress and lovely individual. One comment on what was said by Jennifer "This generation needs to tell their stories, because they are the one who will save us." Well if the Gen Q characters and story lines are any representation of those who are going to save us, I think we are in real trouble. Leaving the show is a good and wise decision. The story line of discovering who one is and the life they want to live and finding the right partner for the life's journey is true of every human not just queer folks. Gen Q is not a story about the LGBTQ life style. Its the story of a life which features LGBTQ characters. No story line presented is unique to the LGBTQ community. In the original The L Word, there were significant story lines which were unique to the LGBTQ community: rejection by parents by Dana, prejudice in trying to adopt a child by Bette, prejudice on the work place by Max & Tina, ability to remain in the military by Tasha and others; all because they were LGBTQ... while some of those situations are better now, they have not disappeared. Gen Q story lines have no problem because they are LGBTQ. They have problems finding the right love interest and maintaining one longer than a few episodes. Throw in a few cheating incidences and you have the Gen Q story line for every character. And from what I can see, that is the same life style which every human has regardless of sexual orientation or life label one can choose. In my opinion, Gen Q stories are not LGBTQ stories; Gen Q are human stories as lived by LGBTQ characters. Substitute an entire different sexual orientation or gender identifying characters (including straight people) and they could be in the same story lines and not skip a beat. The uniqueness of the story lines in The L Word lived by LGBTQ characters is what elevated it to being the unique show that it was. The fact that they had attractive actors who had superior talents and committed to their characters and story lines sealed it's place in television history. They told real stories... Gen Q? Not so much. I admire Jennifer and Ilene for the gallant effort to praise and support Gen Q... but in my opinion, it fails on so many different levels... and none of that is the fault of the actors or producers. Good luck to you Jennifer and to you Ilene and I hope your future project turn out to be all the you hope they can be.

  • @Tocimah
    @Tocimah Рік тому

    A nice discussion. I can't say that the storyline of having tibette was actually warranted for good television.....thus the ratings....when Bette and Tina could have been happily married at the onset of Gen Q. The Storyline of Bette seeking public office and Tina with her job away would have been more plausible and engaging (moving on from a subject that Ilene had resolved in the Original series). Some of Bette's personal challlenges could have been addressed while still happily married to Tina and the couple could have been focusing on living life together! But the GenQ quality has not changed even in the first episode of Season 3. But I thank Ilene & Jennifer for this discussion. I don't think any fan thinks a reboot wasn't warranted. But it hasn't proven good watching caliber. Maybe somone else could have brought the New Generation on the screen with engaging characters and good story writing. So, the proof is in the ratings..... As far as the Twitter reference, I think you assume everyone watching the show is in agreemment with your remarks. You do know Twitter lost a large following due to disallowing freedom of thought. And now it is thriving. So - I don't know what the point was of mentioning Twitter because you don't believe in it. Twitter wasn't okay before Elon came in. You thought it was because it was going the way you wanted it to. You want to talk about being inclusive as Liberals but only if everyone agrees with you.....then go do what the Conservatives had to do...migrate to like minded platforms. BUT that defeats the claim of Liberalism stating it includes everyone!
