I've been sewing since I was 5 years old. My mother bought me my first machine, an antique hand powered Vesta - great during power cuts - and I still have it to this day. It's amazing how technology has changed and how lucky we are to have the machines of today.
I enjoy learning new techniques, and it's exciting when you discover a tip, trick or product that gives your garment that sought-after professional finish.
Slow fashion is becoming more popular, hence my sewn clothes are less likely to end up in landfill - instead passed on to friends and family because of the time involved and quality of the fabric. My handmade wardrobe is curated to my style, colour and fit. I found that I have always been searching for a garment that doesn't exist!

Join Me For A Sunday Sew-along With The Madrid Tote! #Seamwork
Переглядів 1473 місяці тому
Sew along of how I sewed together the Madrid tote by #Seamwork. I used leather for the bottom and a cotton duck for the top of the bag. I used a bright red spotted cotton fabric for the lining. I got my handles and hardware from Temu. It was a bit of a challenge to sew with leather, but the bag turned out how I wanted it too. I really love the colour combinations, so bright and happy! Enjoy! li...
Get Stitchin' With Sunday Sews: Sew Along With The Hansie Woven Tee
Переглядів 2323 місяці тому
Sew with me Sunday using the free Hansie woven tee pattern #seamwork I made mine in a chiffon style fabric, which was challenging! I suggest a woven such as a cotton. I did a neck binding instead of the facing because I did not want the facing to show through the fabric. I decided to omit the pocket, but will definitely consider it next time! www.seamwork.com/catalog/hansie Make your own bias b...

Smitten Cropped Jacket by Pattern Emporium #fridaysews
Fabulous fabric haul, you will be busy! I love those blues.
Thanks can't wait to get started on some of them!
Love your makes, Especially your blue blouse with the yellow silk ruffle combined with the denim skirt! 👍
Hi, your plans look amazing and I love your choice of fabric for each pattern. The outfit you are wearing suits you so well - particularly the cream blouse. Happy sewing. 🌸
Perfect mix and match summer wardrobe. ❤
Love it ! I have just bought this pattern and the Baker dress on the .Seamwork Black Friday half price special. After seeing this I cannot wait to make the Emmie.
Fun plans! I love your fabrics! 😊
Hi I made the size that fitted my measurements for my bust. I checked the hip and decided to increase by about 1.5” and because it was a woven pattern. (No stretch) Another tip is to get one of your existing woven tops that fit and compare against the pattern. I usually use the layer option when printing and choose 2 sizes that are close to my measurements and grade accordingly. I hope this helps! ❤
Did you make your "regular" size? My measurements are right between 2 sizes & trying to decide to go up or down.
Great job
Such a lovely selection of makes. It is so satisfying creating your own wardrobe with shapes and colours that you choose yourself. I have a few of those patterns, but some are yet to be printed off and sewn up. I do find that Pattern Emporium, Love Notions and Itch to Stitch are great value and seem to suit me when I make them.
Hi Fiona, you have been busy! You've got yourself just about a whole season's worth of new makes there. I really need to make the Smitten, I've had it in my mind to since it came out. I really loved the fabric of your second skirt with the birds on it, so cute. And the white Seamwork top, the one with the cotton lace on it, was super nice, I loved it ❤.
Thank you! I hope you've settled into Christchurch and getting back into your sewing. The Smitten is a easy pattern, but I think I'd make it a little bit longer if I make it again. 🙂
The Dara looks lovely on you, the best of a lovely bunch! I also like the topper by itch to stitch, I’ve had the pattern ages but not made it up yet. ..I will now I’ve seen it on you. I’ve been thinking of joining seam work, the annual choice. Do you think it’s worth it?
I have enjoyed Seamwork. There are so many patterns, resources and courses you can do. They do offer discounts from time to time. Check out their channel. On one of their latest vlogs they were promoting 'design your wardrobe for winter' and had a discount to join up.
I love videos like this because they're such a nice reminder that, even if a project doesn't come together perfectly, they oftentimes still turn out totally wearable and looking great. The blouse looks so lovely and comfy, and I don't think anyone would see it and assume it *wasn't* professionally made!
Thank you! We're always perfectionists on our projects, but ready to wear clothing are not always quality. We also learn from our mistakes too!
Billie sweatshirt is a great pattern, I love the fit on me, will be next winters go to pattern. 🇦🇺
Thanks for the feedback on the Billie.... Will give it a go soon!
Thanks Sharon. I definitely need to sew an easier fabric for my next make!
Thanks for the tutorial. You made a neat job of the binding on the neck especially with that fabric and the bias binding on the hem was a good call. A very neat finish. The blouse looks lovely on you. Happy sewing
Thank you! This was one of the reasons I started my channel. We’re opposite seasons to the northern hemisphere, so I enjoy finding Australian and NZ vloggers.
The dress looks lovely .New subscriber here (from Dunedin)Looking forward to going back to see your previous vlogs. It’s great to find a kiwi vlogger.
I think your restyled Benning dress looks great on you now. I purchased the Frankie polo shirt when it was released but haven't made it yet. It looks like a useful garment to have in the wardrobe. I'm trying to sew more everyday items rather than dresses, which I always enjoy making but only wear occasionally.
Thanks Sharon… I agree I think plain tops are better and I need to think before I buy patterned fabric! Unless it’s for a bottom or dress. I’ve ordered some plain fabric online from Drapers. They’re opening a shop in Wellington and 30% off online or in store this weekend. The Frankie top is $5 till today I think! Enjoy your sewing!
What a great transformation of your dress it looks really nice now. I love your new phone it's very cute. Your top turned out great and will be really useful in your wardrobe. I have a lot of patterned tops and find they can be difficult to wear them with some clothes as the patterns can clash. I will have to make some plain tops so I can wear them with patterned bottoms. I see some more sewing ahead of me. Have a lovely long weekend. Happy sewing.
Hi Samara the ‘imperial’ just means it’s the inch measurements. Check your bust measurement against the sizing. I made a 16 from the sizing chart. It is confusing but most patterns have body measurements, so use them rather than the size. 😊
Thanks for doing a video on this! Im just starting to sew, and its super helpful to see these kinds of videos. Can I ask with this pattern it says its in Imperial so converting to Metric for Aussie sizes is usually 2 different? ie if I wanted to sew an AU18, Id select the size 14 in this pattern pack?
Skirt is a great pattern. it would look lovely in lots of fabrics. ❤
Hi Fiona. Thanks for the lovely sew along. It looks easy when you do it. The silk blouse looks lovely. I hope you have more time in the sewing room during the school holidays. I will have less as I have grandkids but I treasure that that they still want to stay with us. I can sew lots when they are home again. Happy sewing😊
Thank you! You too! I've been out of action with my shoulder, but hopefully can get back into some summer sewing soon! I hope the grandkids enjoyed their stay and the weather was fine.
Thanks for the info on the Threadloop app.
Thanks Kathy. They’re addictive once you’ve made one!😊
Nice job on all the makes.
Love seeing all of your cute makes
Very flattering top. It’s on my fall makes list
A wonderful sewing space
Loved this sew along. I will be doing. Beautiful pillow. Beautiful fabric.
Love my Oliso iron and it is a game changer. Loved seeing all of your makes and it’s inspiring me to get out my Seychelles pattern .
I went to check out the thread loop app, but apparently it's not available in the U.S. Guess I will just stick with Trello, it works pretty well for me. Lovely makes, thank you for sharing!
Good to know! Thanks!

Thanks Julie! I did a little of cutting out yesterday, so ready to sew! Yes tan handles it is!
Hi, your plans look amazing and the bright colours certainly suit you. Your new seamwork blouse is gorgeous- I have downloaded that pattern and look forward to making it in the future. In respect to the bag you are planning - I rather like the tan handle. Happy sewing🌸
unreal ! sleep well! Nz.
❤❤❤❤❤beautiful
All your blazers are awesome! Karina from Lifting Pins and Needles will give you good tips.
Sit and sew on Sunday sounds fun!
Thanks Julie it’s good to try something different!
Hi, you were so correct about teaming up the red pants with a leopard print. This looks stunning. I made myself a pair of red pants a few years ago and binned them as I couldn’t match them with anything in my wardrobe. Your wardrobe planning course looks like it will be a lot of fun and I am so impressed with the folder you set up. I hope your ankle heals up quickly. 🌸
love your metro blazer - inspiring me to revisit the pattern!
Thanks I can count the times I’ve made it. Fantastic pattern!
Hi Fiona. What a great find in the op shop. I am looking forward to seeing what you make with the beautiful silk fabric, especially the yellow piece. Happy sewing
Thank you. I’m looking at patterns that may work. I’d like to include the border in too!
