I'd still take the 318 or the slant 6 over the 360. They just don't handle the rpm. But do run nice if you don't beat them.

Ok..The only way to check a timing chain and sprockets is to take timing cover off for inspection..Please use 1/2 inch socket set on crankshaft bolt.....

Redseal certified shade tree guy here. I have to agree that the correct tool for the job would be a socket. The rusty channel locks worked pretty well to check the play in the chain without the belt pully on? I guess you know a better way to check a timing chain. If you do, leave it in a comment. You definitely can replace a timing chain or belt with the engine in the vehicle. Yes, a timing belt and a timing chain are the same thing. Some engines gave belts, and others have chains. Some heavy-duty engines just have gears. I am a HD Cummins Diesel engine technician and they all have gears. I removed this engine because I wanted to replace the pistion rings and reseal the engine. Also, to paint firewall, frame, and engine block. I will post videos on the rebuild of the 360 engine and the 1986 ramcharger. Thank you for your comment.
Back in the day, that's exactly how a local shop identified that my car had a bad timing chain.
I've seen people scrap or sell good vehicles for cheap because they couldn't figure out the timing chain was worn.

Yes. If you jump the power to the starter motor, it will just turn over and not engage the flywheel to start the engine. Just like if you flick a lighter and not press the button to open the fluid valve, then the lighter won't light. That is a good analogy. The power needs to be jumped to the s-terminal, and the lighter needs to be pressed to light.
Was someone turning the key when you used the wire when it started for you?
@Baked804 if the key is in the on position and you jump power to the solenoid and the starter turns over and engages the flywheel, then the engine can start.

That is way easier than removing everything to check it.
Definitely alot easier. You can tell if there's play to investigate or if it's not an issue.

Where is careless as it was for the guy to stop for that small animal that motorcycle rider was stupid he was another line and get behind the car was slowing down when he could have got back over the other line pretty quick I do believe they teach motorcycle riders how to make tight little turns and stuff play possibly did that on purpose to try to claim insurance I don't know though
