Rio Grande Rim

This trail begins at the Rio Grande rest stop, on hi way 64, just a few miles west of Taos New Mexico. I'm not sure how far I walked, but it was around 1 to 2 miles, or maybe 10 miles. #nomadicmadman #hiking #riogrande #newmexico

Maverick Trail
Переглядів 32Місяць тому
On this day I followed Maverick Trail (I think) and hung a left onto Black Jack Trail. It climbs a little in elevation, but it is an easy hike. #nomadicmadman #cimarron #canyon #maverick #trail #newmexico

Palisades Sill
Переглядів 56Місяць тому
New Mexico has a very diverse landscape and the Palisades Sill is a good example of this. These cliffs have been carved out of the igneous rock for millions of years. Cimarron Canyon lies between Eagle Nest and Cimarron Villages on hi-way 64 and is full of wildlife and beautiful views. #nomadicmadman #newmexico #cimarron #eaglenest #palisadessill

I recently stopped in Cortez Colorado and watched this flag wave for a few minutes. The sound of the flag waving made me proud and reminded me that freedom is not free. #nomadicmadman #americathebeautiful #flag

Lovesick Blues
Переглядів 233 місяці тому
Lovesick Blues was made popular by Hank Williams. It was either on the radio a lot in the 60's and 70's, or my father had the album and played it a lot. Before the age of 8, I have known most of the lyrics. LOL. #nomadicmadman #hankwilliams #lovesickblues #music #countrywestern
Sunshine Disaster
Переглядів 333 місяці тому
On Tuesday, May 2, 1972, at about 11:40 a.m., a fire broke out at the Sunshine Mine in Kellogg, Idaho. Smoke and carbon monoxide quickly filled the area in which the majority of the 173 miners were working. At 12:03 p.m., an evacuation was ordered after mine managers were unable to pinpoint the location of the fire. Ninety-one men perished due to carbon monoxide exposure, 80 escaped, and only t...
How much smoke does this put out of the chimney
I would say it is not very much; but, this winter I will take a closer look.
Semoga orang yg pelihara kucing mendapatkan rejeki yg banyak dari tuhan
Would like to go up again, spend more time exploring around.
😂
And go gold mining get that gold😊
Oops, I commented too fast. I dislike seeing trash in the high desert.
Eric, it’s good to see you do what you like doing. Stay cool my friend.
@@oklarry6056 thank Larry
Nice
😂You don't need the voice enhancements...but funny anyway!
yeah, it's an interesting time in history. Got to laugh a little.
Better fill up your gas tank, cause you can’t get any there!
@nomadicmadman, do you (or anyone) know if FF said one time that to far too walk is about 10 miles?
I never heard Forrest say the distance for that clue. However, in one of the interviews he said there was an obvious hint in the Preface of "too far to walk". In the preface he told the story of walking down a river, I think the Madison river, but near West Yellowstone. In that story he did say he walked about 10 miles. He wanted to go back, but at his age it was too far to walk.
@@nomadicmadman8768 thanks, yes that was it......10 miles
∆ & ® ! 🙏😊!!
My kind of ATLANTA!🤣🤣
The rest stop is fairly new. The restaurant has been there for ages. Good food. Cozy surroundings.
Helper is really a railroad town, not a coal mining town. The railroad was the center for all the surrounding mines but there are no coal mines in Helper.
If you're not dressed like a cowboy or cowgirl, you're out of uniform, pardner.
Love this Country,,,,,wide open spaces,,,,,amazing views...thank U...
Do you ever come across snakes?
In this areaI have only seen 1 snake, a green snake. No rattlesnakes.
The poem has 171 words. Where you are standing is exactly 171 miles to Forrest's home if you take the Old Santa Fe Trail way😊
Pretty area…. Nice walk. Not good to be under trees if lightning ⚡️ 😊
I sware that tree I've seen before against thy grainey shore...can't wait for the visit to the big boy tour... thanks nomad!
Just walkin' in the rain, in the wood, facing the cold 🙂
Have a blast!
You are in my neck of the the woods ! Be safe out there Nomad
I try to be safe. Someday we will have to have a meet up...

You captured the beauty of this little town so well
It’s great if your a racist white Karen. Idaho is a amazingly ignorant place
Neat place. We hunt just outside of there. Really good hunting country and super people too.
Hows that quad holding up thinking of getting the outfitter 2
It's still running strong for 2 winters. I won't be getting any upgrade soon. Thanks.
@@nomadicmadman8768 nice! Thanks for the reply 👍
I love this song
Thanks @geoduck, much appreciated.
I was creating the song while Forrest was alive...and then he died. It kind of just happened.
love it
Baker is far left liberals town
My Great Great Grandad founded the first town in Valley County Idaho in 1883, Van Wyck. We have a family gravesite Crown Point Cemetery right next to Lake Cascade.
Thank you for the vid and the great memories! I moved to Atlanta at 16 years old in 1948 while Atlanta was in its heyday of activity. My parents ran the only gas station, along with a restaurant and bar named The Bank Club, directly across the road from The Hub, another restaurant and bar with pool tables. Two mines worked around the clock pulling out rich gold ore 7 days a week. we had around 200 families living in Atlanta in those fun days. Any old-timers still around from those days? Love to hear from you right here! thank you for indulging an old man!
Thanks for watching. I'm not sure if there are any old timers...but it is a wonderful place.
Where's your sheep and a few goat? And big dogs. MadMax.
Always good to go on a hike with you madman….love the quiet
Baker is a retirement town. Most young people fled the place to find jobs cuz there's not many there. That's why I joined the army.
For young people unless they're into sports is a bad bad place to grow up . Nothing to do except drive your car up and down the main streets. Hope that'll band would come to the armory for what the hell for dances.
Baker has changed a lot yet there's still a lot of stuff from when I was a child. I was born in 1945 and I left there when I joined the army when I was 18 in 1963..
Cool rock, it looks like a closed hand?
I grew up relatively near there, and would go to summer camp near Anderson Ranch Reservoir when I was a kid. I spent a lot of time in the area, Pine, Featherville, etc. Fun fact, the water level in Anderson used to be a lot higher until I swallowed a ton of it trying to water ski…
Thanks for sharing
Very relaxing….good music
not like Phoenix traffic.
I passed thru Atlanta, about 50 years ago, while on a Boy Scout camping trip.
Always heartwarming to see another steamer not being forgotten! Not going lie though, if it wasn't for the video I would never have known she was one of the locomotives that participated in one of my all-time favorite train movies, Last of the Giants.
cool, I will look for the movie. thanks.
The bar that's in the middle of the cow catcher that was used for double heading and their top speed was about 35 mph the reason being is because their brakes weren't the best if they had any breaks at all... This is why they had brakemen... They also didn't have a couplers back in those days they had link and pin it was the brakemen's responsibility to couple the train... It was said back in those days if you were missing a couple of fingers you were a good brakeman a lot of brave men were killed back in those days trying to couple cars
