I stayed on this family-run farm in North Sumatra 🇮🇩
It's amazing what accommodation options you'll find in rural parts of Sumatra. This homestay was located on a beautiful family-run farm just outside of Berastagi, and the room was as modern and clean as can be.

Despite Medan's reputation as one of Indonesia's least attractive cities, I encountered so many of the friendliest locals on my walk through the city in the afternoon heat and sun.

Ah, wonderful Egypt. Go there every year, somtimes twice a year. Its great even me as a German can hardly adapt to the hot climate. People in general are very friendly.
Common Sense elongates your life-span.
Im just mumbling to meself, they had to see and smell a Cherry Boy coming for miles lol. No worries mate, we all been there, done that! Grain from Ukraine, imagine that! Best time of my life travelling solo all over the Philippines, but I had visited many times, and lived there once before doing so, and I could speak the lingo, eventhough most speak English there as a second language, it was always nice to listen and comprehend what they was talking about in their own lingo. There actually was a kidnap for ransoms and some beheadings of tourists when I actually lived there so am still a bit overly cautious. Don’t ever let your guard down, esp solo in another country mate!😊✌🏻🍻
Lived in Valencia for 2 years. (U.S. Peace Corps.) The town Plaza rocks, but you really should have checked out Cassarroro Falls.
I'm from Sumatra, and yes, I do not recommend taking the Bus here. For intercity travel, the best method is to hire a travel agency. You can rent an entire SUV + driver for about 50 USD. It can be cheaper, depending on where you are and where you want to go. Thanks for visiting, man! Hope you enjoy your stay.
Don't be rude and touch the glass.
Dang! Not a pile of puke. That's rough cuz.
I hope you don't get it wrong, in Medan City there are still many people on the street who are amazed when they see foreigners, especially westerners, some of them think that greeting foreigners will be strange. And some still do, we are not discussing backwardness, but this is another face of Indonesian people, friendly and Welcome
Your video is informative. informal and humourous. Excellently done. Budget travel is exactly what I am fond of. We are two senior citizens from India planning to visit Egypt in mid-April 2025. I noted down the hotel name you mentioned : 2 JANA PYRAMIDS. Would be grateful if you can share their phone number and address. Will be very difficult to go around looking for it. Also, name, phone number and address of the hotel you stayed in downtown Cairo - Tahrir square. Now I am going to look up all your travel videos. I am sure to find a world of information. Regards and love from India.
hey Ben nice vid
I would like to do what you did but unfortunately wild camping is not allowed in Seoraksan.
before crushing the public vehicle you have to ask the fare first to the locals, so you don't be lied to by the driver
When you said Universitas Sumetra Utara ,the other drivers were saying the same but using short form "USU". I guess there was small misunderstanding. Indonesian people tend to use short form for almost everything, even writing text messages ,they have restricted the words into fewer alphabets.
Good luck bro
Very interesting video. I've liked and subbed so as I can find you again.
Wow 🙂☝
hope you are safe ben, it seem scary mostly in our country. Camp in safe area. Hahaha. Very Inspiring content, I would love to go backpacking too . BTW. Im filipino.
Why not ignore them like everybody,,, you just like to record them ..pretendig to get scammed. . . 🤮🤢🤢🤢
You really showed the frustration that one would have to face as you arrive in Sri Lanka. A Real eye opener. Sad how the airport has still not taken any action to solve this transport issue.
Do you need a visa to cros the border?
I didn't need one at that time, but I'm not sure if that might have changed
Hey Ben, how many days did you get when you reentered Thailand? I am a US citizen and hoping for 60 days when I do the visa run. Thanks Go video.
Yup right now they're giving 60 days without questions to Western passports

Ok thanks for the info. Looks like I will follow in your footsteps but luckily have friends near Nang Khai. Thanks for sharing your adventure.
My pleasure Rob! Glad you enjoyed it. Enjoy your journey to Nong Khai. I'm back in that same region at this very moment
So I perhaps missed something. Why did you have to go into the main city? Could you not have just gone back thru immigration and crossed back in? Or was there some office you had to visit and stay the night? Thanks.
Nope didn't need to go into Vientiane, I just wanted to make the trip more worthwhile. I could have just turned around at immigration and immediately re-entered Thailand.

Is it now?? I didn't try enough to find out 😅
About 20 years ago, while at a hostel in Singapore, I met a bunch of Europeans that were going from there to Bali. At the time, Bush was telling the world that Indonesians were out to kill Americans. State Dept. issued travel warnings about Indo. I asked the kids going to Bali if they were afraid. They were from Germany and Belgium. Of course, they said no. So I asked if I could tag along (thinking the "killers" wouldn't spot me as an American and I'd be safe). 😛 Off we went. Guy from Germany determines we go on that ferry to Batam. A ferry that sat really low in the water. We got off and there were only a handful of buildings in the "downtown" and we were going to the airport anyway to fly to Jakarta. The plane cancelled and the next flight was hours away, so I got a taxi back into the town. I didn't aske, but the driver insisted he'd wait for me. After "shopping" I came out and he was still there, so I asked if he'd take me back to the airport. He drove on quite a different path than we came. He spoke little English and I didn't know any Indonesian. He was a little guy and nice enough, but I still felt like I was being kidnapped to be robbed or something. All of sudden, we were at his house that was part of mass sort of encampment of attached housing made of concrete walls. He goes in to get his wife and son. His wife walks to the door. She has her face covered in Cold Cream and he invites me in. The whole idea of it was that I was the only American he'd ever seen and he wanted to show me to his family. It was great! After about a half hour there with his wife and son, he takes me back to the airport. Fear and fun in Batam! And I never would have even thought to go there without the opportunity to tag along on the trek across Java to Bali... I look forward to seeing your stuff from Sumatra. To see what has become of Banda Aceh since the tsunami.
Thanks so much for sharing that story Mike. That's inspiring. Glad you got to meet a cool group of travelers, and some even nicer locals. I'm sure it was an eye-opening experience for you and them alike. That is what travel is all about.

Shoe size appartment as usual in Thailand for new construction.
Small apartment but how about those common areas!!
@ yes common areas are amazing !!!!
good condo i went to see some apartments....just too much wind on the pool , little bit disturbing
I'd love to see more properties as well! I found there was almost no wind by the pool actually
Oh my Buddha, you are speaking like you have been living in a tent all your life. You behave like a little boy, that never have been in a good condo building or an obscure hotel 🙈
Bad filming spoilt the video …
My bad bro... any tips?
One thing i can't get used to in Thailand and also the Philippines is that some people just look at their phone during conversations. I notice it every time
Ah yeah I try to be conscious of that when talking to someone
Similar to Da Nang with the construction, but until it gets all built up, pretty nice! Any idea of what utilities cost for one unit per month? Electric, Internet, Water & Gas?
Unfortunately I did not get all those details, sorry!
