That's because you hit it in the side, where its armour is weakest, same thing would happen with any other tank as they were all designed to engage from the front. Those players were being "irresponsible" ( To call it something) by driving in an open area showing their left flank. Those tanks were designed to snipe from far away and german tanks were the best at it.
80mm of flat side armor still aint no joke , thats more armor than a lot of tanks got in their front of this era. Certain models of the T-34 had zero chance of penetrating the sides with the early russian 76s unless within 50 yards
